    I have two Touaregs, Gen 1 / 2010 and Gen 2 / 2011 models, both TDi, the Gen1 has DEF systems and air suspension, and the Gen 2 is my Mexican Treg and has NO DEF or EPA crapola. Interestingly enough, Gen 1 has 110k miles, Gen 2 has 53k miles, and I really like Gen 1 best. So many extra features on Gen 1 that were not replicated on Gen 2. Thanks for your channel. Hoping to do most of the maintenance services on both vehicles. Noteworthy, I have a 2018 Toyota Hilux Diesel D4D 4-cylinder turbo 4 cylinder and the engine oil stays sooooo much cleaner on it then the VW TDI, and the VW's stays much cleaner, longer than the Mercedes 3.0 liter 6-cylinder diesel. Wondering why that might be the case. If you know why Toyota stays cleaner, much, much longer give me a shout.

    I drain mine topside- it’s a feature of the TReg that I love. I WAS crawling underneath the car to change the oil but what a pain in the neck that is when you don’t have a lift!!!

      That is a great option if you have the extractor. Cheers

      @@garysgarage2118 How do you change it from the topside if there is no dipstick ?

    • @yoadriaaannn
      @yoadriaaannn Год назад +1

      @@m70v12 buy a vacuum pump oil extractor jug, 9 liters min., amazon sells it. They come with a small hose that you insert where the dipstick would go, I know it doesn't come with a dipstick per se but by removing the cap where the dipstick would go you can then insert the hose and then vacuum pump it out from there.

      @@yoadriaaannn Going to try this. I have the large volume extractor pump for my boat's diesel engines (Ford Lehmans) and never thought about using it on the car. Without owning a lift, like Gary, extracting oil from the top and measuring to make sure I have it all (99.9%) will make the job easier and less messy. Thanks for the idea.

    Hello. When you replace the plug, where do you buy it from? I found them online for $2 and $30 and am wondering if I need to pay for the expensive one or if the cheap will do. Thanks!

      I got replacement plugs from VW for $10. It is worth getting the correct one.

    Hello, is this your personal car? What is your opinion on this car and it's reliability? I was looking at buying a used SUV and these Gen II Touareg TDIs can be had for an attractive price where I live. My concern is the air ride suspension parts failing.

    • @garysgarage2118

      Yes this is my personal car. I've had it since new. It has been the best car I ever owned. But it's just getting to the point of needing major maintenance. This one has coil springs. Best years are 2013 to 2016. Air springs are not to hard to change (if done them in a BMW) so don't be to scared off by air suspension if you are handy.

      I have had two gen 1 Tregs with air suspension. They have THE most reliable, durable air suspension of any make or model. Not sure why others like MB and Land/Range Rover have such a high failure rate. I bought all new air suspension parts for the front end, thinking they would eventually fail, but I may never use these parts. The Gen 1 has air suspension lifting it an extra 4.75 inches when needed and locking center and rear differential as well as a plethora of other unique options dropped in most models in Gen 2. Great cars. I have two now since VW paid me more than double I had invested in my first Gen 1 Treg. I agree with Gary, "Best car I have ever owned". My Hilux Diesel is "The best truck I have ever owned".

    That little piece of foil from the oil bottle won’t damage the engine because it would get trapped in the oil filter.

    • @garysgarage2118
      @garysgarage2118  Год назад +2

      To get to the filter It has to go through the oil pump first. And would probably get caught in the pick up screen. This could partially block flow. Not recommend. Thanks for your comments

    Where is the dipstick for this vehicle?

    • @garysgarage2118
      @garysgarage2118  Год назад

      Hi A Mustang. VW does not supply a dip stick. However the tube is installed in the factory. Head down to your VW dealer and they will sell you one. You will find there is a plug in the end of the tube and it is located on the front of the engine on the drivers side. Just pull out the plug and insert the dip stick. I ordered one from Ebay for half price. but make sure it is genuine VW.
