This scene and song does something to me, I cry every time. This is such a powerful scene, and for me it represents the fact that God has the final say. You can do whatever you want or feel however you want in life, but God has the final say. Despite her father's ill feelings toward Shug all those years, when God spoke to him in that moment, he had no choice but to surrender. When she said, "See daddy, sinners have soul too," omg that just breaks me down every time.
I know they don't explicitly say it but I think the choir soloist is Shug' s daughter. This scene is probably the best of the movie safe Celie's and Nettie's reunion
If you aren't crying when you watch this, you don't have a soul. Whether you believe or not, this touches something inside you. I love this scene because I have the same reaction every time I see it. We all want to reconcile with the people we love no matter what we/they have done and no matter how long we/they've been angry. Life is too short to let petty differences keep those we love away. Stop wasting time. Call someone you love, show them this and have a good happy cry together. :)
i love this song i could listen to it all day and all night you can realy feel this song when you listen to it because this is what people need in the world right now (he will speak to you if you need him just pray to him and he will answer your prayers)
This scene always makes me cry. Her family writes her off due to her lifestyle, but she shows back up doubling the congregation, and the phrase, "See, Daddy? Sinners have soul, too." She and her daddy were more alike than they thought, and there they are together, leading everyone home.
@justliketeflon this is one of my favorites as well, but I would have to say the part when Cellie and Nettie were seperated by Mister..now that killed me! I remember seeing it in the theater and there wasnt a dry eye in the house.
Personally I think the girl in the Choir is Daddy’s “good girl” NOT Shug’s daughter, but the but about her that touched me is when she (the choir singer just sort of went “I so do NOT have anything on my sister’s voice” and then just sang along
This movie is the BEST movie EVER made. It gets me by my throat every single time. It gives me hope....that there is good in most people.....even in mister..... Thank you Steven Spielberg for this precious jewel :-)
i've heard of few different stories about her voice in this scene. i 1st heard it was margaret avery: the actress who played shug avery. then i heard that the voice was dubbed with the magnificent singing voice of shirley caesar. if i find out 4 sure, i'll let u know!!!
that one line is the most powerful line in the movie. "See daddy? Sinners have souls too." this movie is a classic.

I wondered about that…or maybe sister?
@@kerrijohnstone7588 Shug did mention that her kids were with her parents. When she was drunk and delirious: " Children gots to have a pa'"

I think the girl in the choir is Shug's daughter.
Shug had 3 children with Albert
Impossible to be indifferent to Shug's reaction when her father embraces her. Beautiful scene and movie.

The house mix is amazing
John Patton Jr. (2-18-30 to 4-18-05) Bay area lyric tenor played Shug Avery's father. (Google)
I agree about the chills; don't forget the goose bumps!
Personally I think the girl in the Choir is Daddy’s “good girl” NOT Shug’s daughter, but the but about her that touched me is when she (the choir singer just sort of went “I so do NOT have anything on my sister’s voice” and then just sang along

I cry EVERYTIME I see this scene.
I wasn't prepared to randomly stumble upon this scene and cry today!
Tata Vega BODIED these vocals.
When she sings to audiences, even today, she gets disbelief.
I didn't cry, but I did indeed feel that touch. I rarely cry for anything, but that doesn't mean I can't feel.
that sure is an amazing song, nearly made me cry!
I really had no idea what was going on, but it was heart touching.
