Blk 628 Ang Mo Kio Hawker center is in my neighborhood. The coffee shop right next to the hawker center has a BBQ pork stall that offers a more delicious version of the BBQ pork than the one you guys had. Also, the hawker center has a stall that do up a pretty good pork fried rice.✌
You raised your kids so well! They’re well-behaved, well-mannered, very open to try without a word of complaint! I love how you venture out to try less touristy areas, and I realized wherever you go and whenever you place orders, you ask for your kids’ opinions, that’s wonderful parenting!
As a Singaporean, it warms my heart to see you exploring the heartlands and trying the foods like a local. Your kids are cute and very open to trying new things as well, awesome!
You are a very patient father, watching 3 kids can be very stressfull sometimes, but you always seem to have time for the 'problems' your kids from while to while do have and you never seem to be exhausted🎅
Love the way your family share drinks or food together, such a close knit family. Doesn't get more fun when your kids enjoy travelling and vlogging with you. Cedar's reaction to something that she dislike is sweet. 🤣🤣. All these are moments to cherish for a life time.
Thank you, for bringing viewers into our heartlands. This is the side of Singapore that tourists don’t normally see. We aren’t always expensive and luxurious. And more than often there’re hidden gems and good local food. I like that you and your kids were so appreciative and adventurous :) Cheers!
me and my wife are coming to sg in April and hope we meet some locals like we did the last time we visited 28 years ago on our honeymoon they showed us so much more than just the shiny bits
The kids are amazing! Very impressed with how adventurous they are with food! Food is a great way to experience and understand another culture! Enjoy your stay in Singapore!
Great job in going right into the heartlands instead of hanging around the regular touristy areas! You can be proud to say that you had a real Singapore experience here. This was as authentic as it gets.
Forrest has most loving and considerate big brother-sister duo❣️ The three children are amazingly composed and calmly-behaved even with the little one feeling, one might think, separation anxiety for mom❤️ that still was most natural feeling for him to have.
Haha watching them eat the Chwee Kueh (radish dish) and guessing the ingredients was so funny. This is a common local breakfast dish, the ‘veggies’ on top are preserved turnip. Happy to see the local market being explored… The kids are sooo adorable and well-mannered!
Really cool to see you guys work out what was in the kaya - and you were spot on! Coconut and Pandan (which is also in the green jelly noodles in cendol) Also the Chwee kueh (radish dish) you guys tried is really famous. The stall is called Bedok Chwee kueh and the original stall was awarded the Michelin bib gourmand in 2019 ;)
My first time watching this youtuber’s vlog & I like it 👍 Nice, respectful dad & very well-behaved children who helped give their honest opinions . I wish that there was a local to show you around & guide you in food choices. Glad you bought white( poached) chicken for the chicken rice dish but you missed out on thick soya/ black sauce which goes very well with the chicken. There are lots of other yummy local dishes that you & family should try. There are Malay & Indian hawker food . Oh.. you should have bought the radish ‘cakes’( chwee kueh) & take it back to the hotel for Kelly to eat. Wondering how many days more you’ll be staying in Singapore. Being new to your channel, I don’t know if you have been to all our wonderful places like The Zoo, Night Safari, Jewel, Gardens By The Bay, etc etc. All the best to you & your lovely family 🤗🌻
Hi Mandy. Thanks for so much for the many suggestions on places to visit. Unfortunately, this was a pretty short trip, but we plan to visit Singapore and Malaysia in the spring. :-)
@@BagsPackedFamily It's usually eaten like a breakfast snack item or a meal by itself. Like a hot starchy breakfast punctuated by savory radish and spicy chilli.
Tourists should venture more into the heartlands when they visit sg. Popular ones would be Ang Mo Kio, Woodlands, Yishun, Jurong, Tampines. There are shopping malls, hawker centres and local sights to see. If you're lucky there might even be a night market. Plenty of cheaper options compared to the cbd area. Don't just try chinese cooked dishes. Try out some Malay and Indian local dishes too. We are after all a multiracial country.
Wow this is where I go for lunch after going for my haircut every month! Super impressed that you guys managed to find this place. The chicken rice stall is also my favourite and the closed oyster omelette stall also sells delicious fried hokkien prawn mee as well. The carrot cake stall opposite the roast meat stall is pretty cheap and good. Do have a try if you come back
Hi there, you beautiful people I came across your channel while looking at some Singapore travel vlog. Thank you for walking down the memory lane with me. Like you, I left my birthplace Singapore and travelled around the globe working and funding my travels. Now, I am happily married and had settled in Australia for good. Come and say hello when you are down under. Hugs for the kids x
For the kaya toast it's actually 1 of 3 that belongs in a breakfast set. It typically consists of the toast, soft boiled eggs that you can dip the toast into (pepper and soy sauce optional) and a drink of your choice. The famous example is yakun kaya toast and its loved by almost everyone here and afar. Give kaya toast another try in that setting
You guys are such great parents and your kids are so well behaved and adjust to different cultures easily. Do hope you guys can come back to Singapore or even consider living here.
So wonderful to see a family, especially foreigners, enjoying the food at a local hawkers food center. The family that eat together stay together. The kids will be foodies, food experts when they grow up Hahaha
❤ and enjoyed watching your videos probably cause of your three cute lovely children. Real 😊 you and your family had enjoyed the food in the hawker centers you had been to.
Omg this is aweseome I stay at Blk 629 which is just beside 628 I was sick of the food there. Glad you guys get to try the real local instead of the tourist spot.
As a father myself my humble respect to you thou its not an easy task to entertain to your children needs what an awesome family, well mannered children, good parenting, good vlog speedy recovery to your wife GWS have a great holiday in s'pore.
Yes, the taxi driver is correct! Many of the neighbourhood hawker centres have pretty good food for low prices. Singaporeans love spicy! 😊 Kaya is pandan coconut jam, you are eating the bread wrong. You are supposed to eat the 2 pieces together like a sandwich. The last dish is rice cakes with preserved radish bits on top.
This is very local❤ For the chicken rice, Usually I will have three of the sauce mixed as my dip Chilli(red),ginger(yellow), dark sauce. The purpose of the ginger and chilli is to purge “the wind or cold” to balance up the food, According 😊to old folks The three pieces of white cake are make of rice and the name is “chwee kueh “ aka “water cake”. The brown stuff are dried pickle vegetable or reddish. Another one you may want to try is “fried carrot cake”, a very local food and kids will love them
I realized so many of the locals especially the elderlies are staring at your family in the video which is hilarious. At 8:30, the lady behind you was saying how both your son and daughter sitting across you look alike. 🤣
The radish rice dish is awarded Michelin though at a different location known as Bedok. But they are pretty much similar. I really like it too but wasn't able to eat it at Bedok as they are always sold out now early in the evening due to the Michelin award
You can get it at Bedok Interchange in the evenings usually. I always see long queue when I go there for dinner. There's another outlet at Chinatown hawker and other hawker centres.
If you are looking for oyster omelette, go to Seah Imm hawker center situated at the foot of Mount Faber opp. HarborFront Center linked by overhead bridge. I don't know whether the center is open eversince the renovation a month ago. There is a stall there that sells oyster omelette at only 3 dollars (before renovation) & is good.
Great video, Kids are loving it. Love how you are introducing them to ordering food etc. Keep it up. Forest will adapt as he ages ahha. Also on bubble tea the bubbles are filled with corn starch, kids should stay away from those.
The fried brown veg compliments that goes with chwee kuey l is turnip. I once remembered my mum saying the tiny cakes are not raddish but in actual fact rice grained to its finest form.
yes kaya, is coconut spread, if its green, its flavoured with pandan leaves essence. the yellowish brown one is just caramelised coconut jam, if u will.
The Pork Rice you guys ordered were Char Siew, a type of red sweet sauce glazed pork. Perhaps next time you guys can order roast pork rice. Btw, your kids are so adorable.
The chicken in Hainanese chicken rice is usually poached slowly then shocked in ice to achieve the springy texture. The broth used to poach the chicken is also used for cooking the rice and making the sauce. OH, I THOUGHT YOU WERE GETTING OYSTER OMELETTE??
