  • Welcome back to The Green Yard! I can't believe it's already been 2.5 years since my dad and I planted our Fruit Punch Mango Tree! You can watch the planting video here, • Planting a Fruit Punch... . This tree has done so well in the side yard of The Green Yard. I have been focusing on pruning these mango trees to have a better shape. This is by far our biggest and healthiest Mango tree. It has flowered and fruited both 2022 and 2023 but has yet to hold onto the fruit. I'm hoping this is the year I finally get to try some Fruit Punch Mangos. I attribute a lot of this trees success to the heavy mulching and monthly fish emulsion it receives. I have also found that Mango trees here in Phoenix seem to enjoy our summer sun. They definitely want to grow into full sun and this tree gets summer sun until 2:30 to 3pm and has done amazing. If you want to learn more about growing Mango trees in Phoenix make sure to subscribe. No plans to frost or cold protect your Mango trees? Looks like we could get some pretty cold nights in the next few weeks here in the Phoenix area.
Best wishes to you and your family.

Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! No plans for frost or cold protection on my mangos this year. I just released a video about our trees after this past week and the multiple hard frosts we got in The Green Yard. The mango trees actually did great, which is awesome. I have a Carrie Mango that I stopped covering last year and it did very well and saw 28 degrees multiple times. We will see how the rest of the winter plays out but I'm hoping for good things.

Great video! Can't wait for another update on your mango trees! I have a Manila mango seedling that was the same size (tiny 3 gallon stick with a few leaves on it haha) as your fruit punch mango when I planted it last year. Though it is almost 4 feet tall is still mostly one branch/trunk. The good news is it just split into 2 branches. Should I leave it alone and let it grow the way it wants?

Hello @joshuab8255, thank you for watching and commenting! I really appreciate all your kind words! That is great that it split into two branches now. I made a mistake with my first mango (Carrie Mango), and did not prune it consistently so it has flopped over. This Fruit Punch Mango has a much better shape to it than that Mango. If it were my tree I would leave it alone unless it starts to seem consistently unhealthy. I will also be putting out an update video soon where I harvest my first Fruit Punch Mango!!! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello @joshuab8255, thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate all your kind words! I am actually going to put out a update video harvesting our first Fruit Punch Mango next week so stay tuned for that. I had a similar issue to what you're experiencing with my Carrie Mango tree. I did not practice proper pruning on this tree and it has essentially bent over and is growing as more of a ground mango now. I have been thinking about maybe doing a big prune to see if I can get it to reset and start growing a little more upright. I'm glad to hear that yours has now spit into two branches. Hopefully that will continue so it can get a good foundational structure. I would leave it alone for now but make sure to start trimming. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.

2:13 What is the space between mango tree and boundary wall in your side yard. I also have space similar to you.
    Nice video. Keep doing updates.

Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! The tree is about 2.5 feet away from the wall. I've found that they actually do pretty well that close to the wall if they receive proper watering and mulch. I appreciate your kind comments, please let me know if you have any other questions.
