My mother is from Aurora, do they speak chavancano too?
im proud to be born & rise in Zamboanga City. yes we speak spanish!!! muchisimas gracias y vaya con dios ♥️🙏🇵🇭
I am learning Japanese but watching your channel makes my spanish roots alive
FYI: I always wondered how Zamboanga, developed a Creole Spanish language, instead of Manila or Cebu. I read, Chavacano was first spoken in Ermita District and Cavite, with a bit mixture of Tagalog. When soldiers&workers from Cavite and Ermita where brought to Zamboanga by the Spaniards to construct Fort Pilar, many of them decided to stay there and got married with the locals. Chavacano in Cavite and Ermita, Manila, eventually died out(or dying out), specially with abolishment of Spanish subject & the popularity of Tagalog & English. Zamboanga Chavacano on the other hand stayed on and was enriched with some Cebuano and Muslim words. So, Ermita & Cavite Chavacano was a Creole mix of Spanish & Tagalog. While Zamboanga Chavacano is much richer with a mix of mainly Spanish & some Tagalog, Cebuano,Muslim & Hiligaynon from Ilo-lo workers also brought to Fort Pilar. I guess that's what you call destiny for Zamboanga Chavacano.
Yes youre right Cavite but Caviteño ddnt used often nor practice it like what Zamboangeños has ..literally Zamboanga they made aa their use dialects thats where they had been recognized..I can speak a lil chavacano bcoz I used to travel Zamboanga City and yes it happened losing it through bcoz I learned it since when I was 6 years old when we lived in there but yet I can still understand ..I live in Zamboanga del Norte one of the province of Zamboanga Peninsula
Maybe due to geography? Everything was centralized in Manila so when the Americans arrived, they quickly embraced and adapted to their culture. And since the Philippines is an archipelago, there's not much interaction between the islands so Chavacano wasn't preserved in the Luzon area.
@@cerulean1602 That could also be a reason. I've read in Wikipedia that the propagation of Filipino in schools & media lead to the extinction of 3 Chavacano varieties-Ermita, Cotabato& Castellano Abakay in Davao. Only the Zamboanga, Ternate and Cavite city varieties remain. 6 varieties pla ang Chavacano noon. Hmmn, interesante.
My grand grandfather from Tarlac and pure Spanish. According to my grandfather (he told me) his father went to Zamboanga city 1635 century together with his brothers and thier families and relatives. They are soldiers of Spain. They build the fort Pilar. My grandfather married local Zamboangena and Seattle in Zamboanga city. Some of his brothers and relatives went to basilan and some part of Mindanao.
Mi abuela Pura de Zamboanga y un Español, mi bisabuelo un puro Español de Tarlac. El Feliciano no de Philippines. Puro in Español.
The locals of Zamboanga city are badjao and subanen. When the Spaniards arrived and build the Nuestra La Virgen del Pilar fort as their military camp, thats where the chavacano dialect was born. It is a mixture of the native tribe dialect of badjao, subanen and Spanish. But as years goes by, chavacano language are changing specifically, to us living in the city of Zamboanga due to the other tribes influences like mostly tausug, bisaya and yakan, chavacano here is quite different from the traditional chavacano but that doesn't mean the pure chavacano like me forgets out dialect because at home, we speak the formal chavacano because as a grandaughter of an American veteran army, its shameful in our family to pass on the informal chavacano. Because as a Zamboangeña, our culture, language and history is our pride.

You live and breathe Spanish Creole in Zamboanga. There are times, though, when the Gothic architecture and the "old world" life is more apparent in parts of Vigan, Ilocos Sur. If ever you may happen to chance on a video featuring the place, do have a look around.

I've only ever met one Zambuangeña girl because she was living in Leyte. To be completely honest, in comparison to the most beautiful chick in my office, well she wasn't as beautiful. But god dammit if she wasn't the most enchanting girl in that beurocratic hell hole of an office. She was full of personality and cultured to the brim, she was such a wholesome young woman and really intelligent. I always appreciated the times we'd get to talk (which was rare coz i was solo as fuck most of the time), and for two years i didn't even know she was from Zamboanga. I only realized it when i heard her talking in Chavacano to someone over the phone. She sounded so fluent in Waray and Tagalog. So i immediately asked her to pretend to get angry and swear at me in Chavacano and she said "It's going to be no use because to you, who is a native Waray speaker, it'll just sound like i'm being sweet. Lol". She did indulge me on my request and true enough, it sounded like she was trying to baby talk me. Oh Vienna, you were a hoot.
I'm a chavacano when I travel to Columbia, Dominican republic, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Honduras and many more I don't have a problem communicating with them, also I speak 80 % Portuguese .

Correction he's from pagadian city
@@SolLunaTV ken can speak chavacano, they went to zamboanga hermosa festival as guest performer prior to that they invited everyone by speaking chavacano.
I don't speak Chavacano but I can fairly understand the conversation as our Grandpa often speaks to us in mix Ilonggo & Spanish and some Nihonggo and we the grandkids often answer or speak to him in mix Bisaya-Tagalog-English! How crazy is that??? We think so too! Hahaha, weird as it was somehow that "weirdness" helped me a lot to get by when I was traveling outside PH!
In common chavacano we always use "bueno" for good and "bien" for very instead of "muy". We often say "bien bueno" means very good
AHAHHAHA BIEN BUENO
Maybe for chavacano these days but not the olden days. My grandma still use the word 'Muy' as in muy buen. She also use the words like 'nos otros and vos otros' , we use them sometimes as well.
You have a point, pero tiene otro vi vientes ta usa el palabra "muy" for very, specialmente el di aton maga abuelo y abuela. El "buen/bien" was used in the modern times already

We guarantee you that we have lots of places here where you can enjoy and feel like you are just at your native place.. Hope to see you here!. Vaya Con Dios.!
Great video! If I remember it right, Chavacano was originally based on the old Castillian Spanish. That's why Filipinos call Spanish (both the language and people) as "Kastila" because the early Spanish colonizers were from Castile. Hence, some Chavacano words and phrases are different from modern Spanish (not to mention the infusion of local dialects) 😊
Also some areas in the Philippines use to have Chavacano speakers as well. But mostly now its in Zamboanga City.
Yo soy de Zamboanga!🥰🥰 I’m proud of my birthplace. Muchas gracias. Dios los bendiga siempre.😊😊

Same
Chavacano is essentially "no-grammar Spanish." Our conquistadores spoke Spanish to us, and we had to reply also in their language. But we were NOT taught Spanish grammar, so we used the SAME words our masters used. Thus evolved Chavacano -- which our Spanish masters understood -- when we spoke it. Here's an example of Chavacano verbs: yo tiene, tu tiene, el tiene, kami ("we") tiene, kamo (plural "you") tiene, ellos tiene. And a common warning "Do not climb the stairs" is -- "No sube-sube escalera." Therefore, Spanish -- with NO singular/plural and NO masculine/feminine and NO present/past/future -- is Chavacano!
