hey Reggie, if you ever cant get a timer and its a nice machine, you can gently pry those contact sweep arms out and repair them. what you do is braze a new pad onto it with high content silver solder. Then take a jewelers file and shape them how you like. The reason these timer contacts burn so soon, and frequently is because they dont have a good coating on the contact point, high quality contacts are coated with silver solder., once the thin layer of silver burns off, they will burn again in no time at all.
when we would find contactors burned on a/c units, we used to try filing the contacts flat, but they never lasted. we would get called back in a few days or weeks, and the contacts would be welded together,, this junk made nowdays just isnt manufactured to last. plastic stems on the timer, plastic sleeves on the knobs, just junk.
also the windings in the dryer motors are not solid copper anymore, they are copper coated aluminum, which draws more amperage and heat.
I picked up a whirlpool with the same timer a few days ago, the belt was broke, but the timer is very stiff to turn,,, is this normal for these timers? its not the cam mechanism or levers that are tight, when I put the little motor in the timer, then it becomes hard to turn.
first time ive messed with one of these particular timers.. I dont want to go thru the trouble of restoring the contact points and then the plastic shaft stem snap off after I sell it.
I usually give a 30 day warranty, but these things just have me leary abt selling it, then the customers comes back, and I either give them thier money back, or have to buy a 135.oo timer. I can probably only get 125.00 for the dryer. ha

I spent hrs. looking for the color order of the triger wheels had to replace the broken knob peg unit and bumped my stack by accident, finally a clear picture and working great thank you very much for being detailed. Usually I just clean and carefully bend point a hair never seen on on this type timer but Maytag I have seen a few. Thank you very much you made me a buck today.

What causes a burned out element? Before mine stopped getting hot it wouldnt go off on its on and i checked the element and it was burned out. I purchased a heating element and thermal fuse kit and replaced all those parts and still no heat. Hmmm... I'm about to check the timer and see... It may be burned out too... I'll get back to you.

I find that to be a common problem with those timers. Do you know of any place that sells those timer contacts separately froM the timer?

Sounds like your heating element broke and the coil has come into contact with the element's housing.

@@carfran53 ... If the heating element is not shorted to ground, I would check the heat related contacts on the timer to make sure they are disengaging when the timer is in the OFF position.
The heat related contacts on your timer are terminals A and B.
There should be no continuity between those 2 terminals when the dryer is off.
