How To Fix A Dryer Heater DIY style
Is your dryer not getting hot? Here is the most common fix. If you don't own a dryer vent cleaning kit, and you don't clean out your dryer vent tube every year, you are asking for a clog, and possibly a house fire. The "dryer not getting hot" problem will manifest itself in your dryer not drying your wet clothes. Maybe you'll notice the dryer not getting hot. Even if you got your dryer vent cleaning tools, and quickly learn how to clean a dryer vent, it might already be too late with no dryer heating, chances are your dryer heating element needs to be replaced now to solve your dryer not heating problem otherwise no amount of dryer vent cleaning will help you now, although you still need to clean the dryer vent tubes, and vacuum all the lint out from inside the clothes dryer, which accumulates throughout the year.
dryer not heating Samsung
Now of course this is a Samsung dryer, and although the taking apart of the dryer might be different than other brands, they all essentially pull apart similarly, and once you get inside, the procedure and location of the dryer heating element are the same across most brands, as is the testing methods, only the part number of the heating element changes.
If you have a dryer not heating up, the most common cause is the dryer heating element has gotten so overheated that the coil broke, and now you have an open circuit. Now you have an expensive dryer repair on your hands, and you must replace the broken dryer heating element. So if your dryer is not working, this video shows you how to replace the dryer heating element and get you back up and running and drying clothes again. Be sure to use the dryer vent cleaning tools in this video.
dryer heater element test and replacement
This video also shows you how to perform a dryer heater element test, as well as testing the thermistor and thermostat which measure the heat coming off the dryer heater element. If you have the dryer not drying clothes situation, you need to pull out the dryer heater element for the test, that's the only way to test and repair the dryer heater.
Samsung dryer not drying
These Samsung DV42H5200 series dryers are quite a bit of tedious work to get at the heating element. Once you extract the heating element from the dryer, now you have to remove 9 screws and twist 4 tabs to open up the heater element housing.
Once you DIY install your new dryer heating element, you will not have a dryer not drying well anymore. Just be sure to clean those dryer ducts and dryer vents at the same time.

Any good deals you know about?
I haven't had time to look.
We have a samsung and have replaced the heating element twice in a month then found some sensors that aren’t all on the element were bad so we replaced them. We snaked the dryer vents out with a tool like you have and our drill , got a ton out. Well the dryer worked great for 3 days and back to not heating up. Guess we will have to buy a new one because it’s not the element or sensors we found. At a loss now
I followed the video perfectly and all went well. Just one thing strange, ohm test checked good on all the prongs on the old heating element after removal and the coil though mostly black was not broken, I did find the plate cracked exactly in the same place as the one in the video. So I went ahead and changed everything that came with the kit, including the Thermal Fuse and the Thermostat. After I thoroughly cleaned the interior I could get to of the dryer, and thoroughly cleaned the lint vent all the way to the roof I reinstalled the complete unit. After installation everything worked perfectly, dryer is heating well as new again. Why it stopped heating when ohm check checked good is still a mystery unless the crack in the plate holding the coils was a factor.
Just want to say THANK YOU! I'm a mom and when my dryer went out I was ready to cryyy (we had our vent cleaned so I knew that wasn't the issue). I found your video and thought okay, this is crazy but I'm going to do it. I DID IT!!!!! I haven't been this proud of myself since childbirth 🤣🤣🤣
You are so welcome!
I have the same feeling cause I did it awesome video
Lol the end
Ima father and I feel how u feel 😂😂
Girl power 💪yessss!
I know that feeling as I was in the same situation with my washing machine drain pump. It went out and I wanted to cry, but I successfully fixed the pump and have been on fire fixing things ever since. I was a little bit nervous about the dryer as I have only changed the cord and nothing more, but after reading your comment and with the help of this video I have all the confidence in the world that I will be able to accomplish this task. Thanks so much 🙏
Absolutely THE BEST How-To video I've ever seen! I'm a 56-year-old woman, and just finished replacing the heating element on my dryer! If you're not a teacher, Jeff, you missed your calling...Thank you!!!!
Thanks Ann, glad you liked it and Glad it helped!
I just can't thank you enough! I'm a 56 year old little lady and I repaired my dryer for $23! Your video was perfect!
Awesome, glad to hear you were bale to fix this yourself!
56 year old Honey Bear...
I am 61 and would not attempt this but I appreciate the information about the annual cleaning of the vent, the link to the brush, and the information about proper venting. That alone was worthwhile. I know someone who did have a dryer fire.
You sir, have allowed me to fix my dryer within twenty-four hours, and clean out my wall vent like a champ. Didn’t cost but $30 for the entire heating element unit and $18 for the vent brush. You’re a saint and a life-saver; the folks at my local Samsung wanted to charge me $100 just to come out. God knows what they’d charge after parts and the time it took them.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Honest person will charge $200 , dishonest $500
Where did you find parts???
@@daviddenison2097 you can get a replacement on amazon, just look for the parts number on the coil heating metal plate. it's around $25+ depending on shipping
@@jerkel Hi love one. U R right except the one I saw is $245. Is there knock off brands I missed?
Yay! I did it! I replaced the heating element in my Samsung dryer after suffering for 6 months having to hang clothes outside everyday. Thank you so much! Your video was so clear and precise and I followed it, step by step. I also bought the Klein tools meter you recommended to make sure the other parts weren't failing. I'm over joyed and feeling so accomplished. If this woman can do it, anyone can do it! Just follow Jeff's video and you can't go wrong.
Awesome Yolanda, congratulations on getting that done yourself.
What is your model dryer. How you order thanks
@@juanch2031 My Samsung dryer Model # DV393ETPARA/A1. I purchased the heating element on Amazon from the Brand: DOK Parts Best. I don't know the direct link to it. I also purchased the Klein tools meter recommended in this video. I wanted to check before assembling everything back together. The meter will help you with other projects, too. Seven months later, the dryer is working well. To avoid any mistakes in re-assembly, I took pictures of every part or wire I disconnected. I referred back to the pictures and video with every step. This is by far the best step-by-step video I have seen for this. Thank you Jeff.
I'm about to try this. I'm a grandmother. But I think I can do it, Yolanda! It is worth a try. :)
Yolanda, is your dryer not generating heat at all? or there is still little heat generated before you fix it
Thank you, Jeff . Husband and I did it together and it was more of fun , with no frustration at all. Thought we would end up yelling on each other and would mess up somewhere along the way. You were so patient with all your details. Just amazing.Thank you/
Dryer stopped heating, searched and came across this video. Saved us HUNDREDS of dollars. Amazing detail showing how to take the part out, and how to put it back in. Ordered off Amazon witht the part number in the description, and it arrived the next day. Put it in, following this video, and we are back to wearing dry clothes. Cannot thank you enough.
Jeff you are our SUPERHERO!!!! we felt empowered and did the fix ourselves....Thanks for helping us learn and feel confident in what we were doing. Might not have been the right fix... but we were confident that we would be able to find the element and put it back together. It WAS the right fix. And now it works again. You rock!!!!!
I've never stumbled upon a do it yourself repair video that actually made sense and felt like I could do it, thank you! I was able to fix my dryer myself and felt confident that it was done right. Thank you!
Glad it helped
I’ve been watching DIY RUclips videos for 3 years and this is the first one I’ve commented on. That was the best fix it vid I’ve seen. Everything was exactly what I dealt with and I went right thru. I got it all fixed up super fast. Thank you very much!👍👍
Glad it helped Kevin!
In less than 24 hours, this video helped me take apart my dryer, find the problem and fix it. 10/10 good sir. I owe you more than my views!
I completed this repair successfully on my first attempt thanks to you (and cleaned out my exhaust vent pipes, too).
*Great* video. You're an excellent instructor.
This is one of the best DIY videos I have seen! Great detail, you cover basic maintenance and the importance behind it. You rock! Thank you for taking the time to record this.
Wow, thank you!
Super helpful video that goes into great detail. My model was slightly different, but the information he gave was a great step by step demo to troubleshoot the issue, and opening up the whole machine. The detail he showed in testing the existing heating element to show the closed and open circuits was great. Found the broken heating element and was able to replace. Greatly appreciated!
Great to hear Gavin!
I did it!!! Thank you so much for your step by step instruction. My first small appliance repair! Another mom, very grateful and proud of myself!
This was simply one of the best videos I have viewed, it was correct in the cause, used the link to order the part and once the part arrived, had it all put back together and operational within 1.5 hours. I can not thank you enough for the assist, subscribed, liked and passed this on to my friends.
My husband and I just replaced the heating element in our dryer. We are beyond grateful for your expertise and willingness to share. The instructions were step by step, detailed, and clear. Thank you.
That is awesome!
great video, no fluff, no auditioning, no bs...just pure info....i couldn't wait to add my comment so doing it while the dryer is still open on the floor, but I know that I am going to save the money for a brand new dryer or an expensive service call by following this video.
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU!!!! I was able to fix my dryer MYSELF!!! Never have fixed any appliance before! My teenage boys now know they have a FIX IT Mom!! LOL
Thank you so much! We noticed our dryer wasn’t heating on Friday morning. I found your video and ordered the part within minutes. It arrived the next day and we were easily able to get it swapped out. No stress, no hassle, no having to wait for someone to come out. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped Kristen, and thank you so much for the $4.99 $SuperThanks!
Thanks for making such a detailed, well made video. I appreciate all the little details and reminders you included. It shows your experience, and certainly gives us laymen more confidence to try a repair like this. Keep up the good work.
Glad it was helpful! thanks for watching Steven!
You are a great teacher. Thanks to you, no cuts on my hands, & no curse words. My dryer is FIXED.
Glad to help Mike!
THANK YOU!!!!! You made replacing the heating element SO EASY. I got it repaired in about 2 hours, and that includes picking up the part. GOOD NEWS: I have a newer Samsung Steam Dryer and the metal platform that the element casing sits on does not have that back screw!! It has 2 slots that you just slide the back side into! Easy peasy!
Hey man, I super appreciate this video and I appreciate you even more for doing it in the first place. 3 years later after you made this video here I am watching this video, step by step with this same dryer (grey color) and it's been out of commission for almost 3 weeks. You're awesome. Thank you so much. I seriously couldn't have done it without you.
Thank you so much! I have the same model dryer as yours. I went to your Amazon link and purchased it. Took 2days to get here and I just installed the new parts and it works!!!
Glad I could help! Awesome how many people have reported back that this helped them!
Best darn DIY vid I have seen in my 54 years! Thanks Jeff!
Wow, thanks!
A MILLION THANK YOUS !!! Today I got to fix my dryer and my mom couldn’t be any more happier !!! Thank you so much !!!!!!!!!
Glad to help Lorenzio and thanks for watching.
Jeff, thanks so much for the detailed service video. Was able to get it done the first time around with very little hiccup. My model is a Samsung number DV350AER XAA03.
Only differences were the tabs on the front panel were a bit different and not as cumbersome to line up. And the major difference (which was a relief) is that the bracket holding the heater element casing didn’t halve the screws on the back that required the reach behind with the stubby screw driver. The bracket now just has the 2 screws in the front, and slots that the bracket slide into on the base of the machine.
Dryer now working like a charm. I have a home warranty that would’ve covered it. But it’s an $85 service fee and a wait time for a service tech. The part cost me only $28 on Amazon and was delivered within 8 hours. Took me only a couple hours of work time in between smoking a brisket outside.
Much thanks brother!
This video was extremely helpful! Thank you for the detailed step-by-step! My husband watched, re-watched, and paused along the way to a successful ending and a dryer that now works! Because of your easy-to-follow steps, we were able to work as a team and we both learned something new! Thank you for taking the time to make such a helpful guide!
Amy, is your dryer not generate heat at all? or there is still little heat generated before you fix it
Excellent video! Your advice was right on. The walkthrough had just enough detail but didn't get bogged down in banter. You described and linked exactly what was necessary for the job. Nice freaking vid! Just saved me a bunch. I think these heating elements are just low quality. My dryer is 4 years old, the vent is only a few feet long and was essentially clear and I clean the lint filter after every load. The plate was cracked on mine too, just like the one you showed. Anyway, thanks!
Glad it helped! On my old Whirlopool DUET dryer, they failed every 2-3 years. Probably don't last any longer unless you clean out all your ducts up tot he roof at least once per year. I get lazy and wait until my wife complains the dryer is not drying the clothes anymore, meaning heat exhaust is not exhausting out, so dryer overheats.
This video along with the recommendations saved me from wasting money on buying a new dryer. Every penny counts and spending the money on this kit helped save me money for another project. Thank you!
Jeff - You are the man! I was able to replace my heater element within a few days going out and it was as easy as you made it look. God bless you, sir!
Heads up, if you just unscrew the "bottom bracket" that you refer to at 9:26, you don't have to use your "stubby little Phillips" to blind unscrew the bottom bracket. You can keep the bottom bracket in the dryer and remove the heating element's housing.
Great video, this was extremely helpful!
That's fine you can get the heater loose but there's no way to get the heater out with that stand in place.
I tried this but I couldn't do it on this model without removing the bracket. Is it physically impossible? Seemed like it to me, but maybe a professional could. I agree with his decision to show the process of removing the stand, but definitely good to know you can if you're experienced.
Very helpful! I had trouble fitting the repaired heater enclosure into the round hole at the back after replacing and re-assembling. Kept falling out as I positioned the bracket underneath. Was made easier by attaching the bottom bracket back to the heater enclosure (after sliding the enclosure back into the dryer and reattaching wires) with the single screw on the tab of the enclosure, then positioning everything, and then securing the bracket at the bottom with the screws. Also, the heater enclosure has a tab that has to slide into a slot in the bracket, at least on mine. That threw me for a bit - again easier to attach them back together first, then position and complete the final re-install.
After searching on multiple channels, your comments, safety tips and filming were on point, thanks a bunch, best of kind.
Awesome, thank you!
We bought a used set which lost heat very quickly after purchase. You saved us a boatload, AND we had a fun project to do together. Thank you!
This was just perfect. Showed exactly what I needed to do an exactly which part was the issue. Thank you
You're welcome! Jay!
Just sending a “high five” to you Jeff for a most comprehensive video that enabled us to disassemble, replace the element (which by the way had the element broken and the metal housing cracked in exactly the same place as the one you showed in the video), clean and reassemble very easily. Great step by step detail with clear camera shots! Thanks!!
Yes! Helped another one! Thanks for watching Karen!
Probably engineered to break.......buy, buy, buy.
In my case the resistance broke exactly on the same spot, with the frame cracked on the same spot, except that there was no obstruction in the exhaust duct that could cause overheating; we clean it regularly. Well, it's been in use for 7 years, so this might be just regular wear. I agree that it must have been designed with that weak spot built in.
@@jeffostroff Just repaired mine thanks to your video and it was also broken in the exact same spot. Thanks for the amazing video!!!
Add another to the list that was broken exactly the same way and fixed by simply following your video. Let me just echo everything that Karen and so many others have said! Superb!
Replaced the heating element and it works! Fabulous instructions! So thankful to JEFF !!
Absolutely the BEST video I found. You eliminated unecessary steps and saved me hundreds of dollars for a repairman. Keep the great videos coming. Thank you so much.
You're welcome Jim!
My forever tip I've got as an becoming engineer back in 1976, during studies was, that I always have to think about the one who works on any engine/machine with the screwdriver! I NEVER forgot about that! Had to smile about your brand related comments! But you find these genius everywhere..! Free translation from German wording: "Yesterday I did not know how to spell engineer, today I am one (of these)!"
Maybe these machines were not designed by engineers, but rather some people from marketing left over after the engineering team was laid off.
@@jeffostroff Good answer!
I think they make it as hard as they can to encourage the use of servicepeople. There'd be almost no need for them if everything was easy to fix!

We subscribed to your channel and look forward to our next project. BTW, there’s an air leak on the shuttle, we’re throwing your contact info their way.
I'd love for NASA to call me!
I have a Kenmore dryer, which is made by Samsung and this tutorial was amazingly helpful😊. Thank you so much, you saved me a ton of money !
We could not have done this without the help of this video. My husband and I are 70 years old and have always been very resourceful, but this was truly a job that was beyond our skill set. However, with your help we now have a working Samsung dryer that was purchased under 4 years ago. We remodeled in 2017 and purchased 4 brand new appliances. Of them, 3 have had issues and we still do not have the ice maker in our fridge repaired. We will never buy a Samsung appliance again. Thank you so much for putting this video online. The hardest part was loosening the screws and wiring clips. Lol! You are a gem!
Glad to help, and congrats on fixing that yourself!
This video really helped me with the same Samsung dryer. Maybe you should make a video on what dryer to buy that doesn't require so much work like this Samsung.
They all do. My old Whirlpool DUET same thing.
Perfect! Saved me tons of time man
Glad it helped!
THANK YOU 🙏🏼 so much, I have the same red Samsung dryer as in this video. We were able to repair it ourselves and saved a ton of money. I watched your video and was able to instruct my husband with every step. Thank you again. 👍🏼
Watch the video once and ordered the part from the link. I was able to install like a pro. No problems. My element look just like yours. It was broken in the same place and had the same crack in the metal plate. We have had our dryer for 6 years and this was the first problem. Thank you for the video!
Awesome Roy!
Thanks so much for this video! I was able to disassemble the dryer and test all connections for continuity. While it actually wasn’t the heating element, I still had to take the same steps to determine that it was the thermal cutoff fuse. Ordered a new one on Tuesday, got it today, switched it out, and reassembled. Voila! We have heat in the dryer now!
I agree with the previous comment about having a first aid kit handy. No matter how careful I was, I still managed to cut myself 5 times just because all the pieces are metal and pretty thin, so like razors everywhere. Also, be prepared for a harder time putting it back together - at least that’s how it went for me. Screws come out much easier than they go in. Same with the bracket. My Samsung didn’t have the two screws on backside of bracket, fortunately. And finally, when this man tells you to take good pictures of your wiring, LISTEN to him. I took pictures and still was praying I got it right when reconnecting.
Thanks for the awesome video.
I cut myself too!
Yea my didn’t have the screws in the back bracket either so that help a lot, my heating element had a crack on the plate but not on the actual coils so am hope this fixes it
Hey Jeff! I just replaced the first heating element in my Samsung Dryer about a year and a half ago. The first element lasted about 8 1/2 years. You have to take several parts off to get to the element, but the procedure is very strait forward, as you show in your video. I also cleaned the vent pipe and now it is time for me to do it again. I only have about 6 feet of vent pipe to clean. I also replaced the lint screen at the time because it was torn and allowed bigger chunks of lint to get through. Thanks, Russ
Yes, keeping those pipes clean is the key to a long and healthy heating element lifespan.
Sir, I sincerely cannot thank you enough for this video. I was able to pinpoint the issue, disassemble, replace the heating element (crack in the spring and frame, just like you said there would be), and re-assemble in less than a few hours total time (same day in fact as Amazon sent me the replacement part same day). Thank you so much and please keep putting out content like this!! Who would have thought for less than $30 I could fix my Samsung dryer!?!? You saved me hundreds of dollars!!
Glad it helped
Saw multiple videos but yours get to the heating element quicker but it was a beating to get to assemble back. It was done. It was cut on same place too as in your video. You are a life saver 🎉
Thanks Jeff. I was about to call Samsung service and do an expensive repair before watching your video. Could complete the repair under $25.

I worked on a bunch of these and almost evertime the issue ended up being in the board after replacing the element and the thing sky rockets up over 500 degrees when you start it 😳
This worked perfectly! My husband and I just finished repairing the dryer and what a joy it was to turn it on and get heat! We used the link you provided to purchase the heating element gathered up all the tools required and set to work. By far the most difficult part was getting the screws out of the back part of the heating element then putting them back in...more awkward than difficult. You saved us a hefty repair bill as quotes ranged from $220.00 ca to over $300.00 ca. Thanks Jeff!

Awesome, glad to help Patrik!
I second that! Got a few cuts myself throughout this repair
Yes! You will definitely be cut lol...thx for the video!
Usually we see a code on the Samsung models (most not all depending if the temp sensor is driven by a circuit board: tS, t5, tC, tO, t0, tE, tE3, tC5, tCS, 1 tC, 1tC5, 1tCS, Extra Low light is blinking. * some units have a fault code that wont allow the dryer to start until the filter or vent is cleared.
One has to ask are you getting no heat, low heat at high heat setting, just lo heat etc.- might not be the heating element coil. This is why we use diagnostic steps, basic electronic science and read a wiring schematic. VS most DIYERS and novices * even professionals shoot the parts cannon at the problem see what sticks (which is NOT diagnostic/critical thinking). HINT most wire schematics for dryers are taped behind or behind and inside the top control module (BONUS HINT on refrigerators there taped Behind the front grill, in the center or on the left side. Other common locations are on the left or right side by the condenser, or inside the refrigerator section inside the control panel)). Most show you the error code faults and most show you how to read the faults from there you can TEST the circuits, sensors, heating coils following the wire schematic to determine exact problem. If you cant test it you haven't found the problem. * like Jeff shows.
Electric dryers are very simple machines (most are electron hogs) vs gas vs line clothes outside.
IF I could recommend any purchase advise to consumers- STAY AWAY from all the sensor gadget features on a dryer (or washer or any appliance) you only need about 4-5 temp settings with todays clothes the rest of the crap manufactures throw on there is just plan nonsense i.e. sanitation settings. Dryer manufacturers use sanitation standards put forth by the National Science Foundation adding more settings and upselling is just marketing BS. Sure manufactures are thinking about a VIRUS sanitation setting.
The washer is smart and talks the app, but surprising the dryer does not, and no error codes appeared either which was surprising.
when should you see the error codes? upon start up? paused? is there a trick to get them to display?
@@garymccall9573 start up there should be a code display. Whats going on with your dryer?
@@proanswers it starts and runs but doesn't heat up. No codes on start up.

Great to hear Rosshan!
Jeff, Thank you! Best fix-it video I've ever seen and the only one I've commented on. I purchased my heater element via Amazon which was $22. I overnighted it and it cost $38. Every detail of the job is outlined - even how to pull apart the connections which I usually lose patience with and ruin, get angry, cause more repairs and then spend more money. Great video that anyone can follow. I also took apart my vent hose and blew my power blower through it and cleared out the whole line. Agree with the one comment though, you will need some band aids!
Awesome Kenneth, glad you were able to make this repair!
Not all heroes wear capes... that's all I have to say. Thank you 1000x
Thanks Nicholas!
Looks like I’ll be replacing mine again it was just replaced last year. Samsung needs to do something about this.
A lot of time people blame their dryer. Mine was my fault because I did not vacuum out the vent ducts leading up to the roof, so it clogged, and super hot moist air remains in the dryer instead of blowing out the roof.
Same. I replaced mine after 4 years of use. The new one from Amazon lasted 1 year. Fixing it again tomorrow. I take out the drum though. Easy to do and makes it so much easier.
I followed this video step by step, and was able to change this part on my own, (someone who has very little experience in handywork!) Amazing!!! Thank you so much for saving me a couple hundred dollars on a repairman.
Sir;
I now feel confident enough to attempt to repair my dryer. The amount of detail that you put into this video really made a difference.
Thank you.
Awesome glad to help
Hi Jeff. Is this the same type of fix for a gas dryer by Samsung, model DV42H5000?
No, I don't think the gas models have a heating element, I thought there was a combustion chamber or something.
I took everything out just like you did and checked for continuity and everything seemed fine but when i put everything back together it still didn’t heat up... is there a fuse or anything like that? Or should i just buy a new heating element?
Well if everything else is fine I am wondering if there isn't something wrong with the controller board not sending the signal to turn on so the question I have is does your dryer support any kind of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi support to a Samsung app on your phone? A lot of people have this in their appliance and they don't know it but it can help determine what's wrong with your dryer kind of like reading your cars obd 2 port to find out what's wrong with the engine
@@jeffostroff No, it doesn’t have any type of Bluetooth or wifi
@@jeffostroff The thing is that when i put everything back together and turned it on, it actually heated up but It started smelling burnt and it only heated up for about 5 minutes and it stopped drying
So do you know what it could be?
Did you ever figure out what went wrong? I just did the repair myself today and I had the same results you did...thinking I may have misconnected the wiring
Thanks so much for your attention to detail and your well explained video. The crazy thing about this is the fact that my broken element had the break in the exact same place!! Second coil to the left of the retainer. And the base plate was cracked in the exact same manner. Thanks so much for saving me a lot of money by being able to do this myself. I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I paid $17 and bought the heating element, followed your video to the letter and now my dryer is working better than before. You literally saved me hundreds of dollars.
Glad it helped! Cha ching!
Eh you just admitted it is the design that's at fault after saying it was the user's fault. The thermal fuse should open before there is any chance of the element breaking. It's a flat out bad design. A thermal fuse is much cheaper to fix than an entire heating element.
Sometimes the heating element can break simply from the stress of the heat several cycles of high heat before and the thermal fuse kicks in . Also we don't know that maybe there is flaw in the manufacturing I have had a number of people comment to me that their heating element cracked in the exact same place mine did I find that to be kind of coincidental. But yes when there's excessive heat inside the dryer it is our fault for not cleaning out the duct inside the wall and if you have blockages in there then all of the heat and humidity cannot escape out of the duct and out into the outside world, it stays trapped inside the dryer where it is constantly under high heat and the dryers are designed so that the heat is dissipating out the duct not being trapped inside the dryer
Agreed. Ours was perfectly clean and still died
Truth be told there is to many people trying to do this DIY videos. I think most do it for money or whatever. I want to say that this guy "first video" does way better at explaining everything to do a really job!!! Probably the best I've ever watched. He gives information that can save lives as well. Thank you sir, I think I'll follow your efforts in life. Great job, I will be watching move of what you do and I'm sure learning somethings most overlooked. Dryer fires should never be overlooked!!!
Thank you for this video! Was able to fix my Samsung dryer in 1 1/2 hours following your video and all for a $30 part. Really appreciate your thoroughness!
Way to go Alexander glad to hear you were successful and thanks for watching my video
What sets this video apart from others is the importance of checking electrical continuity of various components involved, not just the heating element. This way you can diagnose the actual problem. Last year I replaced the heating element using this video. This year the heating element has no problem, but the thermal fuse is the culprit. Thanks a lot!
The cheap heating element is probably the problem that I’d blowing out the fuse.
Thank you for this video. I purchased the entire unit instead of replacing just the heating element. I was able to take apart and replace it and put it back together with in two hours. Your video so SUPER helpful. Thank you.
Great job James!
Thank you so much for your step-by-step video of this fix. I thought it was going to be a headache to do but it went as smooth as your video!!
Just watched again as a refresher. Changed mine 2 years ago and I have to do it again. Thanks for the great video
You are awesome! I watched other videos to fix my dryer and those showed taking the dryer apart !! Jeepers!!! I’m a subscriber of your channel since the FL condo collapse so when I saw this video, it was the ticket! Did myself (help with my 78 yr old Mom too) and I DID IT!!!! I snapped off a connector on the thermistor thing and bought new one but I felt like a pro. Dryer working great!!! Thank you for taking the time to upload this video.
Glad to hear you made that repair yourself Karen!
A big thank you to you sir. I have a similar Samsung dryer which wasn't exactly the same model as this, but was able to test all of the electrical components with the help of this video and determined that the heating element was bad. Ordered a new one, installed it, and it's working well 😎
Glad I could help David!
Jeff, Thank you so much for making this step by step video. I just used it to replace my heater element (I have the exact same Samsung dryer). This was super easy and probably saved me over $1000.00, thanks!!!!
Awesome, glad it helped you
Thanks so much for this detailed video! Even though I was looking for an excuse to get rid of the Samsung appliances that came with the house, figured I could try to fix it first to at least finish my laundry.
But omg, the lint dust! I vacuumed out the vent in the wall first with my shopvac and it clogged for a sec with the chunks that came out! Glad I watched this video and saved myself a fire. My parents never owned a house, so I had no idea that it was a thing to be aware of.
The only thing I wished the video had addressed was how tricky the metal wire connecter tab things connected to the shell of the heating element could be. I figured it out eventually!
Thanks again!
Just completed this fix on my D42H5000. It took me about 2 hours but I'm the least handy person ever. Thank you Jeff, money is real tight for me these days and your video gave me the confidence to try to tackle this myself. With the money I saved I'll be able to afford several more months of the medicines I need. Your content is a literal livesaver. I can't thank you enough.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Thank you so much!! We have not cleaned our exterior vent since we purchased three years ago. Again thank you for your detailed and informative tutorial, I'm glad we didn't have a fire before we knew about the regular maintenance. ❤
Thanks for this video. I have the same exact dryer and was able to do the job in less than an hour thanks to you. Very helpful, not to mention how much money I saved by doing it my self
Dear Jeff, Big thanks for this wonderful tutorial. I just finished replacing the heating element and my dryer works well now. I am from Calgary, Canada. Thank you.
Glad it helped that is awesome to hear Pratik
Thank you Jeff for posting this very well-detailed disassembly video on how to troubleshoot & replace the heating element on the Samsung dryer. I have model: DV328AEW/XAA which was manufactured on Feb. 2008, and I'm glad I was able to get it working again, and possibly get a few more years of service out of it. I clean the lint filter just about every 2-3 cycles, so maybe that's the reason why it has lasted so long with the old/original element. I did vacuum and cleaned the interior once I had the dryer disassembled, as well as the vent port to make sure there aren't any blockages.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Thank thank thank you!!! None of the other videos showed this exact model! I really appreciate you making this video! It was so easy to fix!
Glad I could help Debbie
Thank you! The whole family has been down with the 'rona for the last few days and the dryer stopped heating. In addition to being sick we have a special-needs kid which means that laundry never stops in our house. Wife was stressing. Can't exactly ask someone to do a service call with a house full of contagious folks.
I'm fairly handy but wouldn't have figured out how to approach this repair without your video. Despite being sore all over and semi-feverish I was able to get this thing back up and running in about 24hr, including getting the parts from Amazon.
My model (DV210AEW) had a slight difference in the mounting bracket. Instead of two screws in the back, it's two tabs in slots in the bottom of the unit. I was excited at first because I thought I got off easy. Nope. Finally figured out that I had to tilt the dryer up a bit to pry those tabs loose from underneath. I think you're supposed to be able to rock the bracket out but there wasn't enough clearance.
I tend to hold mechanical engineers in high esteem, but I must say they could have designed this unit to be a lot simpler to repair.
Thanks again.
90minutes start to finish. Jeff, thanks, very well done Video. I normally make jobs like this into an afternoon and evening but watched your video start to finish, gathered the tools, ordered the parts and then walked through the steps.
Glad you enjoyed it Craig!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. I just used it to remove the part. I so appreciate you taking the time to make the video.
Thanks for the detailed help. Fixed my dryer, cleaned the vent and feel like a champ! You helped me from making the mistake of buying a new dryer!
Great job!
This video may be 3yrs old… BUT it has blessed me a mother/teacher to fix my dryer and save a great deal of money. Thank you sir for the very informative DIY video!
I have a Samsung model: DV350AEW XAA. This video was extremely helpful. It was setup exactly like the one in the video. Thank you so much for putting this out there.
We have ordered the heating element. It was broken like yours. Pending delivery and we will be putting everything back together this weekend.
Thank you very much for your help me to save my samsungdryer. My samsungdryer was not working and I do not know what happened. I just watch your video and following your instruction. I did it today and my samsungdryer is working excellent now. Thank you again and I wish you in good health.
Well made video, my son and I just replaced our heating element by following along. Was a snap, dryer is working like new! Thanks for posting this - definitely a great video to reference if you are replacing your heating element in a Samsung dryer. Saved me lots of $ and didn't take long at all.
Glad it helped Jim!
Hello! I just wanted to say thank you so much for your video and your patience in explaining it. My dryer wasn’t drying! So I googled and your video came up and I watched and then I said let me see if I can do it on my own and guess what I fixed it thanks to you!!! I feel so proud of myself!! My issue was the thermal fuse not the heating element, I only spent $15 bucks 😁 thank you and keep up the great work!!
Thank you. This video was so helpful. I cleaned out the vent before starting and wow. Just wow. I don't want to say more at the risk of embarrassing myself for letting it get that bad. My heating element split exactly as shown in the video. One thing I was surprised about (or not) was the poor workmanship on the components inside. Some of those metal prongs were bent and clearly it came like that from the factory. Made by Samsung and assembled in Mexico. No one has ever worked on that machine before. I bought it new and it's just out of warranty now. I replaced an old Kenmore set that I had for 15 years. The dryer motor went out and I should've just replaced it and kept my old white set with 2 dials and one button to start it. Never gave me a second of trouble in 15 years.
Thank you! My Samsung heating element broke in exactly the same place. You video helped me save a bunch!
Thanks for this video, helped me all the way from opening up the dryer, to confirming the open-circuit on the heating element, as well as how to properly clean the heating channel into the drum. Need more of these kinds of help videos on RUclips.
Glad it helped
Just wanted to say huge thanks as well! Was able to get in and swap out the heating element. Great savings by being able to do it myself!
Great to hear Joshua
Hey, great video. I search up fix videos whenever I need them, and yours was well organized, with very clear audio
