    We live in Alaska and just bought a Lomi. Thank you for the review. I am trying to use my Lomi soil for all kinds of plants, not just houseplants, and am excited to utilize the small space I have in my condo.

    I love my Lomi! Just a quick comment on your rating ‘deduction’ for having to buy more charcoal and pods…. I look at like using my dishwasher, or doing my laundry… I have to buy soap in order to use those machines. 😊. Great video!!!

    I have used more than 1 year, once it broken down, they sent us replacement part. After that it was OK.
    I keep greens, left overs in other container, so it smells. When Lomi on works. Sometimes it gives sour smell.
    It means Time to change charcoal. They keep sending replacement charcoal, and compost accelerate tablets every few month.
    Lomi is large. It is larger than my biggest stockpot. Even though I have spacious countertops, don’t want to put it in my kitchen. I went to laundry room.
    Result Compost sticks on the container occasionally. That creates headache. When I put banana peals, potato skins, it seems happen. If you don’t take care of this hardened disc shape compost, blade will stop moving.
    Hot water will dissolve stuck compost. I use shovels to dig up hardened compost sometimes.
    Still, I love my Lomi.
    I sprinkled Lomi Compost on every plants outdoor and indoor plants, don’t use it when half cooked.
    You will get fruits fly. End products smells almost like chocolate. Very pleasant smell.
    I really recommend, I loan mine to my friends to let them experience.

    Great audio and video quality. I wouldn't bother with the soundtrack background music. Those reoccuring expenses of $80 every few months is a buzzkill. I've got land, so I'm gonna stay with traditional composting, but I can see if you live in a rented apartment, it could be appealing. Thank you for explaining everything so well. Great review thank you! I found the same issue where if I put too much on house plants and didn't mix it in, it got really funky, really fast. We run out lomi in a closet under the stairs and I have never used the pellets and have yet to change the carbon filter (waaayyy past the recommended change date) and while there might be a little odor while it's running, it's mostly a mild organic smell that I don't catch any other time.

    • @winnipegnick

    Thanks for sharing your experience! Can you buy charcoal from anywhere but not lomi to refill? If you run it eco mode and have a big compost bin for further compost, do you still need to put lomiPod?

    • @tenneyplants
      @tenneyplants  9 месяцев назад

      I've heard of others having success using activated charcoal from elsewhere, but I haven't personally tested it out. And I don't think you necessarily would need a lomipod for your scenario you described. It's mainly used to help with microbes so if you're doing eco-mode and putting into your compost, I don't think it'd need that extra boost.

    I added my Lomi compost to ALL my houseplants and mold developed AND fungus gnats. I had to throw out many of my plants. I removed the Lomi compost from the tops of the plants which had solidified into hard patties. I now have a bucket of Lomi compost. I am concerned that when I incorporate it into my outdoor garden soon in May, I will get the same problem. What do you think?

    • @tenneyplants
      @tenneyplants  2 месяца назад

      That's a really great question! From my conversations with other Lomi users and my own experience, it works much better outside than inside. When outside it can be spread out more and there's much more air circulation outside than inside so the mold doesn't form. So I wouldn't be too worried about using it outside :)

    Very good review by an actual user. I am always skeptical of new trendy products because these companies come and go. You spent $400 and in a few years if the company is gone where do you get the charcoal and special tablets? Time will tell.

      I was curious about that as well, I have activated charcoal granules all the time in big containers due to having a really huge fish tank. I use it on my aquarium filters. So if I can just use those, it would be awesome. I haven't bought the Lomi "yet" but I am seriously considering it now after her review. I had seen a commercial for it just now and was amazed by it. At the same time though I didn't believe it really worked, so I came to youtube to see reviews. I'm sold now! Can't wait to get one. I live in an apartment and it would be a huge help for my indoor plants.

    Great video. You need to look at different lighting. The ring lights are distracting when they reflect in your glasses, and I found myself rewinding the video. Maybe that's good for repeated views? Ha.
    You can buy an entire box of compost accelerator for $10 at your local hardware or garden center. It's probably the exact same thing except it's not in tab form. I would definitely give it a try. Just add a half teaspoon and run the Lomi and adjust based on the results.
    60dB? I just junked our old dishwasher and replaced it with a 42dB version. The old one would wake me up in the middle of the night (when we ran it). That's way too loud for a counter appliance. Our bread maker only clocks in at 50dB and it's stupid loud. There's no way this should be louder than a machine kneading dough.
    Thanks for the info. I'll save some money and pass until it's made quieter.

    kilowatts is not a unit of energy. It is a unit of power. Saying that something uses so many kilowatts in a day is as nonsensical as saying that the distance between San Francisco and Los Angeles is 60 mph. At 500 watts, running the Lomi for 5 hours requires 2.5 kWh of energy. 1 kWh is the total energy used when 1 killowatt of electricity (a unit of power) is consumed for one hour. PowerXTime = Energy or, for those more mathematically inclined, the integral of Power over time is equal to energy.
    A pound of food waste can create 3.8 lbs of methane gas according to a website I viewed. I don't know where all the carbon comes from...maybe CO2, in which case we would be reducing CO2 and adding methane, and methane is worse.
    In my city, green waste is sent to a composting facility which then makes the compost available for only $25 per cubic yard. A cubic yard of compost weighs about 1250 lbs! How many years and how many kWH and how many Lomi pods and activated filter refills would it take the Lomi to create 1250 lbs of compost? Plus, the gasses our local composting facility create are captured and used to fuel a fleet of trucks.
    So, from a personal finance perspective, this thing seems to me to make zero sense. From an ecological perspective, I think you could better use your money to preserve rainforest which will have a much larger effect on greenhouse gasses plus preserve biodiversity. According to the Rainforst Trust, forest land can be preserved for as little as $5-$10 per acre.
    I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer here, but the planet is in trouble and it is important that we use our resources in the best way possible. I just don't see the Lomi as doing that. It might make you look cool to your friends, though, if virtue signaling is what you are all about.
    If your community has a large-scale composting operation, that is probably way more green than the Lomi and it is certainly more cost effective.

    • @julietuttle1608
      @julietuttle1608 6 месяцев назад +1

      You are correct, but have you ever tried putting your food scraps into a crappy, I’ll fitting lidded big plastic garbage municipal garbage can for “green waste” as required by your city or county? It attracts rodents, flies, roaches and sits outside in the hot sun in the summer, stinking up your tiny yard and draws flies like crazy!
      Not everyone has room outside to compost and this is the next best thing to help solve the problem and keep compliant with the local government’s mandatory composting mandate.

    Sorry, but there's a lot of false/misleading stuff in this post. The Lomi produces CO2 the same way waste in a landfill does. Bio-decomposition does that, no way around it.
    And the poster needs to learn the difference between a kilowatt (kW) and a kilowatt hour (kWh) before talking about energy consumption.. Comparing this thing to a microwave is silly. Who runs their microwave 24/7 ? Time-of-use is a thing.
    I could go on but pretty sure that would be pointless.
