In interviews, Paul Simon has said this version is how the song was intended to be sung and it was now Disturbed’s. He even put a link to it on his own website. Check out the official video. It now has over 1 billion views. This is a masterpiece.
David Draiman trained as Jewish Cantor in his youth but went the way of metal in the mid 90s. Didn’t discover them until I came across them on RUclips in 2020 during COVID. I went down the rabbit hole watching their videos. You need to watch the official. Though I like Down with the sickness, it’s not anywhere near as good as many of their metal and nonmetal music. Paul Simon prefers this version compared to the original (I still own my original S & G vinyl from 1964). Watch the original video!!!! I personally don’t care for this performance. Draiman was very ill (sitting down) and he didn’t find out that producers autotune all live performances. He was furious. Down with the Sickness was their very first hit over 25 years ago and my favorite either. They released some incredible music since then. The guys in the band are gifted musicians, write incredible metal and nonmetal songs. Expand your experience. Never judge a band by one early song. I’ve seen Metallica live, have you? This is advice from a 75 year old grandma from California, U.S.
You know how much a song means for someone when you go to its RUclips video and see lots of comments of people saying how the song reignited their hearts as well as those of the beloved ones they lost. =,) Also, I miss my mom and dad. They're 3922 km away from me right now.
I once saw an ice skater perform ( or actually compete) to this song. It was so powerful! I think the recorded version was a bit faster. I am old enough to remember the Simon and Garfunkel original, which I adored, but I find this very moving as well.
If you think the original has more emotion than this version, you need to look up the definition of "emotion". I liked Simon and Garfunkel's version, I was around when it was released, but I never heard the lyrics until I discovered this version. It makes you listen. You actually said he sang it too well. Whaaaat?
I clicked on this reaction because I thought it was the official studio video. You should check it out because it gives a wonderful visual story with the song.
Johnny Cash: “Hurt” is … awright. I wept like a child first time I heard that. This is *almost* in the same league as MeatLoaf… in his dreams. I mean, it was a good cover, but give me MeatLoaf’s cover of Gershwin’s “Somebody Loves Me” on the Larry Adler album as a cover, any day. Setting the bar there, let me know if anyone can beat it.
I mean... hard to beat the original. But I do love this version. They do have a couple of songs off the most recent album that do pretty much what you're asking for. I love SoaD and Linkin Park... and Disturbed. Not my favorite bands and there are definitely newer metal bands that are doing things better today... but I think that stuff had some merit to it.
S & G's version was a warning and was meant to be heard. This version is the anger that warning was ignored and is meant to be felt! Simon wrote this song for David's voice. He just didn't know it at the time. And btw -- David was as sick as a dog when he performed that on the Canon show, so to be sick and still sound that good? This far exceeds just a "decent" rendition. Maybe you should read up a bit on David, and read an interview or 2 on him choosing this song to cover. And while you're at it, watch the actual music video. And just listen and watch. Take it ALL in! Because if you don't end up with goose bumps by the end of the video, then there is something seriously wrong with you!
David Draiman had a lesion on his vocal cord and was in pain during this performance. There is a very wrong rumor that he had the flu. He talks about his lesion in a couple videos. One is with the RUclips channel The Charismatic Voice. He was disappointed in his performance. He didn’t have anything to be disappointed about. He also talks about being classically trained as a Cantor in some interviews. I discovered Disturbed a few months ago because of this cover. Now I am a huge fan. I’m 61 years old. I was (and still am) a huge 80s metal head and I refused to listen to so called Nu Metal. My son was into 90s music, he was born in 1980, but he wasn’t into Disturbed.
I love their cover of this song and I also enjoy Geoff Castellucci the bass and founding member of the Acapella group VoicePlay. Who also did great cover of this song. Everything is better when you make it bass.
I feel like you just have a chip on your shoulder towards disturbed. Disturbed is awesome. I’m sorry you don’t appreciate it. It’s way better than the original. He won a Grammy for that performance. I don’t like you
Tell me this. At what point did I say this was a bad performance? Can you find the moment in the video for me? Oh wait, you can’t because I never said that?! Oh okay, maybe shut the fuck up then
@@markabusireactions cute. Listen to the song . Really listen, not just to the voice but the music and the lyrics and the combination of all together. You can tell when there is a pause that's a good spot to stop at. I'm sure you go back and listen again off camera. But I would love to see your reaction with less interruption. It seems more organic. You are right and it's your channel, do it how you like. I meant no insult, more of a suggestion.
Your recording sounds almost like mono stereo, not much sound from the left speaker. So I couldn't continue to watch. Not so much of a criticism but more of fyi
Yes, so, I got a new microphone for recording my album, which goes in through an audio interface and records in mono. At the start, I kept forgetting that in the editing I had to double track to make it stereo, there’s a few videos from around this time with the same issue. It’s been fixed since!
This is a classic "don't judge a book by it's cover" situation. David has immense vocal ability. This is one of the best covers ever done!
In interviews, Paul Simon has said this version is how the song was intended to be sung and it was now Disturbed’s. He even put a link to it on his own website. Check out the official video. It now has over 1 billion views. This is a masterpiece.
He was so sick when he did this performance that in it's self tells you what a vocalist he is. He has a God given gift and no one can deny it.

David Draiman... one of the best male vocalists on the planet imo. This is a masterpiece!
He was very sick when he sang this on Conan. And he was classically trained.
He was down with the sickness
You might want to check out the official video for this cover, the visuals add so much to it
IMO....this is the best cover EVER

Paul Simon loved this Version so much that he added it to his Paly List!

very honest and intelligent comment. I agree.

Came for the song. I am not a fan of Disturbed in general, but in love with his voice when he sings like this.

just FYI Paul Simon complimented him on this.. the only one ever..
Speaking of covers that totally eclipse the original, check out John Farnham live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra doing the Beatles song “Help”.
yes he is classically trained

David Dramen is one of the best singers of all time

The comparison to Dimash is fair. Songs being performed more than felt
Sometimes silence is the best answer .. .
Cool

Ah fuck. I was just about to go to bed, but there’s no way I’m sleeping tonight now 😂
I didn't like Disturbs music until I bought a really nice stereo.
You can't even carry on a conversation without added adjectives. People do that when their not intelligent enough to converse.
Tell me this. At what point did I say this was a bad performance? Can you find the moment in the video for me? Oh wait, you can’t because I never said that?! Oh okay, maybe shut the fuck up then
why have a reaction channel when you just made up your mind to hate a band and project that
That’s weird, I could have sworn I said this was pretty good… why watch a reaction channel if you’re not gonna listen to what the reactor is saying?
You are interrupting way too much .
@@cerscil oh I’m sorry for talking on my own channel…

I don't think your mike is working can't hear you
I only hear sound on the left side
Bollocks, I’ve recorded it in mono again, I’m gonna need to fix that…

You need to revisit Disturbed. And you talk too much.
If you wanted to only hear Disturbed, go to Spotify. This is MY channel, the videos are about ME.
