I was a lucio player from the first time I played in the beta, all the way until I stopped playing in 2019. That Lucio video honestly did sum up how it was to play him in the early days. People were asking why he wasn't wallriding, but Lucio 1.0 wallriding was a complete PAIN in the butt to use. You could pretty much get just as much value from walking around next to your other support healing and peeling as you could if you were a "god" wallrider. Wallriding didn't give insane speedboosts, you couldn't jump on the same surface multiple times in a row, and for a very long time the only thing high elo players did better than low elo ones was their ability to sit in the skybox on heal and stay in LOS of their team without dying. I do recommend anyone to go look at the stages of wallriding in Overwatch 1, it's pretty neat to see.
Was coming to say just this. Good Wall riding in those days was akin to being good at ball tech now. Additionally, he did more hps then than he does now. It seems ridiculous to say "stay on heal" in today's game... But it actually did something then.

Not at all. Sym gave armour just like Torb did, but she also had the teleporter, which pretty much functioned like a weaker mercy ress applied to the whole team every time they died, and if you weren't getting value out of that, she also had the shield generator which gave in an incredibly high range an extra 75 shield health to your whole team for as long as it was alive for, which is insane. The only drawback was that she took up the slot of a healer, but the amount of supportive value she gave was way higher than torb.

And that was her ult...so bummer if a Tracer found it. Saying "weaker Mercy ress" is a huge understatement. Meanwhile, Lucio speed boost still provided the same utility while also offering more. Also teleporter usually became another tool for trolling but that's besides the point. Shield generator didn't come until way later. It was after her first rework. Again, I'm just referring to early times. What I was jokingly getting at in the beginning was that Torb was able to provide better hp while essentially enabling another dps teammate: his turret. Sym had turrets too but her turrets were 1hp each. They weren't reapairable nor did they ever get buffed to levels 2 or 3. I really liked the fact that Symmetra could choose between placing a TP or a Shield generator (yes that was not the case at release I know). You had a choice to make and it gave the character more depth, they should add this kind of mechanic again where you can have several ults and can choose which one to use at any given time.
Yes, the sym orbs are very slow, but remember that she had a 120 dps autoaim left click and the moving shield to add on to that. The right click were more of a zoning/ spam ability anyway in combination with her turrets a decent hold for chokes

I still want the old level 3 Torb turret back. That thing could knock out entire teams if given half a chance. I'm still in the habit of jumping when I look straight down to place a turret. Plus stacking armor packs in a corner for your team? Priceless. Most of you don't know OG strats like "Planet of the Apes" and the old Sym map-edge trolls. Or the rangeless McCree (Cassidy) who could headshot you from literally across the map. Beyblade. And good lord some of the things you'd see OG Rein players start to do. I have a distinct memory from OW1 where my team was defending 1st point Hanamura. I was on Mercy, and we had a Torb. Torb would make sure I always had an armor pack near me, and if I rotated, he would go 'Mercy, armor pack.' in VC and it is a memory I think about from time to time 😭

Old ui and borders were in-arguably so much better looking. Say what you want about 5v5 or whatever other changes they make. But this was a mistake to change and get rid of. Just another progression/self achievement taken away from us
i really do miss old bastion, the static death machine, the crazy canon ult, you needed incredible positioning and tech in order to make him anyting but situational
Love the complete switch up his playstyle had with ult, went from static machine gun to, if you were good enough, hyper aggressive mobile death machine. Movement with ult was so much fun
It's pretty funny to think back then he was static during normal gameplay, and super mobile during ult. Now he's very mobile during normal gameplay, and entirely static in ult xD A literal uno reverse move
Sometimes I think maybe they should bring back the roll. Only to just split up passives only to split up passives between the DPS characters it wouldn't really effect role que
I feel like playing since the beginning gave me a leg up on Torb... Because even though I don't build up turrets the same way, I still have a very good knack of where it up put a turret. So it just is the biggest pain in the butt and very hard to kill.

thats before the patch where slows only do either your strongest or enemy strongest
so they just couldn't move
….. if that’s the case he still is just standing there. Not. Doing. Anything. Doesn’t even bother to put his shield down and try to move.
@@asonofliberty3662 if not counting the freeze forcing him to put it down
18:00 the W S strafing I can't 😂😂😂
Back in 2016, the turret was the best player on any given team.
We kinda say it as a joke now, but it was a fact at the time.
I remember the week before overwatch 2 came out coming back to overwatch 1 and playing it every day, it was so fun
Now, I'm later into Overwatch since my first playing was on the Switch, but I do miss old Rein. 2k, 1.6k shield. Something about blocking all that damage is so satisfying. Now I can blink and my shield is gone. I'm basically holding up a piece of wet paper saying "please don't shoot me!"
man watching this gave me the feelgooods like nothing else
I wasn’t around to play back then, but the entire armor packs and being to upgrade your turrets sounds like something that would be cool today
Had completely forgotten there was a defense roll at one point...
I forgot that being stunned or killed out of an ult wound not mean anything as it would refund
The good old days. Everyone is leagues better at the game now but people actually had fun back then and comboing ults was the name of the game
I’ve been waiting for this vid. I love having flats in the background to spit on ow2 topics
Old as it makes me feel, I gotta say it: In a lot of ways those were the days.
@Flats You remember threading the old firestrike through like single pixel gaps and angles to secure that +30% ult charge. ahaha man...
These videos were SO nostalgic. I have been okaying since OW1 Beta and boy lemme tell you how WILD that game was!
I was there gandolf, 3000 years ago, fr i wish i could go back to those days
I have a distinct memory from OW1 where my team was defending 1st point Hanamura. I was on Mercy, and we had a Torb. Torb would make sure I always had an armor pack near me, and if I rotated, he would go 'Mercy, armor pack.' in VC and it is a memory I think about from time to time 😭
The Doomfist guide was my fav
watching this video makes me feel 20+ years older
As a Zenyatta main, the Doomfist guide triggered some severe PTSD for me lol.
When original comp was no limits and it was 4 Sims 2 mercy. Setting up the car wash with autoaim 120dps i believe it was at launch full charge. Plus mercy boost
Holy shit this reminded me of the ptsd playing this on release and wailing on rein for days and days to ever do anything since we were indeed all bots and just sat at the end of one hallway shooting the blue shield in front of us
18:30 Notice how the Genji gets rolled and still has ult, those were some of the days of all time lol
Bastion being able to headshot was always a mistake
Every one of the old heroes had a very defined role, and it all worked. Maps were designed specifically with certain heroes in mind, and every hero in mind.
These days it feel so shallow. Overwatch 1 was my favorite game for those first couple of years + beta.
The kid gazing at Doom's fist: "whoa, this could take down skyscrapers!"
Fast forward to today's GeriatricFist 😂😂😂😅
I feel like such an OW boomer, I'm sitting here going "ahhh the good ol days".
"These young kids today don't understand the hardships we had to go through back in our youth, hunting Mercy before she could rez, Fighting off nanoblade for 8 whole seconds, Symmetra turning everyone into tanks.. the whole lot"
wall ride was different back then, you couldn't hold space and stay on wall indefinitely like you can now.
Holy fuck I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Listening to these game journalists try to sound very informed and experienced while the gameplay that they're showing is actual garbage is the funniest thing.
I would love to go back in time and hone my new skills on old ow.
I remember all those "10 Things You Didn't Know About Overwatch's Development" from back when 2016 was the modern day. Wild.
I really miss OW1 balance before OW2 outside of Flashbang and Molten core. I really like the concept of Magnet Grenade. But old Molten Core would be really good with his Overload IMO. Torbjorn could be overloading for such a long time if he used Overload and Molten core after each other. I think he would be an absolute menace. Plus I miss Lvl 3 turrets, those were badass.
I miss overwatch right before ow2 :(
Old ui and borders were in-arguably so much better looking.
@@-cactus.raven- thanks to my inspiration BastionMain I put in 300 hours with the character before overwatch 2 came out
SAME DUDE THEY WATERED EVERYTHING DOWN SO MUCH and they just keep doing it bruhhhh
It's pretty funny to think back then he was static during normal gameplay, and super mobile during ult. Now he's very mobile during normal gameplay, and entirely static in ult xD A literal uno reverse move
Hundar, the guy that said dont be a dick is Brett. He was apart of cowchop and now muscle party
Sometimes I think maybe they should bring back the roll. Only to just split up passives only to split up passives between the DPS characters it wouldn't really effect role que
Brought so many memories back it was much more simple back then😂
Always nice to see that good old
I miss sym's flying shield
Torbjörn tips: Turret go brrrrr
13:46 Big Slam!
I only play the last year of OW1 so I def missed a lot but it honestly looks so fun
This gives me major nostalgia and hidden memories
I feel like playing since the beginning gave me a leg up on Torb... Because even though I don't build up turrets the same way, I still have a very good knack of where it up put a turret. So it just is the biggest pain in the butt and very hard to kill.
We used to get so many potgs with torb in spawn.
Remembering this is insane.
I wanna see his reaction to the Symm one
31:20 bruh the noise sent me 😭😭😭
I'm getting very nostalgic. Now i want Bastion with a barrier back.
The nostalgia is so big it's literally crushing me.
God i miss using Torbs old ult at the Volskaya platforms
the gameplay footage is hysterical
