Awesome test and great results! Just FYI with the early Lanzar's, they were not designed by Zed Audio, but Lanzar did get in trouble for using a very similar design to Zed Audio back in the early 90's. I have friends with MUCH better ears than me and they say the old school Opti's are some of the best SQ amps ever! Glad to see the name wasn't tarnished in this aspect.
So my statement was not 100% correct as I was referring to the Lanzar Opti 50c, cheater amp, which has been misstated as being a Zed Audio amp. I spoke with Stephen Mantz and he confirmed this was NOT one of his amps. Later 90's and early 2000's, Lanzar did have some Zed designs. Sorry for the confusion...
BigDWiz your the best and always will be the best at what you do ,I always rave to my friends about your channel it's the first and the best of its kind in RUclips ..
I have two of the ZED made Lanzar amps, LS240 and LS160 from the 1991. They are for sure Zed's design and manufacturing. These LS series were virtually identical to the Volcano VN series amps, check the guts of these old amps and you'll see what I'm talking about. Cheers!
Thank you for the test. I have a pair of 700x2s with fans already installed by the previous owner. He figured they only made about 1500 watts each, nice to know they make more.
Lol. I was laughing inside from the moment the video started as were probably many others that own or have owned these amps and are familiar with what it can do. Thank you for that. :-D You are just confirming something that is common knowledge for people that know about amps. Keep in mind this is not a bass amp and will blow it's rated numbers if tested as a full range amp at 1khz. These monsters are gems. Their only draw back is the amount of power they need due to being class AB. That full range amp even being one of the smaller ones in the line is too much for most stock electrical systems. If you don't supply them with enough power, and they do need a lot of power, they will go up in smoke. A lot of the noobs don't realize this and bad mouth these amplifiers for bad quality because they go up in smoke when in reality most times it's the users fault and not a manufacturing quality issue. The main thing to point out is the reward for the high power draw of these amps is a good sound that's immediately noticible to many who enjoy high performance car audio. Keep up the good work. Slap a full range 1600X2 on there now. Although that's not necessarily a budget amplifier it's a bargain for what it can do if you have the juice to feed it.
I have had a 500x2 since probably 2006 or 2007. Still using it in my spare vehicle to run an alpine type r 15. Ran it in my previous car for at least 8 years daily as a sub amp on 2 alpine r 15s. Now it mainly just gets used whenever i start the vehicle it is in to make sure the battery doesn't go completely dead from sitting. But it still works. Only complaint i have ever had is that because it is a class ab it gets hot and likes to shut down. Especially when it is above 70 degrees outside. Other than that it has been a great amp. Always wanted to install fans internally but never have. Had it in a box with a push pull fan setup on it that helped, but it still liked to overheat. Probably because i was running on stock electrical and had ridiculous voltage drop more than anything else. Have a cab 1600.1 in my daily driver now pushing an emf audio banhammer 12. Its a fun setup. That cab 1600.1 is a budget gem for sure.
well ive git way more than enough to feed the amp now. i tried running it stock electrical before i finished my system but it would drop to 10v with 0 awg running from the alternator so dont do that. i run it at 1.6 ohms a channal and it takes it not sure what my box rise is but it takes it. i have it in a very vibration heavy enviornment. and it is doing fine so far a little bit of a heater maybe inefficent. but i did have a problem with the amp but it may or may not have been my fault so this is my 3rd my first was doing just fine on mids but then i hooked it up to a small sub setup capable of handaling 1500 wrms and it just went into protect for no reason it was 2 ohm per channel. i got a second one and same thing. i think there was a sub shorting its coil out or something. probably not the amps fault but wouldnt recomm3nd it for subs anyway.
clinton michaels hmm well it could have shorted out the coil when it burnt but it should have went into protect. my coils didnt burn but i would be interested to know what happened to the amps.
That's why I only trust on OPTI Series even in SQ Midbass/Midrange competition we use this amps like Stetsom and Taramps they do great..also great 👍 video like always!
I remember Lanzar optidrive amps back in the early 90s. They weren't to be reckoned with they were pretty tough badass amplifiers. And for this amplifier being a Class A B it's a beast! It's hard to find a Class A B with that much juice
Like most I always wondered about these as the Vibe Series was cool for a budget system but of course we're overrated. I like how the original Vibes series (black ones) had a wattage that was reasonable sounding and then the latest (silver ones) are almost triple the power on the same chassis. But I knew Opti-Drive series had to do something more as there is a nice price jump. My questions have been answered. Great test. Keep the videos coming.
These are powerful amps. I accidentally bridged a 500x2 @ 1 ohm on 2 diamond audio d6 12's and holy crap....it was loud af....amp got hot...I rewired to 4 ohms, still loud enough.
the vibe series are seriously over rated......just at a store sponsored comp with a younger man there with 2 in his car.........he was extremely disappointed at the end of his run. he thought he had 4000 watts....ended up at 1500 watts. 750 an amp.
Nothing sounds better on subs than class Ab Amps especially if you got enough power like this beast, class d comes close to class Ab on subs but just not close enough but ofc majority pple just want spl and not sq, side note the output section gets hot cumause its class Ab less efficient means more heat, usually supply section doesn’t get that hot unless your pushing low ohms, class d amps get hot on the filter windings and transformers
I wouldn't do this if i was planning to use subs with this amp. Maybe with a cheapo band pass box thats centered around 80 hz. But using it for some sorta 3-way door or rear deck speaker. Would be somewhat usefull. Personally i use harrison labs 30hz high pass filter for sub sonic defeat. work ok.
It really seems like the OptiDrive series are really the only amps that are remotely capable of touching their rated wattage. Sad. Lanzar used to be awesome subs and amps. I had a Lanzar 12 that came in a wooden box lined with velvet and it had a combination lock on the lid! If that doesn't scream quality, idk what does. Even my Sundowns didn't come in a wooden box.
Good amp. Before taramps and Stetsom became popular for running 8ohm midrange speakers. This was the go to amp but a lot of people replaced them due to the heat it gives out
kevin tillack whasup bro,I wanna ask cause you seem to know abt these amps,I have the 500x2 with four 10 inch audiopipes 350rms each, how can I wire them to this amp to get the best sound without fukin up the amp, can you break it down to me,thanks
Well, having opened most any amp I've come across, there are some pros to this amp. I was surprised at what looks like 8 pairs of large (TO248 size?) Power mosfets w what looks like 2 pairs of bride mosfets of same size all used in the power supply side of the amp, 105c caps were nice to see too, but I personally would like to see some more used in the design. Now with 7 pairs of large footprint output mosfets (again maybe to248size?) The amp should able to output steady 1000 watts per channel with reliability heat wise. Nice copper buss bars and internal power wiring, and 4 large wound inducters. I'm thinking this might be 2 mono amps on the same board? What's unusual is the power supply ics in the center of the amp, wondering if the large one is a 3000 series or TL494, and what's the IC right next to it? All in all though it looks like a beefy amp, but I can't judge build quality without it in front of me....
Noticed the tape measure on your desk (thanks 55-inch 1080p TV that i rescued, lol) and wanted to ask: what's your opinion on Stanley tools? I have a few Stanley screwdrivers and they have been solid so far. Not cheap, but you do get what you pay for.
Hey! I just found your channel. I subscribed. If you haven’t tested it I was wondering about the hifonics x14 series. They are supposed to be true rms unlike most of their amps.
Mr. Blankenship, this is owner of this lanzar, Blake. Unfortunately i lost my FB and access to your group there, why i am trying to contact you on here. I have an amp you need to test, please sir. Audiopipe made a very similar korean designed amplifier which i think may be capable of more power and for the cost if so, is an unbeatable gem!
@@bradleycasady9810 i ended up getting a synergy efa 2k and trust me hands down its awesome and very powerful. i bet it puts out more then 2k js cause on my 2 americanbass 15s its rocking em hard and not even turned up half way.
Yeah, large and in charge! You want one of these behemoths, you better have some extra space. Better hulk up the old charging system too, cause this puppy can gobble up the electrons!
now can you test an opti4000d(the 1ohm model not the .5 model). I have the 11k and was told its got the same board as the Soundstream x3 14k and will do around 10.9k and everyone says the 7k does great at 1/.5 but the 4k and 6k and much less popular
yeah thats the .5 model which for some weird reson is like $150 cheaper than the opti4000. I know someone else suggested it to but if you could test a Soundstream T1.6000d that would be great cuz its a popular .5 stable amp and supposedly does 3k. I powered to 1500w ea 18s for over 2yrs with one and was impressed by the sound but I have no clue if it ever did near 3k. The prev model the ta3000 was the same thing and one guy clamped his at apprx 2300w but I'd like to see the dyno results. Another budget amp from a high end brand thats gaining some popularity is the Alphard Machete M2000D($270) would be worth testing.
Since Zed Audio is still in business why don't people buy their products since they were so good I am just saying also does anyone on here got some of Zed Audio older Gear ????
Ryan can you bench a amp for me and my friend we both been thinking bout getting BAMF 8000D yeah it probably does nothing around 8k but it has dual 4 gauge grounds dual 4 gauge positive terminals and 5 40 amp fuses if it makes 2000wrms that's good deal for $200 off eBay or a sound stream DL 4000 or 6000??? Thanks
There's absolutely no dynos of the electron sound stream amps there suppose to have old boards of true RMS ratings that the chrome spider amps had but also the BAMF you tested only had single 4 gauge and only 3 40amp fuses
Ryan Blankenship awesome yes I've owned a T1 6000DL for few years was wondering if should get another and strap it I have been running two 18s on it no problems but they need lots juice I guess that sums up what can expect out of it me and the friend was thinking about the BAMF 8000D just cause it had dual 4 gauge terminals and five 40amp fuses but does it do it? I was also wonder on a good cheap amp I see them on eBay 99 shipped PZA2000.1 four 30 amp fuses do you know if anyone else tested something like those crunch new amp waste of money the only one caught eye was four 30 amp fuses if does at least 1000wrms I go for it crunch been throwing high numbers on newer ones with like two 25 amp fuses we know that's a waste or a single 30 amp crunch 5000 lol
I've been repairing amps for long time now I enjoy what you do I just don't have expensive equipment setup like you but I always wonder what friends and friends amp really do I wish you lived close I rip car over with any amp just fixed my friend has a a1800dt five 30 fuses always been curious what it really does being old school it gets pretty loud on his team psi 18s I got ct 18s but it would just be so cool we lived close I'd be stopping over with a completed new model amp/brand you would be the dyno king
Everybody has their lines that span the gamut of absolute trash to decent stuff. In this case the Opti lines are quite good. Same store for Cadence. All of their stuff is junk but if you can get your hands on the ZRS series of amps (Korean boards) they are really impressive.
Wow. Being an Alpine guy, I always considered Lanzar in the same category as Kraco and Sparkamatic. For $200, and the power it put out. A tad bit impressed. But when you have 3 Alpine 3545’s, I’m definitely not gonna mount a lanzar beside them, lol.
This thing is a alt destroyer. I feel it could be way more efficient, all the opti lines are amperage sponges . These in my eyes are burp amps and that's it. Don't get me wrong they are good at burps but if you want to power say a bank of 18's for a party bus, they tend to smoke batteries and wire. I had better results running twice as many pioneer amps . You stated you don't know what you'd do with it ....I know what it's good for. Mount it in the middle of your car and use it as a space heater😂🤣😂🤣😂👏🙌♨️🌡️🔥
@@bigblank69 yes this amp is 2 ohm stereo stable....why didn't you run this amp on the Dyno at 2ohms in your video? Whats the Watts @2ohm on the Dyno ? Thanks for your feedback 👍 .
@@bigblank69 Thank you for taking the time to answer my question ! No, 2 ohm stereo is not exactly equivalent to 4 ohm mono(bridged)! Especially on all kinds of amps .
Pyramid, how did they even stay in business this long? That's the part I find amazing, I guess selling $10 amps and speakers adds up when they burn up after a week? Now that I know it's pyramid owned I'd never consider looking at Lanzar again. (I guess I never looked at it before this so nothing's changed). I wonder how many that own this amp have upgraded their electrical or even knew it draws that crazy amount of power before they bought it? There's way better amps with more output for 2 or 3x the price but half the cost to power them up. $200 budget amp tests that need $2000 alt upgrades to run (not the smartest build) need a banner with high current draw warnings so idiots running stock alts know why their amps and subs keep burning up before they talk shit about the brand.

Test that gravity audio 2 channel 8000 watt amp..i think its fairly new.
I still haven't seen LANZAR OPTI 7000 OR 11000.1 DYNO YET .
nice
300 amps! 😱🔋🔋🔋
And what was good about pyramid ? Nothing, except the SUPER PRO PPI amp. so how did pyramid make money to buy all these companies ?
I thought zed sued lanzar for a copyright?
Hot tssssssss!
Alpine 3545 my favorite amp of all time ran it 2 ohm bridged to my 2 12 skar evl subs its as loud as my taramps. Smart 3k only sounds way better.
Its class A/B... of course it's a alt destroyer.
I still want to see the opti 10000.1d on a dyno
Truth be told I'm bout scared to buy these amps . I went on an bought cresendo 12k last night
What's this amps RMS on the Dyno @2ohms?
At 2 ohms mono? This amp isn't made for that
@@bigblank69 yes this amp is 2 ohm stereo stable....why didn't you run this amp on the Dyno at 2ohms in your video? Whats the Watts @2ohm on the Dyno ? Thanks for your feedback 👍 .
@@bradleycasady9810 2 ohms stereo is equivalent to 4 ohms bridged. Divide the number by 2 and you have your number for 2 ohms.
@@bigblank69 Thank you for taking the time to answer my question ! No, 2 ohm stereo is not exactly equivalent to 4 ohm mono(bridged)! Especially on all kinds of amps .
Good deal
u should dyno a mrx-110 alpine amp
I’m not a big fan of class AB amps, they seem to work very hard and over heat to produce power when there pushed
You busted 1k subs 🤘 Test a 4 channel, Pioneer- 8604 for me :) Looking for a good mids amp that will do 100-150 x4.
Lanzar and orion were bought by the same company. Thats when ewuiprment started great again
The same people who bought Orion. Bought the Lanzar Pro line for international markets... most Lanzar amps on the market are still Sounds Around...
They did not buy the opti series
!
Cómo reparar las salidas de ese amplificador
Oh snap u got this for 177 bucks? I saw a 500x2 on ebay for $400
By the way since I believe you did not inform. This is A/B CIRCUIT
Trumps the D class sound always. You want tru great sound this is the amp
Can you send me all the model number for this series " Please"
? Sorry I dont have time to research this for you
@Budget Gem or Budget Bust
Really Dude ?! Do u see an " E ", in LANZAR ?
?
when u said Lanzar, it Sounds like Lanzer
Do you really care that much as to how I pronounce Lanzar?
hello dynamic range COMPRESSION PLEASE the intro music is to fucking loud thank you
no wonder why i thought they sucks ..... somebody else bought them out ..... ok ..... well they sucks now
tons of wasted space on the board, (Amp need not to as big) if they wanted..
It's a class AB amp... it's not as much wasted space as you think... your just use to seeing Class D guts
