    Our Lomi broke one month after the one year mark of us purchasing it. My husband wrote them an email on Dec 15th saying it was cracked. Lomi wrote back on the 22nd saying cracks were normal and not to worry. On the 26th, my husband wrote them again about the fan which is no longer working, so we can’t use our Lomi. On Jan 2nd we were told that we’d need a new fan so we could buy it now or sign up for a service that extends our warranty and they’ll send us a new fan. We bought the extended warranty shortly after and wrote back on Jan 10th reminding them that we bought it and please send us the fan. We never heard back. Since the 10th my husband has written them three additional times and called them (during business hours, and can’t get through) and it has been two weeks and we still haven’t heard back. We expected far better customer service for a product of this price and after buying the extended warranty. I would strongly consider buying from a different maker.

    I agree with the criticisms of this product. The simplest method I’ve found for odor-free kitchen composting is to throw in a handful of earth (from a bag of potting soil) onto your banana peels and vegetable peelings. This prevents an door of rot from developing, and keeps the fruit flies at bay. I have an outdoor compost bin, so the kitchen stuff-plus-its-handfuls-of-earth goes into that when the small container in the kitchen is full. It works. I know-not everybody has a backyard; not everybody can do home-composting, but for those of us who can, there is no need of an expensive machine that uses a lot of electricity and doesn’t produce usable compost.

      We can appreciate this, however, Lomi creates compost in just a matter of hours! So instead of having your compost sit and not having enough room to store it inside, this solves that problem as well as being the first home appliance to able to decompose bioplastics!

      It's a good idea to start with, however I do see room for improvement.
      I've composted for years (and plan to again when I can get a system going in our new place) the old fashioned way.
      Now I know Lomi can break down biodegradable plastics but how about meat bones (like beef or pork ribs bones, maybe chicken bones)? Maybe reusable filters that can be handwashed?

    • @afrotier
      @afrotier 2 года назад +1

      That's a good thought. It's a machine so it's not going to go through the natural process that includes a lot of microorganisms but there probably are some in its activated charcoal, but it probably IS grinded up and dehydrated. Either way it IS technically a form of composting, just done in a fast and convenient way for those who can't or don't maybe want to spend the time to learn to do it. My thoughts are: at the end of the day it seems to help a little by giving compostable foods and materials a chance to be used back in gardening rather than being dumped in a landfill to rot, in the scrap state that they're in.

      It chops vegetable waste into smaller pieces via a motorised action, then bakes those smaller pieces, driving out the moisture. The result is powdered, dessicated vegetable matter. Later, if it’s introduced to microbes in healthy soil, it will rot to become compost. (Or just put your vegetable waste in a compost bin and leave it there for nature to do everything. That way, you won’t have to pay for the Lomi unit or the electricity it consumes.)

The waste problem is large and dynamic, any movement in helping lessen that is a good thing. While these items might already break down- we have to take into account the methane created in that process, the emissions created in collecting, transporting and processing from our home to facilities, as well as the space that is taken to store as it breaks down.

    I think it only dehydrates the good waste. There is no way microbes can break anything down this fast. It's just a selling point for people who don't know much about compost. Instead of calling this compost, why don't y'all just say you shrink food waste to smaller size and it's used for seeding the soil? If this is truly compost, can you grow anything in just it? (I know the answer: no).

    Your newest commercial is freaking rude. Kitchen composting is not a nasty, slimy, bug infested process that requires a switch to your product. Yes, I have deal with a little bit of ick, but I do it because I know I’m doing the world a favor, not because someone made it easy for me. If you are going to advertise to me calling my composting methods gross and perpetuating the idea that it’s too unappealing for the average person to do, I won’t be supporting your business.

    What is changing the world was as easy as putting the lid on this monstrosity? I have a masters degree and my husbands an engineer, and we spent 45 minutes trying to get the lid on this monstrosity. I would not recommend you buy this product. If I were to review it, I would give it a one because spending 45 minutes putting a lid on the product is baloney.
    You think you have an easy way out with your garbage, but lonely, proves you do not. I would not recommend it. I am extremely agitated and angry. I just wasted a lot of time. Don’t bother with it. It’s not worth it.

    Another silly commercial anthropomorphizing a machine into a "friend" to sell an unnecessary product. It might work, but I'm left wondering how this machine and it's manufacture, shipping, and operation could truly decrease a person or family's carbon footprint over ordinary responsible organic composting.

    Notice how the commercial chose all male actors to take out leaky garbage? 😂 Bc those mess don't happen to women. Lol... But all jokes aside, compost is easy. Just put your food waste in a bin outside and it will decompose over time... Or just burry them in the plant. No need for a fancy machine.

    I understand thise living in apartments in major metroplexes but still yet let it go & let the birds & worms have it. For the rest of us, why would we let anything sit around in our kitchens for days, kind of like the famoymus diaper geni, just dont. When you finish your meal find a spot in yoyr yard, keep a shovel at that spot, dump the food & tirn over rhe soil, takes 2 minutes. Problem with todays society, people want everything right now. I dont see this as ecologically helpful. I see this as more plastics manufactured that pretty quick people will ture if, tiss in a corner, eventually pawn off on someone or eventually set in the garage sale, wgere it may make a few rounds & then eventually end up in the land fill itself. And what about the all day power usage it will require, us that ecologically friendly?
    In urban cities they have access to recycling bins with their trash service & recycling centers. In rural communities most do not & it this would go straight to the trash but we have yards or land to bury compostabke material that will break diwn naturally without the use of electricity or filling landfills with senseless appliances. Buy a blender uf you must & for the larger items just recycle & let the big boys that get paid to do this earn their money.
