Niandras videos taught me how to Mercy Super Jump back in OW1 and its always a joy when one of their videos pops up on my recommended, love seeing them here 💪
What got me into Overwatch was the first 5 animated shorts. Now I still play casually and low level comp but I think Overwatch has lost its heart and soul, every once in a while I get a glimmer of hope but then realise it’s just a relic from a discontinued story. I really hope that after a while they go back to the story and make a full campaign that I won’t have to play £500 to play it all
Same. Blizzard always built such interesting worlds and characters. But for some reason they can't seem to understand that's the heart of what made them. I really just want to see more cool stuff with these characters.
The point he's trying to make is that Niandra doesn't focus on common community talking points like balance, 5v5 vs. 6v6, etc. but instead they stay in their lane of Mercy tips/tricks and random Overwatch trivia. Being GM doesn't mean they are part of the competitive scene, or have significant opinions on that front (they broadly don't, and only talk balance from the lens of Mercy).
Her talking about a character killed in story and being retired in game reminded me of League long long ago. There was an animation where Gangplank dies. Literally, he dies. And what they did, was they disabled him in game. Gangplank died in the story, and you could no longer play him in game. It even said the reason was because he was dead! In the end, in the story it turned out he faked his death and he was brought back in game - (I believe this is when his rework happened, too) but it was so cool to see him “die” in the story and for him to ACTUALLY DISAPPEAR FROM THE GAME
@@PurpleMoon799 Yeah, Overwatch is too competitive-focused. I believe Gangplank's "death" disabled him in Ranked in League too, but this was waaaaay long ago, back before League was massively popular in esports I believe. With Overwatch's active esports presence, disabling a potential counter-pick or lynchpin would be devastating, but to disable a character only in unranked would be kinda sad.
while this sounds cool and hell I'd like it there is a big problem. how cool would this still be if you say, spent money on a skin for said character and then let's say this happens the next day. Most games wouldn't refund you the money and just say "sucks to suck". how cool would it be then?
@@demon-hunter1498 Nobody cared? Literally, nobody cared. It was a limited-time event, almost everyone knew a rework was coming (at least anyone it was relevant to i.e. ranked players), it was just a cool nod to the story that they didn't have to do, but was cool. Literally, nobody cared that he was disabled outside of "Wait, he's DEAD!?" The problem you're describing only applies if they went "haha the character's gone, your skins are worthless now", but they didn't do that. He was disabled for all of, like, a week at most iirc. After that he was back, with rework, and all the skins even got new designs as is the case with all the reworks that come with model updates. Frankly if you get mad at a character getting disabled right after you buy a skin, that's a you problem bud, shit happens.
9:26 I have said this for MONTHS. They can make 5v5 balance work, but to do so, they would need to make Overwatch into something it just isn't. They have to change the very fundamental of the game, and that change isn't what people started playing for.
I personally think it would remove a lot of counters by removing all the exceptions to mitigation: ram punch through shield, beams through deflect, matrix matrix among other things. This would make counter swapping not be nearly as effective because it would mean that you would actually have to outplay your opponent in a way only available to the counter instead of just inherently bypassing what the enemy can do because of that counter character's abilities
@@user-rg9co7dk2r imagine you can just counter them by killing them instead of shooting into matrix/shield and getting through more than half of your clip praying their support make an oopsie or something
@@user-rg9co7dk2r That's a terrible idea. The reason counters are chosen is because mitigation isn't in any way interesting to play against. They should remove mitigation, and focus on giving characters performance based escapes instead. So if DVA does better her jets charge faster, instead of pressing a button and having nobody able to shoot her.
I been saying this for years. It's a philosophy and design overhaul that Blizz has stated multiple times in various ways they *don't* want to do. But they still went halfway through commitment for a format, so all its flaws are going to be felt several-fold.
@@YourBlackLocal Firstly, mitigation is a form of resource, resources are the things tanks and supports can provide to the rest of the team to enable them to do stuff. Removing mitigation would lower the skill of the game as there would be less variety and potential teamwork possible due to less resources to funnel into different places/ people, making it even lower than from the switch from 2 to 1 tanks, and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure the game you want to play is overwatch or just team death match if you want to remove mitigation Secondly, The reason that I think mitigation negation should be removed is because they are inherent counters that don't stem from outplaying but happenstance of the characters being played... E.g DVA and zarya, instead of punishing a mistake the enemy dva made (potentially one you forced her to make by playing better) pushing her out of position, getting her to use up her DM to rectify this before then punishing her and damaging ,if not killing her once you've depleated her DM, you just got to shoot through DM and dmg her because you're some laser hero. Instead of forcing a mistake out of the enemy rein and then either surrounding him or breaking through his shield by forcing its overuse before damaging and killing rein, you just punched through his shield because you're ram Notice how the characters just have inherent advantages which are not obtained through outplaying your opponent but simply through your character just being able to do that. If these inherent advantages were removed, it would significantly reduce counter swapping because it would mean that to counter your opponent you'd have to pick a character who can be played in a way which bypasses the opponent, Hence making the skill required to counter swap significantly higher because you'd actually have to understand how the characters interact and how to outplay your opponent on the counter and not just have an ability that just automatically does that. This would also reduce the necessity of counter swapping because if you come out of spawn pre countered, you still have the opportunity, if not power to beat the counter given you outplay them.
32:12 yes it has lost its vision. Overwatch's dev team has no true, long-term vision for Overwatch apart from "let's make a new hero with a new type of gunplay or ability that is unique. we'll just slap together a backstory that somehow magically shoehorns into the existing 'lore'." That is ACTUALLY how they develop this game. It's done on the fly, not in service of some larger vision that pulls the franchise forward. It's a sad state of affairs, but to be fair it's been this way for years, ever since... you know who... left us. Speaking of which, there is someone who has (had?) a vision for Overwatch. Y'all gonna flame me for saying this, but... ... Papa Jeff Kaplan. He is the man who had the vision. He is the Chris Metzen (the guy who basically made Warcraft) of Overwatch. And he left us years ago. This. Is. Why. I. Doomed. So. Hard. About. Jeff. Leaving.
yea, i kinda feel like this alot. After all the stories of being too limited from not enough staff, or big daddy Bobby is holding us back. At the end we'll just left with Aaron, we might be approaching the "I think its time to fire Aaron"
Jeff’s vision was focusing on turning OW back into a MOBA essentially. And move towards the project they originally failed on with Titan (game that failed than become OW). So not everything they were doing then was the best, since it didn’t work out.
I’m pretty sure the goal is to make a competitive multiplayer game that people want to play. At the current moment, they’re raking in the dough from going F2P and selling cosmetics. From a business standpoint, Blizzard is probably really happy with their products. The community however, is divided on what they want and some of us are always going to be mad. For example, I wouldn’t even care if any of the heroes had backstories, and I personally only found out last week that Tracer was a lesbian. I had zero interest in PVE and was actually relieved when they canned it and went back to focus on PVP, because that’s the only mode I care about. The only thing I care about is my Queues times and Rank. Remember, that your problems, aren’t always everyone else’s problem. I think the vision is right on track for what I get out of the game.
that Ilaria headshot thingy is so hilarious 😂 symptom of a revolving door working place is no one stays so long to know the intricacies that breaks the game.
Most people knew about it and it doesn't matter because she only did 1.5 multiplier. KarQ did a video on in when the patch came out for headshot damage.
8:45 the Paladins balance philosophy if everything is op then nothing it's op. It lets everybody in a match have that hero moment. But the OW devs are too afraid of doing that so in every role you can get matches where you never get that hero moment
Why would you ever even TRY to copy the balane strategy of a game that is LITTERALLY on life support, they have massively pulled funding for it cause it is fucking dead lol. Esports and comp games needs proper balancing, its just OW never knew how to fire their whole dev team and get a good one that could listen to the high tier players feedback, thats why we had brig be op for 2 years and more, that is hilariously bad...
@bailly1998 Paladins is the only "Overwatch clone" that has survived over the years. Every other game in this genre OverWatch has killed all except paladins because the core of paladins is really good Not even OverWatch survived. They're on the second one and paladins is still going
@@specracer28 "survived" ? TF2 is the inspiration of all the games and has 10x the numbers of paladins. Paladins litterally has never had fewer players reaching barely 3k avg and 5k peak now. It is beyond dead. Overwatch did survive you dumb*ss, are you fucking dense lmao, the second game didnt cost any money, it was free, everyone got upgraded to OW2. Like how dumb are you ? Even though the vast majority plays on BNET for OW, it still has 10x the player numbers of paladins on steam. Like you cant be that much of a delusional fanboy ?
Niandra is one of the best creators in OW when it comes to making great arguments that are well thought out and fair. I will always listen to her takes because her opinion is worth hearing.
Flats thanks for enabling the pop out video feature for us iOS users 😂 I refuse to pay for RUclips premium. It’s nice to be able to multitask as I watch
Always hated seeing so many content creators praising the decision to cancel PVE for the PVP. Was such a short term “win” because without a story mode, the game couldn’t evolve or grow in the mainstream.
@XaviGMR I've heard people say "well if someone dies in the lore then it would be weird to have them in the game still"... no the law and the game can be two separate entities. The lore and world draws people in.. when was the last time you heard blizz say "the world could use more heros"
I’m pretty sure by the Overwatch team not “officially” canceling PvE, Niandra just meant that there wasn’t an official statement in like a blog post or something outright announcing it. If there was, I forgor and I’m dumb and correct me.
I've just learned to "spycheck" with how much I've played TF2, if you're a character with any sort of automatic or spray weapon just give areas a wipe down with bullets and oftentimes I've been able to catch out Sombras
Wow that was such a great watch. I honestly agreed with mostly every point that was made. It's so refreshing to see this kind of content being created and thank you for going over it!
I don’t think the game is good anymore. Most lobbies are silent, with the only communication being trash talking teammates via text chat. I hate to admit it, but I only play now because I’m stuck chasing after the highs of year 1 o.g overwatch
Blizzard addiction cycle. You desire a game that doesn't exist anymore. Overwatch will never be that game again. If they wanted to make it that. They'd have done so already. Don't give them your time if it makes you miserable. They buffed the shit out of tanks probably because the role was experiencing enough of a deficit that it risked the game being unplayable. If everyone who felt awful playing it simply left. They'd either immediately flip back to 6v6 and bring all the stats from the end of Overwatch one as a total reset or the game will finally die the death its deserved.
The problem is their balance system doesn't work. They treat every hero in a role the same and balance the same, especially with the passives. Take Tanks. The boop resistance being the same for all of them is stupid. Dive tanks really shouldn't have the same resistance as immobile ones as knockbacks don't hurt them as badly. KB a Winstonor Ball? Oh here he comes jumping back in again even from off a cliff. Do it to Rein though and he is just gone so needs the resist more.
I am agree with some tank like dive shouldn't have knockbacks resistance while others ones do. I think adding condition to that resistance only works if they are on ground. that would works on dive who on air mobile while other tanks those always on the ground.
I do like seeing the micro rules getting mentioned and as im starting to see people equate it to modern Yu-Gi-Oh. Some characters have abilities that have simple explanations but dont work or behave abnormally in certain circumstances that are never really explained in the game itself. It leaves things feeling muggy and difficult to understand what's exactly happening in these moments.
@@user-qt4xn9dc2pCarts also don't block it. Carts are actually super janky with LOS stuff. Venture ult, Rein ult, Sigma ult, mercy beam, etc. aren't blocked by it, But for some reason Ram Ult, Illari pylon, DVa bomb, zen's orbs, and even Brig's inspire, among other abilities, sometimes care about breaking LOS with cart. Not always, but in specific situations it does (ie cart being angled on a hill or specific geometry of the different cart models). The cart's interactions with different abilities is wildly inconsistent, even with the same ability from different angles. It's not even clear if the underside of carts are solid or not. For example, Widow and Cassidy can shoot underneath it with no issue, but DVa bomb hitboxes and Doomfist Ult shockwaves don't travel underneath the floating carts. That's despite Rein's shatter and Ventures ult (both shockwaves) being able pass under cart. In fact, some ground based abilities, like Sigma ult or Mei's blizzard, will still hit people standing on top of the cart despite them having no contact with the ground. The game never mentions any of these slightly different interactions.
@@albinofroggy does mercy beam los actually not get broken by cart? that's weird the other stuff makes sense since it goes under the cart since they're ground based things (just like how if you have an angle you can shoot at people's feet if they're behind the cart)
@@fiona9891 It seems my comment got auto-modded by the yt bot, but as far as I'm aware the beam is unaffected. Correct me if I'm wrong. I've never personally had it disconnect because of cart so I guess on that front I'm assuming based on experience. But I have had zen orbs disconnect many times. It's also not consistent what can and can't go "under" cart. DVa bomb can not. Doom ult shockwaves can not. Rein earth shatter shockwaves can. Venture's ult shockwaves can and they can even hit people standing on top of the cart if the shockwaves go under. Sig and Mei ult ignore the cart entirely. I have absolutely no idea if Orisa ult shockwave does or does not. It legitimately could go either way. Kitsune Rush will stop if it hits cart, but people standing on top of the cart are still given the buff. Zen ult is unaffected by cart, but EMP seems to be. Lucio's aura is unaffected by cart, but his beat can sometimes be blocked by cart LOS, despite it being a "shockwave" when he slams the ground. (I have 200 hours in Lucio, he's my main, and I legitimately have 0 clue why it has this random almost pseudo-luck chance in very specific circumstances.) Pharah's boop can hit the ground on one side and affect people on the other side of cart . Ashe's dynamite (when on the ground) can not do that. Lifeweaver Tree completely ignores cart. Wrecking Ball's slam does not ignore cart sometimes (hills mess with it). If cart passes over Ramatra's vortex people on the cart can be hit. If cart goes over an active roadhog trap people on the cart are fine. It's a lot of things that make sense when you are actively looking at the game and have been putting in the hours. But to a new player who doesn't know what 100+ different abilities do and what passives different heroes or roles have it might as well be random. And it's very likely I have incorrectly assumed something from my time playing that I've listed here. Which is just further testament to how poorly it is conveyed to the player. I am nearing on 800 hours after my time in OW1 and coming back to OW2 last year and there's another dozen interactions that I legitimately have no idea how they interact with cart.
The DPS passive is a huge offender for this. I wish there was some indicator on your ally if they have it active. Sometimes it's literally not worth trying to save someone that has it on them but you don't know until you start trying to heal them and their health bar just doesn't move.
i mean i think its pretty sick with Venture and Juno - that the Voice Actors read the comics on the YT Channel! its just such a small thing but it feels good to present the comics!
yeah Im alsways too lazy to read the comics, even though they're short... but I'm an overwatch player, you can't expect a decent attention span from me lol
8:30 the deadlock thing broke me so mutch man. Its like "huh!? What do you mean the game is balanced? And alll characters are viable?! I never heard that before" its not really like this, but it is still really funny to me
"Games cant survive without skin sales or battlepass" Didnt take long for companies to make consumers believe that. Not every company has people that take more money out a year, than the entire team salary combined.
Niandra the GOAT OW2 is such a shell of what Ow 2016 used to be. Every season just feels more miserable to play,i only pop in to the game now whenever friends and i just dont know what to do for the day. And with all the new Multiplayer games coming out,OW just looks so barebones in comparison. I dont wanna play only 4 main QP modes on a handful of maps man
every time I see someone bringing up 6v6 I remember this quote from Flats Last overwatch 1 duo video and it was: "You know we’re gonna look back at this in 6 months or a year and we’re gonna be like, ‘holy shit, we miss those days,’ and I’m gonna need this VOD to remember it and be like, ‘no we didn’t.’" ~ Flats
After reading the 6v6 devblog I expect the 6v6 test to come with some form of flex queue to avoid the 2:2:2 queue time issues and return to in-session role flexing. The result will then most times be 1-2 more DPS in each session, it won't force 2 tanks per session. But it would be possible to have 2 tanks and people may choose to swap in/out of tank mid game to switch tactics and break down the enemy team's plays.
Their video is a great example of how mercy is not a low skill hero. I don't play mercy so this isn't me trying to cope, I SUCK at mercy. The movement tech used in this video is impressive and I never pull that crap off well enough to bother taking it into a game, but it is hard to deny that it doesn't take skill and practice to pull it off that smoothly and consistently. The ease at which they just happen across a health pack when needed while also moving for 5 other reasons is top tier. I was less impressed with the winston play, not because it wasn't good, but because he is my strongest tank by far and that computes in my brain much easier ;)
I actually really agree with their points on cosmetics; I started playing in season 6 and loved the Ana mythic, but every theme has been so… stale, since. I fall into the “cutesy e-girl” category, I play my cute supports, I buy my cute skins, I’m on a pink keyboard. For the themes to have gone from cool robots to edgy Halloween to monster hunter to even edgier Halloween to Mirrorwatch (which was sick btw) to sentai to Egypt as just kinda… boring? I’m praying this year’s Halloween season is the magical girl theme and they give Kiri her first battle pass skin in a year because otherwise I’m kinda lost. Every major skin theme is made to be cool. I’ve been saying this since season 10, Vengeance is a great legendary skin, but it’s a waste of Mercy’s mythic. It also sucks being a Kiri/Mercy main, so when my characters inevitably get skins because they’re popular, I can’t criticize them not being for me, since they got the skins instead of Torb or Venture or Rein. Like yeah, Oni is cool, but we just got Hashimoto two seasons ago, which fits the same vibes (and should have been an epic), I’d love a stereotypical jpop idol (the Le Sserafim skins are all really cute but different vibes because stan vs idol, and different cultures obviously) or magical girl skin. I loved the wedding set shown in the last survey, but there was another set of gods that just look like they slapped the Queen mythic on everyone else, and another batch of black white and red vampire skins. I’m rambling, but I definitely think striking a balance between cute and cool skins would be huge, because cutesy skin wanters are absolutely STARVING, and have been almost my entire tenure with the game.
Im not sure why they are focused on edgey mythical skins either. I mean the artstyle for 1 doesnt really work for it and 2 the entire player base is probably one of the most queer out of any other player base that isnt like Minecraft of DbD. Overwatches artstyle is generally cutesy as it is, playing into that would be great. My issue with the skins is the fact it costs an entire Overwatch 1 for 1 skin and "themes" arent really "themes" they are a collection of 4 skins spread over the shop, events and the Battlepass. I would love it if the Battlepass was 2 conflicting themes rather than 1 small theme with random skins mixed in for shits and giggles. Allow me to by the theme instead of just the occasional skin. Weapon skins are fine, but again, 1 skin costs an Overwatch 1 and would still be overpriced if you bought the skins "theme" for everyones weapon in the game.
@@scotttimbrell8632 tbh I think other than Ashe being the one sentai villain of the pass and the egregious example of Mercy, most of the mythics have been fine. People would complain if the big skin of the season was “e girl bait”, especially before prisms, so I kind of get going for a cool vibe on the mythics, but they’ve struck a good balance on some like Kiri and Tracer, Amaterasu is probably my favorite skin in the game. I agree with pricing being absurd but I don’t feel like delving into that one In terms of theme cohesion I also agree, this BP for example, the Ashe skin is cute but has nothing to do with the greater theme, and Lucio got what looks like a day 1 OW1 epic in the pass while Bap is in the bundle and Rein is in the shop on a completely unrelated and frankly boring theme More theme cohesion in the BP instead of filler would be great, especially in an instance like this Lucio skin. Lucio’s not unpopular and the skin will sell, they aren’t losing as much money as they think by selling a Polar bundle and putting Oni Kiri at level 70, for example, 90% of my BP skins are rotting because it’s chaff for characters I don’t play, and characters I do play get nothing because I play popular characters I also think they need more skins for said popular characters in the BPs, better diversity would be nice. They’re not adverse to putting popular characters in, that’s why Lucio and Illari get BP skins every season, but my top 3 most played (Kiri Mercy Dva) have gotten a combined 0 BP skins since I started, 1 if you count the Mercy mythic, which I actually don’t yet have because of getting Amaterasu that season, I only bought seasons 7, 10, and 12’s BPs, and 10 and 12 were off of free coins, because there’s just no skins that interest me. I know they’re breadwinners but ONE accessible Kiri skin isn’t going to hurt anyone. Outside of Visual Kei in a Gamepass bundle and her gallery skins, I’ve had to pay full skin price for every Kiri skin I’ve gotten, I know it obviously works to get them bank but throwing us ONE bone wouldn’t lose them that much profit Idk, rambling again Cute skins fit the game better while edgy skins fit the vocal part of the fanbase, edgy sells easier, and they should make skins for popular characters a little more accessible
@@Taylorperchasemccarthy I think Tracer, Kiri, Moria and JQ have had the best out of the Mythics, but Orisia wasnt mentioned in the bad ones? Come on now, its a redone Leg skin xd. But are you telling me you didnt want to buy the £30 kiri cosplay skin? wowowow shocker that. xd

I don't want more cutsey skins all the girl characters get spoiled anyway imagine adding more femenine content all the girls would get even more spoiled they need to give more attention to characters like junkrat
In relation to the part about character removal: in League of Legends, there was a character who was "life ended" (not sure if I can say the proper word because RUclips) during an event and while his portrait was still there, he was not selectable. That's because he comes back later on in the story of the event qith a new rework. Blizzard could do this exact same thing. Example: Reaper goes on a solo mission and goes missing, so we can't play him until mission complete. When Reaper finally come back from completing his mission, somwthing has changed him so now his kit is different. Or am I crazy? EDIT: Spelling error and some clarity
That would be good, I know what you mean, GP has almost died like 3 times by now. That said, they never straight up kill a character forever (Except for Urf), they always come back one way or another or they just never die because they have a plot armor. If a character ever died in lore, it wouldn't make sense gameplay wise, but then again, who cares about the gameplay when Talon and Overwatch agents are working together.
League of legends did kill gangplank, disable him for a few days, and then reworked him completely into a ghost pirate design. It can be done! I also think games start failing because game devs are too scared to delete things. Too scared to remove problems in the game because some people won't be happy. Guess what?! The skins all go away when you shut down the game anyway. Just make the game better NOW. Refund the skins if you have to into currency.
Gp isn't a ghost, what are you saying. Anyway, there are other examples of deleted stuff from Riot, like old Aatrox, old Urgot and a bunch of mechanics in various characters kits that got removed that were unique.
My myself I would LOVE a genji and hanzo animated show, this could also help them maybe fix the kiriko fumble with some kind of time shenanigans (time travel has happened before)
in regards to 5v5 v 6v6 the reason the call for return to 6v6 gets loader and loader each season is because each season the devs make a change to the format that shows they have no clue how to balance 5v5
Overwatch 2 is really great now!!! I don't remember the last time when I selected "all roles" and got dmg a couple times in row. So refreshing and cool! And if you select damage, the search time is the same :0
I haven’t seen any of the deadlock videos, but as someone who played a bit of deadlock and is familiar with Valve’s Dota2. It has this design philosophie which works surprisingly well that ‘if everything is overpowered, nothing is’. Yes some heroes are clearly better than others, and the pool is very different, but it makes everything have potential to be satisfying. Also items I guess.

I do agree with the point about institutional knowledge (i.e. the people who made the mistake the first time aren't there any more to stop the team from making the mistake a second time). But I would never underestimate a balance designer's ability to forget the recent past. In the era of SC2 where David Kim was the head of balance design, they would constantly buff something, then nerf it, then buff it again. And not even like tuning it, just switching the numbers back and forth. "Mutas are too strong in ZvZ so we're nerfing mutas." "Mutas are too weak in all matchups so we're buffing mutas." "Mutas are too strong in ZvZ so we're nerfing mutas." "Mutas are too weak..." The community the whole time is screaming "The reason mutas, when strong, are too strong in ZvZ is because Zerg has no good anti air! So it has to be muta v. muta! Buff the hydralisk!" Eventually the team goes "We realize part of the reason mutas are volatile in ZvZ is due to a lack of Zerg anti air. So we're buffing the spore crawler [the zerg anti air static defense]. But so that it doesn't effect other matchups it will be +8 dmg vs. Biological." ^-- Which is also an example of one of their weird exceptions. The spore crawler ONLY does extra damage against zerg flying units. But if they ever wanted to add a big flying Archon for Protoss or a guy in a jetpack for terran, they wouldn't be able to now because of this weird exception. Also eventually they did buff the Hydralisk because duh zerg needed a decent form of ground-to-air damage.
oh man im so happy someone addressed the inconsistencies in the balance of the game, in OW1 it seemed like there was specific breakpoints and heroes fit into now it feels like everyone gets their own balance rules and breakpoints and theres no consistency
The soft relaunch of the IP would benefit everyone. With a proper focus, the changes and direction have less variance, therefore less chaotic releases. Plus then a reset of expectations. This would naturally improve quality.
I just don’t want to feel like it is pointless to invest in a Live Service game. Also, if at some point there won’t be enough players to make playing thru this chaos of a game, what was me spending $40 dollars on a skin I will barely get to play in.
imo i think the only ow issue right now is tank. they need to find a way to make tank feel good, while not making them feel TOO overpowered. and the game will practically be fixed. besides the stuff you can't really control like lore team being fired and stuff. some changes id like to see personally: complete removal of tank passive, new passive: 50% ult charge reduction, consecutive stuns, boop distance, and status effect duration are halved each time they are consecutively used after one another on a 3 second interval. crit multiplier damage is dealt DoT, so tanks take the first half in burst, then what would be the Crit in "burn damage" removes the frustration of being stunlocked and focus fired with effects, while not feeling overbearing to face against. next, revert the 10 damage blocking armor. instead, give all armored tanks half armor half hp. lastly, a new tank passive: enemy heros who swap to a new hero COMPLETELY negates ult charge given from shooting tanks for 15 seconds. you can counter swap, but it punishes you for doing so in a way that isn't completely intrusive but is definitely impactful.
My biggest personal reason for supporting 6v6 is that I think it’s fundamentally easier to balance than 5v5, at least for tanks, and can lead to a healthier experience for the role. But I can see why the current hero pool could very easily spiral out of control. A tank doom with a Zarya for bubbles or even a diving partner like Dva would be hell if they didn’t tweak it properly. But then how would they adjust him? Could they revert him back to his DPS version? Probably not, because despite CC creeping back in, it isn’t nearly as powerful or prominent so even a decent doom would likely get immense value. Ultimately, I think they should experiment with it (which is what they’re doing). Bring back the experimental mode with a fully fleshed out and revamped 6v6 mode for people to try. Don’t even limit it to a weekend or just a week, let it marinate for weeks, maybe even a month or two. Update it every other week while it’s up. See if it really is the “salvation” people think it is
There’s no such thing as a “healthy tank experience.” People hated tank then, just like they hate it now. I personally became a tank player because no one wanted to play it. I use to be a dps player, and I’m sure most other tank players have the same backstory. If Blizzard was smart, they’d just let the 6v6 crowd funnel out, while they get replaced by F2P players that never played 6v6. Instead, Blizzard is going to waste resources on a format that DPS players forgot they hated.
@@nycempirestate4689 I disagree, people didnt hate tank then as much as they hate tank now. People hated THIER tanks then more than they hate their tank now though. As an overwatch 1 tank player, Tanks were by far the most interesting role with the most interactions within the game, when you contrast the teamplay, the combos, the interactions, the Cooldown usage ect with overwatch 2 which is, get ganged up on by 4 people constantly, eat 10 second cooldowns every second which come back up by the time its done, from your death leading to the entire team crumbling because you were cc'd constantly or knocked out of the map ect it becomes blatantly obvious why people are calling for 6v6 back.
@scotttimbrell8632 Tank now is 10x more fun than it was back then. They literally had to bribe tank players with currency and lootboxes to queue for the role lmao

I haven't played overwatch much since it became overwatch 2. But the ONLY thing I missed about 6v6 is duoing tank with my friend. Since 5v5 I kind of stopped playing tank since I don't enjoy it anymore.
I love the designs of the heroes but I hate how they try to pepper in the “lore” and reason why they are in the game to begin with. JQ, Ram, and Mauga, I was fine with as they tie into the world of Overwatch. Venture just seemed out of place to me. Mainly because of the no origin trailer, but also just the design and “backstory” for them. Like tf? They’re an explorer, ok got it. And here’s how this whole story goes: How does this tie into the Overwatch lore exactly? Anubis. Really? Ok, so what’s it about? No answer.
the comic kinda explained bc talon is after artifacts and venture fights against talon in protection of artifacts. but even then it could be better weaved into the story.. feels like venture is generally ignored alot. kiriko is another character that feels very loosely and insecurely connected to the lore esp considering the age dilemma.
Another issue with lore is that they just treat it as a malleable material... Kiriko is the obvious example, but look at Genji and Mercy... the new head of whatever has come out and said they support pharmercy, so that's what they're doing. They ignore years of character byilding/development just because they have their own personal fanfic in their head
31:20 I feel like an anthology series style like love death robots would be really cool to see in the overwatch universe. Not everything would have to be connected or linear in that sense while touching on multiple bases and characters.
Massive minority here. Personally I've enjoyed 5v5 more than 6v6, for me, the game is more fun than it ever has been in the past. I've been playing since 2016.
@@yuhhbaby3179 It's hard to pinpoint exactly why but if I had to pick 2 main reasons id say that..... 1. I feel like my plays as an individual matter a lot more in 5v5. I have a lot more freedom in a fight to try and go for my own plays and I feel like there is more carry potential. Getting kills generally feels easier yet more rewarding since 1 kill matters more with less players on a team. 2. I like the pace of the game better. 6v6 Always felt slow to me, and it felt like often times fights took FOREVER to resolve. I was worried when 5v5 first came out, about the pace being TOO fast but I quickly lost that worry and ended up finding the faster pace much more enjoyable. Now the only time I feel like fights last a long time is when both teams are very evenly matched and at that point I don't even notice because I'm just having fun trying to win.
29:14 I was also one of the people who really wanted it...I wish pve wasn't scrapped, it's why I came back, but I get it at this point, it's gone, and yeah pvp hasn't gotten that much better since scrapped pve lmao. We're literally trying 6v6 at some point even now.
I love “the state of [game]” videos. Taking all of the game as a whole and analyzing it, pointing out flaws and strengths with recent changes and the health overall.
I’ve had it happen quite a few times where I have someone with me who is trying the game for the very first time. And there is just sooo much you just have to know just to be actually useful in a match that most of them just tried it and never came back
Hopefully this educates everyone, including the creator being watched. There is literally a mathematical equation that you can run to find the best price point for skins to make the most money. Sometimes that means raising the price. This means the amount of people buying it outweighs the loss of your sale. If more people bought the skin at lower prices, they would lower the price.
Tank is a lot like Support, in which its needed, but not as popular as the Damage role. Part of that is due to having more damage heroes in the game to start, than tank and support combined. Part of that is due to advertising the game as a first person shooter. Part of that is the nature of gamers, similar to MOBAs and MMOs, people dont really enjoy those roles, as they feel like playing babysitter. Part of it is the pressure, while there is pressure on the damage role to get picks, there is also pressure on the tanks and supports to have an answer for everything that can go wrong. That last one is often what leads to the main reason people don't play support or tank, toxicity. So many people think its the responsibility of the tank and support to prevent deaths or damage, when most of that responsibility is on the individual player themself. Tanks and supports have jobs for sure, and they have tools for helping their team, but their job isn't to protect players from the consequences of their own mistakes. Sometimes you can save someone, depending on the situation, but so often to people play with their brain turned off, only to flame their teammates for not carrying their dumbass to victory. I love tank, I have only sighed more recently when playing perma-tank. I wish for 6v6 to return for tank synergy to return, and to see support and tank get more wiggle room. I just hope they peel back a lot these HP increases and role passives; because those things make the damage role feel frustrating and useless.
Arcane was crazy expensive, with reasonable cost estimates at about 9-10 MILLION per episode, and Riot was literally tripping over itself to get a second season. It made them that much profit. The original OW cinematics have a combined hundreds of millions of views. That blizzard is sleeping on this so hard is sooooo dumb. The casual gamer, Flats, does not spend 20 bucks on a skin though. Also i laughed at 43:04 when the french dude in OW2 chat basically went: "f*ck your mom, you" and I'm like: "jup that's OW2"
its really not a minority on the cosmetic monetization its easier to put 10-15$ into a game for a skin than fucking 40-100 which is the current prices in CDN for skins.
Ohh quick note to the "spear heads of format" there is someone on both sides. While true Samito is the 6v6er, Fredo is the same for 5v5. Both would die on any hill they are talking about it.
8:20 that is the policy of the dota balancing. if everyone is op, than everything is viable. i think that this is a better balancing method than what lol does which is: new hero op, old hero rework op, everything else somewhat playable (under specific circumstances). i havn't played overwatch 2 since it came out so i cant say how the balancing works there, but when i saw my daddy hanzo only dealing 195 with a headshot i died a little inside.
I quit overwatch for like 8 months now im coming back and its weird to relearn the meta. I like venture and juno and i higly aprove the auto heal to every charecter after a limited time
it's a bit of a bummer the larger OW community is somewhat unaware of Niandra - unless you're a Mercy one trick. Niandra has been around forever and deserves way more credit.
Casual here, I noticed that I’m kinda in the group where I think the season is good based on the season. I still think it depends on the meta ofc but like if there’s nothing I want to get, why should I focus most of time on it? (Remember I’m casual). So when that’s the case i just play it every now and then when I feel like it
I really think that they should make each patch designed around a set of heroes being powerful, instead of striving for perfect balance. Doing big changes for rein and dva for 1 patch, and then reverting it and then giving sigma and monkey the strength another. Or adding core changes like hit boxes movement speed, health, armor, shields. Some patches rewards great aim, others make AOE strong. If it’s not balance at least it would shake up the matches and make it so the same comps don’t keep popping up season to season
IDK if this is a stupid idea but what if overwatch came back with the loot boxes in a different configuration, like putting it together into the prestige battle pass name cards, for when you play pass the battle pass itself you win some loot boxes who could have older skins or even skins only obtainable by new lootboxes. Would it be viable?
23:44 Hoo boy, wait until she sees the Zarya battlepass level 40 skin this battlepass. To be honest, I'm not sure how they AREN'T selling this battlepass because people are jut busting down the doors to get this banger of a Zarya skin. /s obviously.
I'd say have OW2 pvp be its thing where it doesn't have to heavily adhere to the cannon. And have OW: The one with the plot and story. Tell the newly retconed and more accurately fleshed out cannon. Give it the whole Realm reborn treatment and wipe it clean. Use the same building blocks just stacked with a more solid foundation.
Idea for the story: Anubis AI breaches containment. We already know Ramattra thinks the Anubis AI should've been destroyed. Rather than pretend the omnic revolution didn't/isn't happening, introduce a greater a threat that forces previous enemies to work together. If Anubis AI is big and scary enough, Overwatch, Talon, and Null Sector would be forced to work together or all face annihilation.
I would rather just have Overwatch attempt to fought Talons plans in creating a tech capable of doing evil or whatever, then during the fight a machine explodes causing them all to replay battles with no idea what is happening other than snippits of their past. All they know is that an enemy is going to try and do something and they need to stop it, regardless if the enemy looks like them or not. This confusion, desperation and lack of consequence will allow the fights to be cannon, not cannon and introduce enemies constantly. Either that or Overwatch are just conducting training from their previous fights. Or do what Lol did and have 8 summoners control a character of their choice in the pool of heros to enact their will. I mean realistically we are adding story or reason to a game where people are dying constantly, defending something "important" despite the dying and fighting against either themselves or with the enemy. None of it makes sense if it was all real, taking place as a new thing.
@@scotttimbrell8632 The brawls are not canon, I do not believe. The maps themselves are, and the teasers and Easter eggs on the maps. But the fights are not. Besides, that wouldn't explain mirror matches. The PvP of Overwatch is not designed for a narrative purpose and that's okay. But it's undeniable Blizzard have built a universe worth preserving and expanding, at least in my opinion.
The vision and story of Overwatch died when papa Jeff left. I've genuinely given up hope on the soul of Overwatch returning. Without Jeff, sure we still have the game, but the souls is long gone
The relentless pursuit of profit has hallowed Blizzard (and honestly the entire country) out. You're absolutely right about the layoffs 100% That said I'm still a firm believer that 6v6 was better.
16:05 this is 100% true. The premium skins don't feel to me like something asperational. They feel like someone driving ferrari. So far above what a person with normal money concerns might pay for that I don't see "i want to be like him" i see "yeah it looks cool but that guy is rich and stupid." Its amazing because the prices are so over the top I feel cheated spending any of my hard earned free coins on skins.
To be honest, I havent played OW in a hot minute, and honestly, life feels better. Maybe it doesn't help that I really suck at the game so I get slammed if I do decide to talk into voice (probably also because I don't sound like a "typical woman" so I get called a 12-year-old boy. I know I should put myself above those insults but it does get frustrating), while I often refelct with "ok but you're literally in the same lobby with me, we are literally both bronze, you're not that much better than me. But the toxicity in this game in general (maybe it's an EU thing, I'm not sure?) really starts to break me down really quickly every time I do attempt to play the game again. On top of that, I just really miss lootboxes and 6v6. Idk but even though OW1 had just as much toxicity, atleast getting cosmetics was always guaranteed without a battlepass or buying them from the shop. This game feels like an utter moneygrab now (and yes, they are right, there are games who are even worse) but the contrast is so stark that I just instantly went "no thank you, I'll (battle)pass" (pun intended)

Her talking about a character killed in story and being retired in game reminded me of League long long ago.
There was an animation where Gangplank dies. Literally, he dies. And what they did, was they disabled him in game. Gangplank died in the story, and you could no longer play him in game. It even said the reason was because he was dead!
In the end, in the story it turned out he faked his death and he was brought back in game - (I believe this is when his rework happened, too) but it was so cool to see him “die” in the story and for him to ACTUALLY DISAPPEAR FROM THE GAME
that's really cool. could never work in ow though
@@PurpleMoon799 Yeah, Overwatch is too competitive-focused. I believe Gangplank's "death" disabled him in Ranked in League too, but this was waaaaay long ago, back before League was massively popular in esports I believe.

while this sounds cool and hell I'd like it there is a big problem. how cool would this still be if you say, spent money on a skin for said character and then let's say this happens the next day. Most games wouldn't refund you the money and just say "sucks to suck". how cool would it be then?
@@demon-hunter1498 Nobody cared? Literally, nobody cared. The problem you're describing only applies if they went "haha the character's gone, your skins are worthless now", but they didn't do that. He was disabled for all of, like, a week at most iirc. After that he was back, with rework, and all the skins even got new designs as is the case with all the reworks that come with model updates.

@@YourBlackLocal
Firstly, mitigation is a form of resource, resources are the things tanks and supports can provide to the rest of the team to enable them to do stuff.
Removing mitigation would lower the skill of the game as there would be less variety and potential teamwork possible due to less resources to funnel into different places/ people, making it even lower than from the switch from 2 to 1 tanks, and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure the game you want to play is overwatch or just team death match if you want to remove mitigation
Secondly, The reason that I think mitigation negation should be removed is because they are inherent counters that don't stem from outplaying but happenstance of the characters being played...
Instead of forcing a mistake out of the enemy rein and then either surrounding him or breaking through his shield by forcing its overuse before damaging and killing rein, you just punched through his shield because you're ram
Notice how the characters just have inherent advantages which are not obtained through outplaying your opponent but simply through your character just being able to do that.
If these inherent advantages were removed, it would significantly reduce counter swapping because it would mean that to counter your opponent you'd have to pick a character who can be played in a way which bypasses the opponent,
Hence making the skill required to counter swap significantly higher because you'd actually have to understand how the characters interact and how to outplay your opponent on the counter and not just have an ability that just automatically does that.

We could also leave to lore to Archive of our Own. I read some good stories
Jeff Kaplan gave us 2018 Brigitte. He was no better.

It lets everybody in a match have that hero moment.
But the OW devs are too afraid of doing that so in every role you can get matches where you never get that hero moment
Plus they have been really consistent in their hero design - almost every hero (barring a few exceptions) has mobility on the L1~

I really appreciate how clear you have gotten when communicating about certain topics, it validates me in a way I don't think I'm capable of conveying
Juno's introduction short was the first time in a very long time that I felt some of that early overwatch lore magic.
Niandra has some awesome content. Love watching her Mercy takes.
i mean i think its pretty sick with Venture and Juno - that the Voice Actors read the comics on the YT Channel! its just such a small thing but it feels good to present the comics!
yeah Im alsways too lazy to read the comics, even though they're short... but I'm an overwatch player, you can't expect a decent attention span from me lol
I remember when games came out had a few dlc packs and that was it
Niandra the GOAT
OW2 is such a shell of what Ow 2016 used to be.
I agree with pricing being absurd but I don’t feel like delving into that one
In terms of theme cohesion I also agree, this BP for example, the Ashe skin is cute but has nothing to do with the greater theme, and Lucio got what looks like a day 1 OW1 epic in the pass while Bap is in the bundle and Rein is in the shop on a completely unrelated and frankly boring theme
More theme cohesion in the BP instead of filler would be great, especially in an instance like this Lucio skin. Lucio’s not unpopular and the skin will sell, they aren’t losing as much money as they think by selling a Polar bundle and putting Oni Kiri at level 70, for example, 90% of my BP skins are rotting because it’s chaff for characters I don’t play, and characters I do play get nothing because I play popular characters
I also think they need more skins for said popular characters in the BPs, better diversity would be nice. Outside of Visual Kei in a Gamepass bundle and her gallery skins, I’ve had to pay full skin price for every Kiri skin I’ve gotten, I know it obviously works to get them bank but throwing us ONE bone wouldn’t lose them that much profit
Idk, rambling again
Cute skins fit the game better while edgy skins fit the vocal part of the fanbase, edgy sells easier, and they should make skins for popular characters a little more accessible
@@Taylorperchasemccarthy I think Tracer, Kiri, Moria and JQ have had the best out of the Mythics, but Orisia wasnt mentioned in the bad ones? Come on now, its a redone Leg skin xd.
But are you telling me you didnt want to buy the £30 kiri cosplay skin? wowowow shocker that. xd
@@scotttimbrell8632 I’d have bought it if I was playing lmao, unfortunate as it is, it is a pretty skin
I hope they do a collab for an anime I’ve actually watched next, Uraraka Juno or Ai Hoshino Kiri would go crazy
I actually kinda like Orisa’s but it definitely feels more like a legendary
Correction now: Uraraka Juno goes crazy
The story reset idea only works if they decide to stop mass layoffs in the future... And we know they won't stop that
May 2018 the pink mercy skin was made available, the amount it raised was announced July 2018
Love Niandra! Great to see you reacting to their content. They are always so level headed and smart 😊

As a tank and support player. I like when I'm tank. I enjoy the responsibility. I enjoy that support has my back and that I look after my team. "I am the guardian and the gateway" as rammatra says in a voiceline.

"Mutas are too strong in ZvZ so we're nerfing mutas."
"Mutas are too weak in all matchups so we're buffing mutas."
"Mutas are too strong in ZvZ so we're nerfing mutas."
"Mutas are too weak..."
The community the whole time is screaming "The reason mutas, when strong, are too strong in ZvZ is because Zerg has no good anti air! So it has to be muta v. muta! Buff the hydralisk!"
Eventually the team goes
"We realize part of the reason mutas are volatile in ZvZ is due to a lack of Zerg anti air. So we're buffing the spore crawler [the zerg anti air static defense]. But so that it doesn't effect other matchups it will be +8 dmg vs. Biological."
^-- Which is also an example of one of their weird exceptions.
This makes me miss Jeff; his sweet face, gracing us with precious overwatch updates.
The soft relaunch of the IP would benefit everyone. With a proper focus, the changes and direction have less variance, therefore less chaotic releases. Plus then a reset of expectations. This would naturally improve quality.
I just don’t want to feel like it is pointless to invest in a Live Service game. Also, if at some point there won’t be enough players to make playing thru this chaos of a game, what was me spending $40 dollars on a skin I will barely get to play in.
imo i think the only ow issue right now is tank. they need to find a way to make tank feel good, while not making them feel TOO overpowered. and the game will practically be fixed. besides the stuff you can't really control like lore team being fired and stuff.
some changes id like to see personally:
complete removal of tank passive, new passive: 50% ult charge reduction, consecutive stuns, boop distance, and status effect duration are halved each time they are consecutively used after one another on a 3 second interval. crit multiplier damage is dealt DoT, so tanks take the first half in burst, then what would be the Crit in "burn damage"
removes the frustration of being stunlocked and focus fired with effects, while not feeling overbearing to face against.
next, revert the 10 damage blocking armor. instead, give all armored tanks half armor half hp.
lastly, a new tank passive: enemy heros who swap to a new hero COMPLETELY negates ult charge given from shooting tanks for 15 seconds. you can counter swap, but it punishes you for doing so in a way that isn't completely intrusive but is definitely impactful.
@@ThatpastaiscoldThis is straight up a lie and the comment should be deleted. If you’re not gonna engage in truthful discussion, you shouldn’t comment at all

I respect you. Like, a lot.
What role do you play?
@@domothebro2435 I play with a group so I usually just play whatever slot is open but usually dps or support.
Ah that could explain why you have the opinion you do, as your experience is quite different
45:20 that call out was too good 😂
29:14 I was also one of the people who really wanted it...I wish pve wasn't scrapped, it's why I came back, but I get it at this point, it's gone, and yeah pvp hasn't gotten that much better since scrapped pve lmao. We're literally trying 6v6 at some point even now.
flats has to be the most chill, reasonable creator i can think of. the vibe is always so good
Right up there with niandra
I love “the state of [game]” videos. Taking all of the game as a whole and analyzing it, pointing out flaws and strengths with recent changes and the health overall.
22:40 I hear Winston lmao
Juno is very much a "Ilya Kuvshinov" designed hero
6v6 2CP only is the answer. It always has been.
If overwatch did an arcane lvl anime based around the ow1 characters it would pay for it self in new players base and skins sales
ow does not have the community nor the depth nor the lore to pull off what riot did with arcane
Can't believe we got a fucking PORSCHE COLLAB before any kind of TV show

Tell me why the voice lines used to be 25 credits, and now they are 100 terrible choice to do this.
Casual here, I noticed that I’m kinda in the group where I think the season is good based on the season.
I still think it depends on the meta ofc but like if there’s nothing I want to get, why should I focus most of time on it? (Remember I’m casual). So when that’s the case i just play it every now and then when I feel like it
For incorporating lore you just add a new character sort of similar to Tracer and make it they changed into a different universe
Yay. Another state of overwatch video

I'd say have OW2 pvp be its thing where it doesn't have to heavily adhere to the cannon.
And have OW: The one with the plot and story. Tell the newly retconed and more accurately fleshed out cannon. Give it the whole Realm reborn treatment and wipe it clean. Use the same building blocks just stacked with a more solid foundation.

Niandra taught me how to mercy as well!
The vision and story of Overwatch died when papa Jeff left. I've genuinely given up hope on the soul of Overwatch returning. Without Jeff, sure we still have the game, but the souls is long gone
As a destiny player who started ow during the lightfall fiasco, having ow pve could’ve brought some people over shafted by bungie

Friends 3/4/5 stack qp and q times are still 5-7 minutes on a good day, usually like 9-10
18:20 I use this skin, and I've only seen one other person use it
22:36 He goes full Winton lol
The relentless pursuit of profit has hallowed Blizzard (and honestly the entire country) out. You're absolutely right about the layoffs 100%
That said I'm still a firm believer that 6v6 was better.
16:05 this is 100% true. The premium skins don't feel to me like something asperational. They feel like someone driving ferrari. So far above what a person with normal money concerns might pay for that I don't see "i want to be like him" i see "yeah it looks cool but that guy is rich and stupid."
Its amazing because the prices are so over the top I feel cheated spending any of my hard earned free coins on skins.
Its wild how many times this man is right on something. If he says something I disagree with I just go: Well I am probably wrong.
