I dont know whats going on with Cassandra, but it breaks my heart that she going through a hard time. I love her content, she is fun and super smart. Time can make pain more soft.
The women making the skincare candles and not appropriating but APPRECIATING the culture and sharing it in a way that's special and a way to educate people about the culture I love it. I see so much appropriation to many cultures beauty customs thank you for highlighting this
First of Cass your a literal soldier to go to this place full of overwhelming things and so many people, while your so full of anxiety and constant catches of tears in your voice! I commend you for this and also thankyou as I found this upload so very interesting! I wish you the best at getting through your dark times and I know I'm only one person out here but trust me you are not alone... I have and still do go through many dark times. Give your self time and kindness Cass! Love from Tia ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
12:00 It's awesome that you're talking about this for so long and even state how you wish brands like hers had more promotion but then don't even mention the name.
8:00 umm, hate to be a party pooper, but what does shipping a rock across the world do except use up resources and create unnecessary pollution? Not everything has to be done, just because it can and only for •~ the vibes ~•…
Cassandra thank you for teaching me about ingredients and what they actually do before some of them became "trendy" (hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide for example) so i knew when brands were full of BS when claiming theybdo things they do not actually do. Omg some of these commercials and ads right now piss me off ugh
The women making the skincare candles and not appropriating but APPRECIATING the culture and sharing it in a way that's special and a way to educate people about the culture I love it. I see so much appropriation to many cultures beauty customs thank you for highlighting this
as someone who runs a small cruelty free cosmetics company this was such a great insite into what goes on bts. The MOQ is such a deturant bc i barely have 1000 customers why would i want 10,000 cosmetic bottles in storage 😂. there is so much that goes into creating a beauty/skincare business and a lot of celebrities have no clue.
I want to have faith in skin care enthusiasts, that we will put our purchasing power to good use and not purchase so much celebrity skincare in the future 🥺
I'm over customizable systems with single ingredient serums. I don't want to put on 8 layers of product in any particular order. If I put on another layer of skincare I won't be able to get my big head out the door. My next layer will be a bag over my head. I want a serum/moisturizer with ceramides, peptides, antioxidants, vitamin C, aha, rental, and everything else. Toss some pigment inhibitors in there too. If a serum is 2 percent something, it should be 98 percent something else. Put different actives in each product of the line. Cleanser, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen each with 4 or 5 different actives, resveratrol, arbutin, niacinamide, azalaic acid, tranaxamic acid, q10, matrixyls, etc. And the kitchen sink.😊
I think the hard part is getting all of the different active ingredients to play nice together. Different optimal pHs, some will react with each other and cancel out, some ingredients will end up being less stable and becoming inactive before others. For example, peptides can be taken apart by salicylic or glycolic acids. Part of why The Ordinary costs less is that isolating each active makes it a lot easier to create a stable optimized formula for each ingredient.
I would love for you to make a video about the products from that one skin care founder you passionately talked about the one that travels around the world and grew to appreciate different(skin care) cultures! ❤🦋
I've used the skin care candles made of soy "wax". Tiny, independent brands make them in Mexico, my country, many times in a kitchen. The ingredients are available online. And, they are what healed my horrible, cracked, peeling and discolored elbows! You have to try them! Sorry you are going through a rough time ❤
BTW, speaking about what works and what doesnt, thank you for recommending Goodal apricot cream. I bought also their apricot serum, and just cannot recommend them enough!
I won't buy celebrity brands merely based on some name. *However - I did recently buy a foundation from Haus - based on the quality of the product NOT the promotion. Also - recycle, reduced packaging YES in everything! Love some of the Asian formulas, but the packaging is ridiculous -almost as if WASTE = LUXURY! This must stop!
Millennial here - I prefer specialised brands, not celebrity ones. I distrust quality of celeb brands.. perhaps this comes from my experience with celeb perfumes - cheap non lasting formulas when compared to mass or lux perfumes.
When you said scientifically backed up brands are under the light of ore flashy brand, it reminded me of people that 'know' psychology yet don't read research articles and claim many bs. I am a psych student and this pisses me off. Why sciences is always downgraded? We live in an area where sciences is available for everyone yet there is war on it... So odd
I actually used to work for the retail stores for cosmoprof after being licensed for hair and nails I stepped back from being in salons and that's how I worked for Cosmoprof retail. They have kind of gotten a bit lost with beauty trends and I agree with everything here we'd have reps come in and I'd even ask them esthe questions and use ingredient names I learned from your channel that would like make them stop and Google their own product
Cassandra, I’m not sure if you have commented on this before, how do you feel about makeup eraser wipes? And do you have any tips for blackheads on chin and nose?
My Derm just told me that I don't need a toner, that it's an unnecessary step. I have much respect for you and the job that you do!! I really value your opinion...what do you think??
12:24 so we’re basically saying the only difference between cultural appropriation/appreciation is having a representative of the culture in question?! Seems an awful lot like the „I have a black friend“ argument. Don’t get me wrong, to me the concept of cultural appropriation is questionable in and of itself. Humans and cultures have been merging and exchanging forever. As long as it’s not done maliciously, I don’t see a big issue. If people were really that upset about cultural appropriation, wouldn’t that extend to foods as well? So that would mean no more pizza for anyone who’s not Italian. No more sushi unless you’re Japanese.
The difference between cultural appropriation/appreciation is having a representative of that culture there to tell you whether what you are doing is handling it in a wrong/insensitive way. e.g. doing yoga - not cultural appropriation. renaming all yoga poses with western names and then acting like europeans invented it = cultural appropriation. Oppenheimer reading the Bhagavad Gita, a book debating the morality of war, while he was debating the morality of war = not cultural appropriation Nolan using the Bhagavad Gita in a sex scene in a movie that does explore the morality of war, giving zero credit to the Gita for shaping Oppenheimer's worldview = cultural appropriation/extractive use of the text. Reading the Witcher, a polish novella = not cultural appropriation Turning the Witcher novellas into a 3rd rate wannabe woke misandrist TV show which people only watch because they've heard of the name = pretty nasty cultural appropriation Telling the story with the MIT team that did card counting in Vegas = Not cultural appropriation Telling the story by swapping out all the asian main characters with white actors = Definitely cultural appropriation Each culture has its norms, sometimes it's just as simple as asking the people involved what I'm doing is treating the material in an ethical way.
So before watching imma make a guess. The top dogs make the trends slightly based on market demand or bring up hacks older generations used or use foreign ones.
I very much appreciate Cassandra’s videos, sharing her knowledge and experiences, but If I had a drink every time she mention her acne era I would end every video really drunk, lucky for me I don’t drink. 😅
Is Dare beauty a white label? I had always assumed that was really her brand. Can you do a video helping us understand celebrity skincare? Rare, Fenty, etc.
Is it possible to get more info on the brands that you liked and why? This was an interesting insight on how it works, but curious about details. Seems there were at least three people in the video willing to talk to you in depth. Just wanted to know more on your opinions about what they were up to (if the info can be shared).
Do you go by Dr. Anne? Because I just saw a Facebook ad with your face recommending a product for hyperpigmentation. It was a video and it said Dr. Anne dermatologist.
Cosandra have you ever used face reality regime? Do you like it? I’m a esthetician new business money is tight the training is 600 pluse you need to buy product
As an older consumer in my 50s, celebrities don't impress, in fact, I tend to run the other way from their products.
Definitely, me too 😅
Yes I agree I never buy celebrity skin care
Same as Shania said in her one song That don't impress me much
I’m with you. I stay away from celebrity make up and celebrity wines.
I couldn't agree more. Even ads with celebrities on them are a huge no for me. Sponsored ads don't work for me😎

She said she wished the brand would get more exposure but then didn't really name it.
Love how informative Casandra IS and how is actually real with us without any biases
Correction, she has biases but she does her upmost best to be fair
She definitely has biases. Thankfully she doesn’t push products though.
