Even though it tests much lower than advertised, on a non-amp system this made a HUGE difference in sound, bass, volume. It was crazy. Good enough for me, not needing to make up the world with a vibrating license plate sound. Hook it up to a system which has no amp, you will see a big difference.
The sad thing, about so many big name brands in car audio,is that at one time, they were great products to own. Boss, like so many others, have gone down the road of sales gimmicks and MAX power ratings. Back in the day. Steve Mantz(ZED Audio) designed and built alot of Boss Audio equipment, along with Planet Audio, Hifonics and more...being mainly amplifiers and crossovers. Is it really so hard, to be honest these days, and silk screen the real power rating's on their products, so a consumer knows what they're getting right off the bat? No, it's not...but to customers new to car audio, and the unknowing buyer..max power ratings sells products, and individuals can say they have high powered items.

This stuff is out there for people who buy this stuff in the millions. And then install it for their first time. The amps have tons of protection on them for the newbie who wired it up wrong etc. They also give a 5 year warranty. perfect if you end up mixing the polarity of the power terminals Etc. there's also another big reason why people buy boss and other so-called bargain-basement or budget brands that are widespread. It's because no one else will steal it . they're not going to break your windows and bother messing with your amplifier installation Etc. you also notice something about their other line of products like speakers. @@MickeyMishra You're sooo, spot the fuck on! About everything, these sell like hot bread. When the special edition was popular a kid from across where i worked hooked one up DIRECTLY to the house 120V AC and blew the thing and then just gave it away to me because who he brought it to couldn't fix it. It's been in a pile of other junk at my house for years and about a few weeks ago i was cleaning up and saw it, decided to take it apart and see what's up. Checked the 494 ic it was shorted, all the 44n mosfets were shorted or open, a few silicon diodes were shorted in the PWM circuit along with a cap. Changed them all out, the amp came on but in protection mode and then after awhile the LED just went out. Turns out there was a blown bipolar transistor that drives the 44n mosfet, changed it out and BAM! Green light, i have IT bumping a 12" in my house right now. Crazy!
At the time (6 years ago) when I got this "amp" for my kids civic it was on sale for dirt cheap, together with the little 10 inch sub it all came out to $150 bucks. The thing still bumps. All the kid wanted was a little bit more bass.
I too was one of the people that got tricked thinking that it was a real 1100watts. but at that time,10 years ago, I was just happy that it wasnt overheating like the previous walmart pioneer amp that I bought.
I had all the Boss purple amps back in the day 500/600/650/750 and they all worked awesome zero problems. If they would just say 180 watts 😂 we’d be good. Now sales would drop 🎉
Just bought it for $54 on Amazon. I just needed 100 watts RMS into 4 ohms to power a Clark Synthesis transducer. The CT was exactly twice as expensive.
True, but brands also ALREADY KNOW that people look at the fuses to determine if an amplifier is more or less powerful, AND THE BRANDS ARE ALSO USING HIGHER-POWER FUSES THAN THEY SHOULD. This poses a danger, as it can burn out some internal component.
That is sad I'm never going to buy boss products I have always been iffy about their products And this just proves my point that they're not very good I'm kind of curious what happens if you hook up an amp though to 24 V
Well, seeing how many of these have internal 16v caps and circuits, they cant handle much more than 16v. Better brands have 25v caps and regs and can handle 18v or more
Good cheap amp with a knob - my cheap kicker 12 only needs 75-150 RMS, so it does the job. Had one 10 years ago that had zero issues for 6 years pushin a 10...
A list of better amps the cost less would be cool . . I will say the protection circuit in a boss amp is very reliable you can give a boss to someone who has no idea what they doing they can wire it backwards and turn it on and it will protect it's self fix the wiring and it still works . But I still do not ever recommend boss to anybody ever or planet audio , or ssl or the other brand that they own under same company I can't think of right now .
