My son wrote me a 2 page letter and handed it to me as he got out the car to go to work. I sat in my car before I drove off and read it and he explained in that letter that he was gay . I drove home with tears in my eyes with knowing how depressed he had been with trying to hide that he was gay and when i went to pick him up I told him I love him for who he is and I kinda knew from when he was about 5 that this maybe the outcome. Im 50 this year and still never found the courage to come out to my mother. She now has terminal cancer with just weeks to live and i still cant tell her. I never got the right vibes that she would be ok with it. Im glad that things have changed a lot for the younger generations, maybe less lives will be living a lie . Well done to you and your mum.
I'm so sorry. I'm about your age, and coming out to my parents was the hardest thing I ever did. I share your pleasure that things seem to have changed for the younger generations.
Unfortunately my mother passed away just 5 weeks after being diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. 29/09/23 ....so I never did tell her. But the rest of my family now know.
I felt the relief for you. That cry was a result of years of pent up uncertainty and fear of being accepted as who you are. There’s nothing wrong with who you are and I’m so glad you have a mommy who validates that. Live out loud my love!!! 💕
OhHey Wessuhhh I wish I had that mom but I’m still scared 😥 and him crying just made me cry so long since I can never express myself to anyone I feel trapped and I have to maintain this image of being straight due to having homophobic parents

Oh my word, your hair! What's that haircut called? This RUclipsr "Chris Oflyng" has the same haircut, and i really wanna get something similar to it. It's funny because you're both from Wisconsin lol.
xXPaulinaPenguinXx Eric Gonzalez I know. Same with me. I am glad some parents are so accepting. People are born that way. I feel bad for anyone who's parents would not accept it. Love is Love. I feel bad for people who had to go through hiding it. In today's culture it is definitely accepted more than this time. But from what I have seen through highschool so far, knowing how those kids get treated differently because of their sexuality is bullshit. I like women. I am not going to treat a woman differently if she does too. I am not going to treat a guy differently if he doesn't like women. I wouldn't treat someone any different if they were bisexual. I wouldn't treat you differently if you were transgender. I just hope it is what makes people happy. What is sad is people hide it. I am a Christian. People quote both the old and new testament. The fact of the matter is the new testament teaches to love all and forgive. Jesus Forgives. Jesus loves everyone regardless of sexuality. To say otherwise is absolutely insane. The mother seems to share the same views as me. I wouldn't treat you differently. If it says in the old testament sodomy is wrong. The new testament never says that. Jesus loves all so let's all do the same.
It's so sad that he said sorry immediately after coming out..... It's a sad world where the pressure of social norms is this strong. Society is fucked up
Anna Dash I meant that he felt like saying "sorry" immediately after saying "I'm gay". That's the pressure of the social norms. If social norms had been different it'd be like: I have ginger hair, I'm sorry.
RainbowAnnaDash Yes, so he said sorry because of the pressure of social norms. That's what I was saying. You are saying basically the same thing only with different words
RainbowAnnaDash !!! Well if it stopped, human race would be extinct within like 100 years :D What I, or anyone can do about it is be open-minded. I'm as straight as a brand new German nail but I that doesn't mean I didn't go to a bar with colourful flag hanging above it in Brussels ;) if people were open minded life would be easier for *a lot* of people
That this visual occurs to you may indicate that you harbour latent sexuality yourself; come on - be honest with yourself. Free yourself from society's pressures - come on out of that closet Bro.
When my son came out, we were driving home. I remained calm and spoke to him till we got home. I told him I was proud no matter what. He has several diagnosis and still amazes me to this day! Your mamma is a smart woman too!!
My friend came out as bi to me and I’m not annoying so I wasn’t like “hAha d0 you have a cRush on mE.” And then it turned out they actually did like me and I was super oblivious about it haha whoops
I just wish I could have the same story 4 years ago I came out today the closet to my mom and she kicked me out of the house. After living with her for 19 years it broke my heart how easily religion could break up even a son mom relationship over being gay.

But I am asking as kindly as I can too please keep this too yourself your comment isn't going to change anything nor is making fun of it. All you are going to get out of this is a bunch of people yelling at you through a screen. You have a right to believe and act the way you act, but slowly times are changing and it wont be long until you culture changes too i don't know when or how long it will take all i know is that it wont last like that forever whether it be tomorrow or when you are a grandparent or even longer than that... so please keep this to yourself because no one gives a damn about your opinion because that is all it is.
It's 2023 now, and this is somehow the first time I've seen this video background. Matthew, you've definitely gotten this thousands of times, but Thank You. I saw this when it first went around on RUclips over a decade ago, and I never, NEVER forgot it. It was in the back of my head when I came out to my own mom, and it was so encouraging to know someone else shared my struggle and bore my same weight. I hope you're happy today.
I don't wanna be that person, but coming out isn't something to make a "prank" out of. Those who are actually in the closet have to muster up a lot of courage to do so, and it really is nerve-wracking.
@@cutuway I'm saying it's wrong. I'm not just talking about OP or this commentor, I'm putting forth my opinion that it's not a very good idea for a prank in general.
This is a real mother. Loving Caring Kind. It breaks my heart he said sorry! Str8 ppl have it easy they are lucky they don’t have a day made for them!! One day I hope I dream this world and everyone in it will wake up! And we look back and realise how awful we were how disgusting our behaviour was to think that we could possibly decide a future for someone else make a choice for someone else #equality
Lexie DelFabbro, I'm glad that there are people who are like you, not many but people who have respect for others and don't judge them based on they're sexuality because all people are equal.
I wish everyone's parents would just accept them for who they are but sadly we live in a world when some people just don't support us for who we wanna be
Hi Matt, I'm a 40 years old mother of 2 beautiful girls. And I'm Muslim, from Moroccan origins, born in France, a French citizen. Why am I saying that and what's the point of my comment? Just to let you know, even if my religion sees you and all the LGBTQ+ as sinners, to me, you are human before anything. And you're just in love with people of the same sex... If one day, one of my daughters would come to me and say: "Mum, I'm lesbian", it won't be the end of the world... She will remain my baby daughter I love and always will, she won't be an other person, she will be herself... Of course, it will be very weird, I don't know how I will feel when I will meet for the 1st time her girlfriend, but I will always be open minded to who she is, and won't judge her or her girlfriend... I'm so sad when I hear stories about parents who throw away their kids because they are gay, because being gay is not a choice, it is only about one heart in love of an other one... I'm so touched by the love and the open mind of your parents, and I hope you will share many good memories with your parents! Respect guys! I wish you all the best, please don't change anything! Much love and hugs from France... 😘😘😘
Samira ACHAACH Thank you for your comment!! You know, not everyone will tell you this, but it’s totally fair for it to be weird for you. You can be completely accepting of a gay child, but it is still something to deal with as a parent! Everyone has certain expectations of how life will turn out: go to school, get a job, find a spouse, have a family... something like that. Just as a gay kid has to slowly accept that they are gay and their life will be different from that expectation, so does the parent! You also have a lifetime of assuming your child will follow the most common path, and even if you see the alternative as every bit as equivalent, it’s still a change in expectations! And it’s OK for that to be weird for a while! But it will eventually feel totally normal. I don’t know how old your kids are, but consider letting them know that if they were LGBT, you’d love and accept and support them unconditionally. At best, it makes a really difficult time a LOT easier. And at “worst” and they’re straight after all, you’ve taught a bit of tolerance. :)
I completely support you. Im not part of the LGBT community but i agree with you completely. I dont personally think Islam is against them. Just the mind set and cultures of those people.
And you've just went against the word of your god. You are obliged to kill this kid,and me as I'm an atheist aka the greatest evil on Earth, and anyone who disagrees with the Quran basically. You've taken the first step to be rid of that disgusting ancient dogma though so I suppose that's positive. Respect to you.
This is the kind of reaction I wish every LGBTQ child recieved. She's a good mama, and it shows in just how much he wanted to tell her. He trusted his mama to love him even though it was frightening. Way to go kid
I used to hate gays and lesbians but after watching these videos I literally don't see anything wrong. Seeing how hard it is for you guys to come out is just heartbreaking. I hope you have a great life and don't let anyone stop you from you doing that.
This is the saddest video of coming out I have ever seen. The other videos they act like I'm going to tell my mom or dad no big deal. He's really scared. It breaks my heart.
+Mister Chiky it's sad how scared and upset he is cos NO child should have to feel like this. Like its something to be ashamed about. It's sad that he apologized to his mother for being gay, as if it's his fault and something terrible. Like if he failed a class or got a DUI. I'm not gay so I can't relate to him entirely but my cousin recently came out to me the end of last year and this makes me incredibly sad cos I know this is how he felt and still continues to feel and is still terrified to tell his parents, who already know and don't care. Yet he's still fearful they'll disown him. I wish we could take this awful negative stigma away from being gay. As if it's a curse or a bad awful thing.
this is so beautiful, I wish all parents were like this mother, im actually crying. bless this mother and bless you for managing to come out to her, it's hard to do that.
My parents started crying after I told them I was gay and my dad is sending me to therapy but the therapist himself says my dad is stupid and she like helps me get through this rough time and Matt you are so lucky to have a mom who really loves you!
@@DominicStride really appreciate you not trying to force others to become straight mad respect for that man. but you say its a sin to be gay yet at the same time, its supposedly a "sin" for women to not be virgins. sooooo?
The reaction from his mom, it's for me PRICELESS WHEN SHE HUGGING SO LOVELY AND SAID DON'T WORRY THIS BOY OR TEENAGER WAS SO BRAVE I HAVE GREAT RESPECT FROM HIS MOTHER!!!!
Your video makes me cry in happiness for you. I am bi and came out when I was 60. When I was a child beeing gay was forbidden in Norway. So I never found my man. I wish you all the best in life! Love from Oyvind in Norway.
I'm so happy that this video meant something special to you. I'm happy that you were able to come out, and I hope that one day you find the perfect person to make you happy. :-)
Matthewac1 my brother was in the same situation. I also made a quote for him and me and people being bullied because we're different. I was fed up with it and I actually attempted suicide. But then I made this quote. "Every individual is one of a kind in their own way, even if some fail to see it." I hope this helped you and others. It really helped me and my brother 😊
This video really touched me and it made me cry because of the mom's beautiful reaction. I thought about that if it had been my son doing this, that that's how I would be too. I think that he apologized, not because he likes men, but because he knew probably as a mother she had dreams of him getting married to a woman and having his own children one day, and didn't want to have to take her dreams away from her.
Woop hi guys its ChocolateCereal Time here im just on a diff acc lmao. Ive also figured out im trans soooo yeah and they know i like both but dont know in trans... Help? (Ps: yup silly then depressing xD)
Congratulations and great job, Matthew! Your video is making a difference for other gay kids. It moved me to tears. I grew up in Louisville and came out to my parents when I was 14 (1979). I had the same fears. I'm grateful my parents reacted pretty much the same way yours did...with unconditional love. On a side note, when I told my grandmother (mom's mom) her response was, "Well, EVERYBODY knows your gay!" Being GLBTQ is much easier than it was 38 years ago. However, I'm left shaking my head, that in the 21st century gay kids still have to be terrified of being kicked out of the house or disowned by their families. Thank you for your courage and be proud of what you have accomplished.
Thank you for sharing your story with me. I enjoy hearing other people's experiences. I'm very happy to hear that your family accepted you, and I hope that you are happy.
This video really strikes home with me. I couldn't help but cry so much at how scared he was and how loving his mom is. Thanks for posting this. It is the closest video to my own experience I have seen so far on the internet.

Annie Leonhardt im not part of the Lgbt but i love supporting ppl just take it step by step remember that u dont have to come out but just do it at your own time when your ready
I love this!! I never got the chance to tell my mom, she passed away when I was 9,I was 18 when I came out, my dad always knew haha, loves me unconditionally. It was my mom from heaven that gave me the strength to come out and be the beautiful person I am :)
I'm happy to hear you and your dad have such a strong bond with one another. I'm sure your mother is looking down on you from heaven, and I'm sure she is very proud of you.
His Mom is just absolutely an angel. I cried when she said, while hugging him close, "Don't be sorry, silly!" Brave, sweet young gentleman who was raised by a Mother who taught him VERY well. You are an amazing person with an incredible Mother, sweetheart. ❤️ I wish your family nothing but the best.
I hope my parents are like this. I tried to ask them what if I'm lesbian and they answered, "You better not or else we will kick you out of this house". I am currently waiting for the right time to tell them the truth. Maybe when I become independent, I'll be ready
I think your parents should take a little look at this video and learn to be more accepting. I’m sorry honey… you never deserve to feel like you can’t be yourself.. like mama said “if they’re your real friends, they won’t care.” Same goes with family members, if they truly love you and care for you, they shouldn’t care and should eventually come around.. but unfortunately, some people care more about their “beliefs” than their blood.
I really suggest you wait until you're independent and prioritize your safety!! Remember that you don't owe it to come out to people, it sucks to have to live in the closet around your family but safety is a much, much higher priority

xXPaulinaPenguinXx do you have snapchat ? from France
xXPaulinaPenguinXx Eric Gonzalez I know. Jesus loves all so let's all do the same.
same :)
God won't be blessing that's for sure. Kids are to be loved unconditionally and receive prayer and can be set free through God's grace.

Anna Dash I meant that he felt like saying "sorry" immediately after saying "I'm gay". That's the pressure of the social norms. If social norms had been different it'd be like: I have ginger hair, I'm sorry.

Hi Matt,
I'm a 40 years old mother of 2 beautiful girls.
You are so wise!!!
Samira ACHAACH thank you. 🏳️🌈
This is the kind of reaction I wish every LGBTQ child recieved. She's a good mama, and it shows in just how much he wanted to tell her. He trusted his mama to love him even though it was frightening. Way to go kid

This is the saddest video of coming out I have ever seen. The other videos they act like I'm going to tell my mom or dad no big deal. He's really scared. It breaks my heart.
I dont think it's sad the mom is accepting him
He;s not scared.
There is a video where a child is beaten by his own parents after coming out. That is by far way worse and more sad.
Kali_Dash yeah I get it.

I hope my parents are like this. I tried to ask them what if I'm lesbian and they answered, "You better not or else we will kick you out of this house". I am currently waiting for the right time to tell them the truth. Maybe when I become independent, I'll be ready
good luck
That’s terrible that they’re like that. You shouldn’t say a word until you are out on your own and completely independent.
I think you should tell them when you move out
I think your parents should take a little look at this video and learn to be more accepting.
