This tutorial saved me a ton of time and money. I ordered a replacement parts kit for $65. Arrived next day. Took me just over an hour to disassemble, clean out, swap the broken parts and put back together. The dryer is running better than ever and I’m a much less stressed mama. Moving mountains…of laundry! Thanks for this!
Absolutely fantastic! It seems like every appliance in our house broke the same week so while my husband was busy fixing three other things, I tackled the dryer. I could not have done it without your tutorial. Thank you so much for posting!
Thank you, this is very helpful. I am having a different problem with the Maytag 3000 dryer right now but this video is very help full. I will be replacing these parts on my 10 year old dryer as well. Thank you
I have the 5000 series and it is exactly the same. You helped me immensely. I replaced the thermal cutoff kit a year ago and my heating element looked like yours. Dryer worked. Now my element looks like a volcano. I should have replaced everything a year ago and saved time. Thanks for the great video and knowledge.
@@gymfun948 There is a screw in the front holding it in place and the two connections on the side. If its never been removed then it is probably just factory tight. Should be able to jiggle it loose.
Erik, I have the 5000-series as well. When your heating element went out, did your dampness indicator panel keep showing "Dry" prior to replacing the element?
Thank you, sir. Not sure of the model number, but we have a 3000 series dryer that quit on Friday. Same exact problem statement as with yours. Ours lasted 12 years before the first failure. Pulled the heating element just like you described and found the exact same thing with ours. Local appliance parts house had one in stock, so I had it up and running on Saturday. Probably pair more than you did, but minimized the down time.
I have a maytag 3000 dryer ...bought a cheap heating element on ebay for 20 dollars or so .. didn't last long ..I'm going with the genuine part this time even if it costs more
This is identical to mine, so this video is exactly what I needed. I just changed out the thermal fuse this evening and that didn't do it, so on to what you did here. I gotta order the parts, but I live in Arizona, so maybe the shorter trip means it won't arrive bent up. 😅
thanks, mine had a lip on the far end of the heater tube, needed to pull back and lift it a bit. had I ordered the correct element, would have been a great fix... now I wait for correct one.... still saved a service call!
This is a great video that you provided. However when I watched other dryer repairman test the thermostat and heating element they make it look so much more easier than you did. They just basically test for continuity and that will show them exactly what failed instead of taking everything apart like you did and you made it seem so complicated. I understand that you’re trying to rebuild the whole entire heating assembly. What you did is like changing the tires on your car when the tires still have threading and is still good. You should’ve just change the fuse that blew and keep using that heating element that still works to preserve the new one that you ordered. You can be used at a later time.
No you are wrong. A visual inspection should be done first. Then if nothing is found then do a resistance test. The wire burned up because to much resistance in either the connection or the element. If you watched the whole video I explained why I replaced everything, but I will tell you again. The plate that holds the element was cracked and warped. It will eventually touch the element, short it out and brake the element. I figure the elements only last about 5 years because I replaced the original one after 5 years. Now another 5 years have passed and it starting to do the same thing. Warping and cracking. This time I replaced everything because I only replaced the element last time. In your statement you say to replace the fuse. The fuse was not bad , The wire had burned up.
Changing out the items you had and cleaning the dryer made the most sense to me. Why not replace the items since you had it apart. The part cost is reasonable and cheaper than a new dryer. Clearly the heating element needed to be replaced with the warping and cracking. Also, I feel like the way you showed what you did allowed viewers to see the lint that collects so they can see it needs to be cleaned out to avoid a fire. Thank you for sharing this content. As a single woman on a limited budget I feel like I will be able to repair the dryer on my own. You are appreciated.
I want to thank you so much, it worked. Took me way to long to take apart and put together but we finally have heat. Amd this mom of 6 can do laundry. I am noticing this squeaking noise now and am worried? Do you think it could be a screw loose, that I didn't tighten all the way? Now that I listen more, maybe a scrapping? It's constant though. I guess I'm not sure what else it could be? Thank you again.
Nice Job again! .... You are now officially known as "The Maytag Repairman." I'm surprised the heating system of the MAYTAG needs so much maintenance, Do you think the burned wire was caused by failure of the fuse to open in the circuit? I need some help! I put in the new heating element, thermostat and fuse but I can't figure out how to put the filter housing cover back on. Mine is a 5000 series but it looks exactly like this one when opened up. I took off the filter fan housing cover off to clean up the lint (just like in the video, it was a good thing to clean that mess up!) However, I'm having trouble getting the housing cover back on due to the long flat bent metal piece that goes through the back of the housing cover to the inside. Which was does it go? How did you reinstall it? At 2:28 in the video it is the piece that you say "I don't know why that's loose". And then when the Drier is reassembled, at 16:14 you say "I didn't need to pull this off" the housing is back on. I need to know how you reinstalled it!
Great tutorial! I just discovered this issue with my Maytag 3000 series last night. After watching your video, I feel pretty confident about doing the work myself. Could you post a link to where you purchased the heating element replacement kit? Thanks!

Thanks for the video! My element had a clip in the back that took a bit of extra pulling to get past. I replaced all the parts that came in the package from Amazon. Why not, right?

Great video...just curious, what steps would I do if the start button stoped working? In other words, it only starts the dryer if it is pushed in with force. My wife has noticed the button pulling back into the machine when the button is pressed “hard” to force start it as if it will break or become unusable... would you know the cause of this problem? This is fhe exact dryer I have. I got an error code f1. So I got a thermal fuse. Still doesn't work. It powers on and whrn I push the start button it just clicks inside. Any ideas!? I'm at my wits end.
This is what I found on the internet. The F01 indicates a failed electronic machine control board. This error code can sometimes be caused by a glitch or power surge through the electrical lines. You may be able to clear this code by unplugging the washer for 5 minutes.
So, I got all the way to pulling the heater out. It won’t come out. I am tugging (while trying not to get sliced up by metal) and it won’t come. Any suggestions?
@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore , thank you. There are no screws. After I removed the screws in front, the front is not connected to anything.
