Locality Review: Siruseri, Chennai

Siruseri, part of the southern suburbs of Chennai, enjoys good connectivity via the Old Mahabalipuram Road and the Kelambakkam-Vandalur Road. When we observe the satellite image of the locality, it’s clear that the eastern part of the locality is well-developed when compared to its western counterpart. Kazhipattur, Padur and Karanai are the three major areas, situated close to Siruseri.
Sipcot IT Park, claimed to be the largest in South India, is an important IT park situated within the neighborhood. Many reputed companies and industries like TCS, Hexaware, Amtex, Cognizant, ATOS, and Vodafone are a part of this IT Park. Apart from this, Siruseri also enjoys good access to many other IT parks and SEZs like the ETA Technopark SEZ, Pacifica Tech Park, Alpha City SSPDL and ELCOT SEZ.
Siruseri is preferred by individuals working in the SIPCOT IT Park, both for end use and investment purposes. The locality majorly caters to the upper-middle-class income group. Additionally, Siruseri caters to the residential demand of many nearby localities like Semmancheri and Mambakkam. Eden Park Township is one of the most popular and most sought-after residential projects in the locality.
Old Mahabalipuram Road, Karanai Main Road, and Kelambakkam-Vandalur Road are the prominent roads in Siruseri. MTC buses plying in good numbers connect the locality with the rest of the city. Being an IT zone, cabs and autos are easily accessible too. Urapakkam Railway Station, situated at a distance of around 24 km is the nearest. The proposed Metro Corridor 3, under Phase-2, connecting Madhavaram with SIPCOT will further enhance the connectivity of Siruseri in the long run. The Chennai International Airport is 22.4 km away and can be reached via the Pallavaram-Thuraipakkam Road.
St.John's Public School, WoodHills Special School, PSBB School, Mohamed Sathak A J College of Nursing, Mohamed Sathak A.J. College of Engineering and Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College is present within the locality. For medical facilities, the residents of Siruseri rely on Tagore Medical College & Hospital, Gleneagles Global Health City and the Swaram Hospital & Specialty Clinic.
There are many local stores, marts and super markets that cater to the residents’ daily shopping requirements. Apart from this, Marina Mall and Viviana Mall along the Old Mahabalipuram Road is where the locals head during the weekends.
Pollution due to the high amount of construction work in the locality and poor internal roads are the major concerns of the residents of Siruseri.
To wrap it up, Siruseri is a major IT hub of Chennai, housing many multinational companies and industries. It encourages walk to work culture and enjoys good connectivity via the Old Mahabalipuram Road. The neighborhood has decent social infrastructure facilities. However, there is scope for a lot of improvement, especially in terms of the civic facilities.
