Goals are something you can check off a list: run a marathon, get married, have children... but knowing how to set goals and achieve them requires an understanding of more than just your goals: you must understand your values.
Values are the things we want to stand for the most.
So why are they both so important-and how can identifying your core values help you with goal setting and knowing how to achieve your goals?
Triple board certified neuropsychologist, Dr. Judy Ho walks through 4 simple therapy techniques to actually reach your goals (according to psychology) with MedCircle host Kyle Kittleson.

This approach is very much what Mental health Occupational Therapists do too :)
Woohoo ! I've been following this method for months now. Didn't know it'd be so precious that you'd do an entire video on it! Thanks anyways.
The meaning of pain in your life depends how you process (and manage) it. We have a lot of negative pre dispositions inherited through genes or developed from past experiences we didn't process and manage correctly which causes a negative bias to be rooted into your sub and non conscious mind. We can rewire our thoughts for a positive and healthy bias so when the pain comes (it always will), we can easily and quickly process it and manage it correctly.
I really relate to the part about honesty
Este es el consejo que me debían de haber dado mientras crecía. No hubiera perdido tanto tiempo tratando de complacer y cumplir los sueños de mis padres, y no los míos.
Me debo querer primero a mi y be truthful to my soul
Can you speak on agoraphobia brought about only secondary to BDD -Body dysmorphic disorder, which both came into existence by an abusive childhood? It does sound
very complicated and yet like dominos, each issue produced another issue. I would appreciate a more current perspective about these disorders, how they could all co-exist and relate to one another snd any advise on a way forward. Thank you!
Here's one problem with this approach: there are people, who are depressed because they have such strong values, that they can't live up to them. Trying to be moral all the time, always honest, fair, etc. is a way to make sure you'll always fall short and your inner critic always gets a chance to take you apart. At least that was my problem... I had to learn in therapy that it's okay to not always live up to your values and to be more patient with myself.
that sounds like the issue is a big ego
Thats why they’re values too and not a goal. You can’t archive being kind one time and then it’s done or then you’re kind forever. Values to me are something you strive for everyday and they are a constant challenge that make life worth living. If we all were perfect and didnt have problems to solve life would be empty
That does not mean you throw your values out the window though. That's not what she's talking abour
Uhm, ACT is not a universal approach applicable to everyone, you know?😅 In that case, your therapist would suggest another technique altogether
Is there a list of values?
Who else do relate ACT as a good therapy for OCD ?
My Clinician crush.
I think this world would be a better place if more people had the willingness to be puzzled.
👍
❤
My goal is to have a date with Dr Judy Ho. Is this advice applicable in that regard?
beautiful lady
😎
This feels like hr trying to improve your productivity
please make it known who it is that Kyle is talking to. That's not readily available in the title.
Do y’all had any Christian counseling into your teachings? I just got my BS in Christian counseling and am now in my masters in clinical mental health counseling, but I still really do want to eventually had Christianity into my future therapy. Also interested in EMDR as it truly changed my life dealing with combat related complex ptsd
not everyone will have the financial and life circumstance ability and access to follow values. Many will have to follow necessity.
Some of my top values are self-knowledge, ecology, growth, inner-peace and for me to take regular action on my values I dont require financials or special life circumstances
my goals rooted in my values is living life in all its fullness. this is something the Bible talks about
I wanna take him on a date lol
8:42 😯 Wait, i don't see it
When I watch american psychologists talking or giving a speech, it's all the same. They always seem to spread a notion of self acceptance, the pursue of happiness no matter what and to adjust to shallow values as a way to succed. The clinical results seem to fit the American Dream
American psychology is shining an apple with a rotten core.
Have u even watched this before commenting
@@renn__998 No, he hasn‘t... 🤷🏻♀️
So why did u leave the 3rd world...or are u still there
@@jeremysmith9694 can you explain your point?
