60 Second Tech Tip #25

- Here is a quick look at an issue I found while performing a new Gas Furnace start up. This unit was converted to LP from Natural Gas. This requires a conversion kit that consists of many different components depending on the specific application. While doing a visual inspection prior to start up I noticed that everything had been installed with the exception of the mixing screws in the burners. These screws are required on 80% furnace LP conversions to help mix the LP and air as it enters the burners for better combustion. I decided to cycle the furnace without these mixing screws to show how the unit fires with and without them in the event you ever come across this. Yet another reason why reading instructions and double checking things is so important. Hope this helps and stay tuned for more!

Thanks for the education!
Good video ! Again , People Not taking the time to Read installation instructions. ( Ftngot ) Allways Read the Paperwork at the Very Least , Quickly , To see any changes in Installation procedures. our industry is ALLWAYS Changing. i Have Learned Alot from paperwork included with everything from Txv's to Evaporators / Furnaces. Allways Read / Peruse the Paperwork. Once You start reading all the stuff that comes with stuff , you will recognize the Stuff you have seen before & Then Recognize the New info. installation instructions are There to make your Life easier. take the few minutes , its worth it ! This is Coming from a guy thats been doing this for 38 years.
I've done quite a few of these conversions and have never seen mixing screws before
You certainly should be if you are converting 80% Carrier/Bryant furnaces to LP
@@HVACinSC not very many of those in my area, especially in the areas that use propane. Definately something I'll keep an eye out for. Good tip thanks.
@@billj4859 No problem! I dont recall this requirement on older stuff but definitely on the 80% over the last 5 years. Maybe longer.
Good info. Gas is becoming more and more common around our area man.
Great video as always
NICE 👌🏾
Are these mixing screws for newer designs? I have only done a few conversions (gas valve spring/nozzles) but don't recall seeing these in a kit. Thanks for sharing.
