- This is an early trailer for Half-Life: Blue Shift, when it was still titled "Half-Life: Guard Duty". It uses here the original models, replaced in the final version by the HD models we know. It was remade into the first Blue Shift trailer available here: • Half-Life: Blue Shift ...
“Aw man, you cut the flashlight! Sellout...”
Doom 3 BFG Edition...

Cut -weapon- item - Flashlight
Even since in original half life, Barney Calhoun is holding a flashlight where he knocks that door..
We all Know This!
I remember you can use it in a mod called. "Night At The Office". A great mod tho.
He also wearing his armor vest and helmet in the beginning.
Guard Duty (the remake) is actually bringing it back
One thing I find interesting is that the flashlight worked as a weapon instead of simply pressing F.
it shouldve been Barneys symbol weapon instead of Gordon Crowbar
This cut feature actually makes sense, knowing the fact that security guards don’t have any sort of flashlight attached to their vests, like also in the half life 1 intro you can see a security guard knocking on a door while holding a flashlight, probably this weapon was cut because it would’ve been something annoying (having a flashlight as a separate weapon in a half life game may not be the best of ideas to be honest)
Srry for bad english
maybe it would be like opposing force where you get 2 melee weapons. with the flashlight also having to press mouse 2 to activate the light
Like Doom 3.
@@sipeb587 said guard being calhoun
shephard wasn't really a villain he is a hero with orders to kill another hero
He also was singlehandedly responsible for the death of the Race X Gene Worm, which would have allowed Race X to take over Earth. He made the biggest difference of all the HL1 series protagonists.
HunchbackEntertainment So he's more of an anti-hero than a villan?
Little Billy Chespin Yes, let's hope he makes a comeback in the HL games
SuperJayXD Comments from Marc Laidlaw I believe, look up BigMacDavis' discussion video on OP4 for the full story. Basically Race X couldn't survive on Earth without certain living conditions only the Gene Worm could provide. Thus by killing the Gene Worm and closing that portal Adrian singlehandedly stopped the Race X invasion of Earth.
HunchbackEntertainment Opposing force is a separate game of Half Life 1 and 2, so much so that they eliminated the X race in the end not to intervene in the events of the second game.
what is interesting is that opening animation of barney tying his shoes at the intro still exists as an animation inside the blue shift barney model
The good, the bad and the... handsome.
Woah
And yet, he's the only one who escaped the G-Man
G-man is like a parasite in half-life 2 people see a ton of signs of him yet they ignore him until the end
Pretty bold of them to include part of the game's ending in the trailer.
Did any one notice some of these scenes are from Half life 1? They must have been still very busy on the game lol.
Yeah.
most of them
I can only count 4 shots actually from the blue shift campaign
A normal flashlight 5 years before doom3
2*
Awesome, I'm loving all these old trailers
The trailer was made long before the release of Blue Shift(I think the trailer was made as it still was planned to be Dreamcast only, not sure tough). So yeah, they used some HL maps in the trailer, and u can also see a cut weapon(the flashlight).
Something about old trailers always hit hard
Apparently a new Half-Life Blue Shift HD remake with Source textures (like Black Mesa Source) is being worked on with the same name, Guard Duty.
I think they based that name on Blue Shift's original name.
Blue Shift was too short. I’m more excited for Operation: Black Mesa, the Opposing Force remake
@@bazingathethird4671 Actually they're made by the same studio
A lot of the maps in this early trailer were just HL1 maps
Besides the flashlight comments this a common comment type on this video🧐
0:30 So Blue Shift was meant to be more than just a map pack for Half-Life. Too bad they cut out things like that flashlight.
weeeell, it did have the unique armor system...
yes, i guess the hev charger is still actually functional but it had two different battery types thats crazy 🤯
Some of the clips aren't from blue shift but half life with Barney hand
I love that virtually every level in this trailer is just a Half-Life level.
I like how they were still going with the left over army style font and other things from Opposing Force...
0:25 So they are saying that Barney is in the middle as in he is neither a hero or villain?
Well yeah
He starts as in the middle
Ends as a hero
Also it would be funny if they kept the security guards betrahing the scientist in half life
Then they could call barney the villain
I think it’s because he’s not trying to destroy anyone and is trying to just run away. Like he would be a hero if he helped Gordon. But he doesn't.
he still owes freeman a bear so i would say hes not a hero but also not a villain
What always felt so weird to me in this trailer is that Gearbox unironically thought Adrian Shepherd was a villain in Opposing Force when the expansion never once has you kill a scientist or guard but even has the player relying on them to progress.
0:30 Dann It! I Want That Flashlight!
my idea is how it would work is that with the primary fire you swing it like the crowbar but slightly slower, the secondary fire makes the light flash which temporarily stuns enemeies.
"About that beer I owe ya" - Calhoun
i just have one question about this:
*I wonder if those boys could have made a bigger mess*
Just realized that some of the footage is HL1 but with a different View Model.
You can tell the flashlight was gonna be doom 3s flashlight before doom 3
The reason why we see a flashligh as a usable item and not used by pressing F may be because of the starting tram ride in the original Half-Life, as it shows Barney holding a flashlight on one hand and banging at the door with the other.
0:29 this is the same map from hl1
Chips And Giggles they use half life maps as a placeholder
my name's Rick ok
I just realized some of the areas in this trailer are base hl1 maps.
Office Complex, the end of Lambda Core, etc. I guess they didn't have all blue shift maps ready for trailer use.
Also the end of surface tension and middle of the on a rail chapter.
I'm still searching information about Blue Shift Flashlight...
Blue shift originally was called Guard duty but it was change
it was probably changed to Blue Shift beacuse it's a scientific pun, just like Half-Life, Opposing Force and Surface Tension
There is only two Cut content, The title and the Flashlight Title was well Guard Duty and The Flashlight was a weapon instead of a Feature
“You’re stuck in the middle” Tf does that mean? What did Barney do.
@@eikerduran-vg1zc huh?
Amazing. But why the hell are a few Half-Life levels in there? I guess they cut that.
They put those as placeholders.
Did anyone notice the trailer shows the maps from the original Half-Life?
Obsidian Plague they reused half life maps since they still need to work on -blue shift- guard duty maps, or they make the story where Calhoun following Gordon's track which is kinda boring and bunch of bullshit.
>half the footage is just hl1 maps
Music be *g r o o v y*
Where did you found this trailer?
NOOO WHERES THE LOTION ON HIS DING DONG
they would have used hd models instead of ld models but this is still neat
This Trailer is very Interesting. Instead of "Blue Shift" it was Guard Duty. I thought they changed it so It's a Scientific Term just like Opposing Force.
Another thing is that we Get to see a Cut Item which is a Flashlight. It would've been good since in Half-Life We see Barney holding A Flashlight while knocking a Door. I see that this has No HD Models since they were still making it.
In the Trailer is Different than the Retail. There's Levels from Half-Life 1 in this Trailer but as Barney instead of Gordon.
There's 4 Levels.
After Showing Barney in the Lobby, We see him Fighting Vortigaunt's in "Office Complex."
After looking at Gordon in the Tram the Next shot we see is Barney in "Lambda Core."
After that is the Parking Lot in "Surface Tension."
And then after Xen, Barney is fighting with another Guard in "On a Rail."
Lambda Core and Surface Tension Clips
Adrian Shephard is not a villain he is a ordered H.E.C.U soldier and also and of his game he saved the world.
Why does the trailer look like some troubled teen in high school movie trailer
This is cool and all but what about the part where you ask Gordon Freeman for his passport
how is your account made in 2006 when you draw like a 3 year old
@@richardc.mongler1029 okay? like seriously, okay?
@@richardc.mongler1029 like, genuinely. ya didn’t have to point that out dude, it’s obvious enough
say shit about the expansion but barney was the only one who didnt experience shitty gman visions
I think they should have kept the flashlight. it feels so bland to play as a security guard and press F for suit/uniform-mounted flashlight as in HL1's flashlight and OP4's nightvision.
when i think of barney i think of the lq barney. the hq one feels less like a guy named barney
I wonder if those boys could've made a bigger mess
Some of the is half life footage with Barny hands
oh
This time you play a mall cop
Can't WAIT for Insecurity to come out!
what?
anth0ny
It's a mod that remakes Blue Shift in Black Mesa.
Shephard is not a villian...
STOP ASKING ME A VILLAIN!
parece la presentación de power point que me mande 5 minutos antes de exponer
So it was called guard duty before changing it to blue shift?
I don’t think ANY of the marines are villains. I think it’s the aliens
Nah, I think it's actually G-Man who is the true villain, back in the beginning of the HL1 base game, if you look in that room where G-Man is talking to a scientist, he is giving the scientist the bad sample which caused the resonance cascade.
G-Man is the one who wanted this to all happen in the first place believe it or not.
He is the true villain of this franchise.
They’re definitely not the main villain of the story but they’re the bad guys
5/10 Not enough Otis
Why would you want to put away your weapon where you could just hit f....
0:49
Nice game. Little boring, but I love it so much!
It wasn't called great because everyone compared it to the games in the half life series and not to the games by other devs released at the time.
Basic the same thing with ld model's
Wait... Shepard is the villain?
that's what I thought.
He's not villain anyway since he didn't get his mission objective
This trailer is kinda inaccurate see.
"Guard duty" was the early title?
EWWWW
yeah and?
@@jazdajazda2191 EWWWW means I don't like it
@@lagpostg.r.y9955 ok
why wouldn't they do one where you play as a scientist?
That's the first half life, Gordon freeman is a scientist.
OpFor and BS is non-cannon and unplayable games with disgusting mp5 that not even rapid fire and ugly weapon animations.
