It’s not that Quinn doesn’t acknowledge that she is the beauty standard but that she has to stay ahead of the curb. Constantly being told she’s the beautiful one makes her self-conscious to the point where she feels she has nothing more to offer.

I seriously cannot express how much of an impact Daria had on my self-confidence and ability to just be okay with feeling like an outsider "weirdo". The show was definitely made with a different framing than if it had been made in the present, but I love that there's still love for the show, even now 💚. Fun fact: During the Romantic era (18th century Europe) many painters would choose models with aquiline noses. There are many paintings with the side profile to show it off. That’s why beauty trends are complete nonsense. One day it’ll be in and the next day it’s out. All my fellow aquiline nose folks just know that we look cute (in a good way)

i hate that plastic surgeons are on sm nowadays trying to be influencers and being less than subtle in implanting a sense of insecurity and suggestions of the necessity of cosmetic work into the minds of young people who are already inundated online by images of people at their absolute best, under filters, etc., completely removed from the reality of what people look like.
i think this episode captured how the entire cosmetic surgery industry is just a scam exploiting vulnerable people and their insecurities for sake of $$$. having dr shar be a woman (who also seems to have had work done) also contributes to the sense of this internalized self-destructive cycle for women and girls where we tear each other down in response to societal pressures.
    thnx for the video 👍

Plastic surgery is a large umbrella term that covers a lot of things that in cases are necessary and life saving such as reconstructive surgeries, fixing things like heir lips, and transgender affirmation surgeries. There certainly is scumminess for sure, but there are shades of grey in most everything.

    • @SuigetsuIsArt

@SuigetsuIsArt it just really felt like you were saying that the industry as a whole was evil or something. There is a lot of stigma against people who go into study medicine to go into plastic surgery as those people being vultures or just there for money and it makes people who are actually good doctors shy away from the profession which adds to the problem.

Wait... you think Jane was being mean to Quinn (towards Quinn) by saying that? I interpreted that as making fun of the whole thing: *according to Dr Char* Quinn needed $6,000 worth of plastic surgery, while Daria needed plastic surgery... TO LOOK LIKE QUINN! I interpreted that as Jane realizing that it was all bullshit.
(Maybe Jane was mean to/about Quinn in general? It's been a while since I've watched the show... but in this specific instance, I don't see that as criticizing Quinn in any way, it's criticizing the plastic surgery industry... maybe beauty standards in general.)

Im Brazilian, what people usually call "pardo" here (mixed) and since i remember when i was a child, my mom and sister talking about wanting get rid of their noses and face shapes(they have more round faces and indigenous/black noses). I was brought in this environment where no one liked their self image and talked about plastic surgery CONSTANTLY, about how beautiful the white women from southeast and south from Brazil are beautiful and how they need to look more like them
Gotta say, that took a toll on my mental health obviously

There's a whole level of somewhat insidious implications in Dr. Shar's line, "Money can make anyone beautiful." There are a lot of videos on RUclips examining the "You're not ugly, you're just poor" idea. I don't think this was the right episode for Daria to examine this idea but the show is definitely set in an upper middle class population and it really doesn't acknowledge the socioeconomic advantages the characters have. That's a missed opportunity imo.

Kidology has a perspective I really like about plastic surgery. She basically said that plastic surgery can be good for a woman but plastic surgery isn't good for women as a whole. Because, yeah there's no reason we should look down on people modifying their bodies if they want to. A tattoo is something many people decide to get and that modifies their body. But plastic surgery to fit into a standard is not good for society as a whole because of how it's reinforcing that there even should be a standard and is not accessible but kind of creates the illusion of being accessible to some degree.
I do realize now that the point about Kevin bribing people to like his 'ugly' look is a lot more thoughtful than I originally gave it credit. Yeah, it's definitely presented as a joke but it's kind of true to a degree

@@themudpit621 that's true and natural for many classics. What makes Daria unique is that it's very humane in how it treats it's characters. Jodie is still relatable to black girls nowadays who feel they must be "perfect" in order to be respected. Jane's wit can be appreciated by anyone from any generation that appreciates acerbic humor. Daria's militant rejection of a systemically myopic, oppressive, materialistic, apathetic, and shallow society is probably more aspirational to Gen Z than it was to their parents, Gen X.

I think Jane said that about Quin to make Daria feel better since she's often compared to her and she probably feels insecure about herself compared to Quin. Like in the episodr where Mr. O'Neal gave Daria an extra assignment to write a story about people in her life and her mother said "Why can't you be more like Quin." Or when Quin made being a brain popular and it made Daria feel more insecure about her status, or even when Daria got contacts. It's apparent throughout the series that Daria has low self-esteem and she hides behind sarcasm and snark.

Daria actually went deep while pretending to simply be surface level into a lot of what teens and women in particular struggle with throughout their development. This was solidified for me when I rewatched Daria as an adult. Particularly when watching the later seasons when they delved deeper into Daria and Quinn as sisters.
The reality was Daria and Quinn both struggled with being attractive AND extremely intelligent. The reality was Daria was ALWAYS equally yolked with Quinn in the looks department-this was hinted on in earlier seasons. Particularly one when Quinn was being recognized for her intellect and in a desperate attempt to be with Quinn the boys who worshipped the ground she walked on-realized Daria actually resembled Quinn. There’s episodes that delve into their childhood when they lived in Texas-cos fun fact Daria was a spin off of Beavis and Butt Head as was King of The Hill. Daria was very pretty/cute as a child but extremely socially awkward. She couldn’t hide her disdain and mask her disapproval of others only associating with her for her looks. It got to the point where her parents were actually contemplating divorce because they couldn’t deal with her and Quinn’s intellect. Daria actually had a nervous breakdown. She heavily repressed the memories and drastically hid and minimized her looks from that moment on. It comes out that Quinn DIDN’T. That particular ordeal became a life changing moment for Quinn. She actually felt so bad for Daria and at the same time she became scared for herself. Quinn decided to play the dumb pretty girl role. There were even a few random episodes where Quinn’s mask slipped and her intelligence showed and no one clocked it at the time. It’s actually wild how they developed based on how society over valued looks and under valued intelligence in women even during that time.

Daria is one of those gems that is basically timeless. It tastefully tackles systemic issues of modern life. It gives valuable life lessons but also doesnt shove it down the audiences throat like a kids show. There arent many cartoons like this that cater to the 'teen/young adult' sector.

I love how Dr Shar is so obviously ridiculous and predatory. These are teenage girls, as Daria said, they will 'grow out of it' and they don't need to get expensive and damaging procedures just to be praised by other shallow teenagers. What's even scarier is the fact Brooke's parents allowed her to have not one but two surgeries! They must have money and have no problems with putting their daughter under the knife, twice! for the sake of being seen as desirable. Isn't that sick?

Stacey is actually Quinn’s friend, it’s just that she tries too hard to be liked, and her insecurities get the best of her. She’s the one who secretly kept the caricature drawing the others were in such a tizzy about. Tiffany is a little backstabber, we saw her make derogatory comments to both Quinn and Sandi about the other. Tiff is also not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and I really question how she got out of elementary school by being as clueless and oblivious to everything around her.

I'm glad you made a point to emphasize the systemic issues of plastic surgery over the individual issues. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I feel like the pendulum has swung hard the other way in regards to how people perceive plastic surgery and the people who get it. While it was definitely glamorized in the 90s, I find that people these days are quick to judge others as vain or ugly for getting surgery, even if the results were successful. That's also what I appreciate about this Daria episode. It doesn't depict the desire for plastic surgery as a mere character flaw or a moral failing, it actually shows the psychology behind it and how the industry takes advantage of it.

One of my favorite long-term aspects of this show is the relationship between Daria and Quinn. In the beginning, Quinn is the closest this show gets to Daria having a direct regular antagonist. But since Daria actively aggravates Quinn as much as the reverse it never reaches that level. By the end of the series, even if they haven't become actual friends they've developed more genuine sisterly affection for one another.
It's interesting to see their characters examined over the show as you eventually see that, as different as the two sisters are, at their core they actually have a lot in common. It's shown that Quinn actually isn't dumb and Daria isn't ugly, and they can crossover into the other's territory whenever they choose. They also can both, in their own way, hold strong personal principles and values. So their characters become an interesting compare and contrast of two young women assessing the social pressures of being a teenage girl and how they choose to respond and deal with those pressures.

The part about Dr Shar finding several imperfections to fill her pockets really needs to be said out loud nowadays.
Whenever I express a similar opinion, people get upset saying that people should be allowed to choose what they do to their body. That's not what I would ever say but the way it's marketed has gone too far. It's still surgery, so selling it like people sell face creams is absurd.
One remark about the butt size and "white" culture. I wonder, if the small bottom is more of a WASP thing, rather than all of the people currently considered "white". My parents are originally from Eastern and Southern Europe and bigger bottoms and hour-glass figures have definitely been celebrated for a while in those cultures. As a skinny teenager (and dieting, because I never felt thin enough), I would always be told to eat more because my butt would turn skinny and "nobody wants that".
My mom had a 66 inch waist and 45 inch hips and she was always considered extremely beautiful in her culture. well, everywhere, really, but the figure was particularly appreciated in the East and South of Europe. Even during the Jane Fonda aerobics craze of the 80s or whenever that was.
(also, we all know that "white" is not as stable as some people think anyway, see Irish and Italians in the US in the past)

I don’t know that I would call it an unfair comparison. I’m not sure how you feel about the term gender dysphoria, but body dysmorphia does not discriminate.
if you already have a stark inability to see yourself the way you feel on the inside, I think that’s a great equalizer between us all. I’m a super feminine person, but I’m also a black woman (so when men get mad at me online, they like to call me a man) I’m moderately androgynous if I am bare. It’s hardly about what other people think, but I just don’t feel as feminine with arms and shoulders like mine and have officially decided to get Lipo so I can have the appearance I feel. I have trans friends who have gained such joy and increased safety due to their surgeries. Two, I think of immediately, who became absolutely effervescent. “Just not ugly” not being enough it’s something I totally get.

Safe procedures are SUPER important! Plastic surgery is commonly performed on people that have undergone traumatic and disfiguring events, or have a physical defect that interferes with daily life! Hell, botox treats migraines!! Plastic surgeons and surgery get such a bad wrap, but I know a lot of people would be quick to ask for skin grafts from a burn accident or a nose job for a deviated septum impacting breathing. They are medical procedures, its not really anyones place to judge someone for getting it.

No, scars are not medical issues! But it's nice to have the option! Plastic surgery is not the villain, having for profit clinics that minimize the risks associated with these surgeries are! People would get these surgeries less if they really knew the risks! At the end of the day, ALL surgeries are a personal choice made between you and your doctor

Not only is it expensive, but it also doesn’t last long.
Looking back on the show, though I understand Daria and Jane’s points of view (yeah, I was kindof like them growing up. Kevin’s experiment might be different if he had any redeeming qualities. Brittany doesn’t even like him as a person. Mac tolerates him and that’s probably the only person who spends time with him not for social standing. I wonder how it would have been with a more likeable person. Probably not massively different as nobody gave Kevin a chance to speak. But the way Kevin likes to get people’s attention is quite abrasive
I’m under the impression that Stacey does really like Quinn but she’s scared of Sandy and also the most insecure out of them so less likely to handle any criticism.

    • @Quinn_M97
      @Quinn_M97 3 месяца назад +5

Kevin’s behavior is a product of his environment and how he was raised. The episode Mart of Darkness gives a lot of insight into to this. Kevin acts just like father, abrasive, rude, and only cares about sports. His mother is the stereotypical “boy mom” who dotes over her son. She’s also jealous of Brittany and Kevin’s relationship as a lot of “boy mom” type of women hate their son’s girlfriends. His father also lives through Kevin because it was implied that he was also a football star in high school but his athletic dreams were ruined due to having Kevin at such a young age. Kevin’s father was trying to force Mr O’Neil to pass Kevin even though he was failing. Kevin is the stereotypical athlete who was coddled his whole life, worshipped for playing sports, and never told that he was wrong about anything.
Lawndale is an extremely accurate depiction of how life is in small towns. These places normally only value their sports teams and have a very narrow mindset on society and social norms.
As far as Quinn and Stacey’s relationship goes, Stacey is the only nice girl in the Fashion club. It’s shown that Quinn knows this because there was an episode where her parents were going out of town and Helen said Quinn can choose one friend to stay over. Quinn chose Stacey which upset Sandi. Sandi constantly brings down Stacey because she’s jealous of her and knows she has low self’s esteem and won’t stand up for herself. Sometimes girls only befriend other girls because they view them as threats. In my opinion Stacey is the prettiest girl in the group and if she didn’t have such low self esteem she wouldn’t hang out with them.

Like Dash from Danny Phantom.
But Kevin isn't usually an antagonist, and it sounds like he was raised to not have any self-awareness. Therefore, he has a harder time actually examining his upbringing and how it's affected him. It's hard to refect on how your problems got started and how to fix them when you're like Kevin.

They were only good at sports in a small town, they couldn't compete at higher levels and so when they graduated that one skill they had suddenly became worthless. No one cares that you were an okay quarterback at Nowhere High School. And most of them were so coddled that even getting a certificate to teach gym was beyond them.
And as you said, they can't look inward to correct these problems because they don't know how to and are now way passed the point where they could have been taught how to do that.

The episode is definitely pertinent in today's time. Daria was in 1997 and from what I recall, the talk of plastic surgery was not all that common but in the turn of the 2010s when the whole Kim Kardashian influenced plastic surgery trend really swept America and now you have women talking more about how they feel like they need plastic surgery. I have a coworker who is 6 years younger than me (I'm 32) and she talks quite a bit on how she feels she needs to get certain plastic surgery procedures done when she really does look fine. And I see discussions of younger women doing the same thing like how they need to get a nose job or get their lips done and they're only in their 20s and even late teens and it's just truly disturbing because there was no talk like this 15+ years ago, at least not to this extent.
Also it shouldn't be a surprise that the whole BBL, super voluptuous curvy build is not seen as super attractive to eurocentric beauty standards, Caucasian women typically had smaller frames and that was celebrated in most of the modern decades from the 1920s flapper girl to the 1960s Twiggy look and even the 1990s Heroine-Chic look. So it's not surprising to me that in most European countries, the super voluptuous enhanced look won't really have the popularity it has in other places like South America and Africa.

This is where the show clicked for me.
There's something realistic to Daria and Quinn needing one another, but not out and out saying it. Quinn's insecurities are amplified, not because she's shallow, but because she's wanting to be as shallow as the FC. She knows she's not, she's actually pretty clever. She says at the end of the ep 'people are so shallow' - granted, that’s because they won't give her what she wants - but she's not stupid enough to ignore Daria's 'you've got the kind of looks that make other girls mentally ill' speech. Yeah, Quinn doesn’t sound like she listened to this, but there’s something working beneath the surface.
Her argument against Sandi (who's petulant out of malice and envy) is pretty eloquent, but emphasises that intellectually, she's out of step with the rest of the FC.
When they go to visit Dr Shar, Quinn asks "Can I get a couple of these (the pictures of what she'd look like with PS) wallet-sized?" It’s my belief that Quinn never intended to follow through on getting surgery. She just wanted to show how she would look, and be comparable to the FC. That's until the coven get their nose jobs, and she again wants to fit in, so asks Daria to make up BS to her parents to get the cash. Plus, when they visit Dr Shar, Quinn isn't badgering Daria. She's not saying that Daria needs anything done, which Daria pretty much repeats to Quinn at the end of the episode after the FC have their nose jobs. These two do keep one another grounded, and I appreciate the show revealing this in a subtle manner.
These two have a strong sense of self because they possess two exceptional qualities. One, they're aware of their flaws. Daria lives by a rigid philosophy that causes her to be caustic in the face of actual fun, and judge people prematurely - see her conversation with Jodie in 'Gifted'. Quinn would rather be popular then step out on her own, which is sad. Because that’s human nature. And two, they can spar quite successfully with a rival, Sandi being Quinn's and Daria's being whoever she feels like having for breakfast that day. They're very alike, but employ their smarts to different ends to ensure they get what they want and stay true to themselves, though this is a struggle.
So yeah, definitely clicked here. I really like Quinn because she strikes me as pretty hardy and resourceful. Unlike Daria, she's snared in a shitshow that she chose the moment she left Jake's car. In time, I think she'd be Daria's ideal version of Daria.

Jake is such a weak, shallow character. He had some of the least character development in the show.
Kevin is another poorly developed character. Despite his regular appearance, he habitually falls back into his boneheaded ways with very little consequence.
If you watch the episode “Psycho Therapy”, you see Daria pegs each one of her family members accurately including herself. That speaks to how sharp Daria’s observation skills are.
I think Jane shares Daria’s attitude towards Quinn, and sees her in the same critical way, the same way they both talk about classmates like Kevin, Brittany, and Upchuck. It’s how they bond. They see The Circus unfolding before them and share their reactions. With Daria being a writer and Jane being an artist, watching what goes on around them feeds their creative outlets.

Great video, though I do disagree a bit with your point at 5:10 -- that Jake telling the girls that they're all beautiful is good and something some people need to hear. Yes, confidence is important, but I felt that the point of the episode was more about how not just beauty standards themselves are harmful, but that the idea of beauty being inherently tied to a person's self-concept and self-worth is harmful and feeds into the predatory nature of the beauty industry. Jake telling Quinn and Daria that they all look great does nothing to help Quinn's self-image issues because it doesn't address the core of the problem -- that Quinn believes she has no value if she isn't beautiful, and that her value as a person will decrease if other women are just as beautiful as she is. Quinn and Daria are foils in that they both approach beauty and desirability differently, with Daria critiquing the standards and Quinn chasing them. To me, Quinn's decision to bring Daria to Dr. Shar's office as moral support exemplifies this theme, as Quinn values Daria's 'honesty:' AKA her ability to see and value Quinn as a person despite her looks.
In the end though, the only way Daria can think of to try and comfort her sister is to tell her she looks perfect instead of telling her that her looks shouldn't be tied to her self-worth. Neither Daria nor Quinn can escape the social norms of one's beauty defining one's worth, and though in a perfect world that wouldn't be true, beauty still defines how people are treated.

Yeah Jane going after Quinn is very strange. Me and my sister have a relationship very similar to Quinn and Daria. She was always very poster girl for teenagehood who always had a large friend group that would always plan fancy hangouts together (ofc my sisters friends actually get along) meanwhile I have a singular friend with whom I do very basic things with like sit around and talk with.
I will often vent about my sister and we both laugh about the things she and her friends do; like going to grad parties of people she doesn’t even know or going to new cafes that have bad food just bc they’ll have a place to dress up for; but my friend never jokes about her appearance or makes other jokes that seem a bit too familiar.
Overall both Daria and Jane can be very antagonistic towards others in speech or in action. But Jane not even being a bit kind to Quinn was always a bit weird. Jane treats Quinn like Kevin and Brittney and not her best’s friends sibling. Which is weirder considering how even in spite of Darias crush she is respectful to Trent, while Jane will brush off Quinn very quickly. But maybe that’s just me projecting my standards and boundaries onto these characters.

    • @alissajadyn
      @alissajadyn  4 месяца назад +11

This is exactly how I feel about it. Like even with my closest friends I’ll vent about my siblings but there’s a boundary. I feel like your friend’s family is like an extension to them.
In this case, Quinn isn’t the kindest to Daria either but it’s not like their enemies. There’s still love there. I just wouldn’t put myself in the middle of that if I was Jane. Plus she’s younger so it’s kinda like little sister stuff lol

    • @thesoradog
      @thesoradog 4 месяца назад +9

I don't find it that weird specifically because it's Daria and Jane. Daria values honesty, critical thinking and unfiltered thoughts above most things. This sort of interaction is how Jane and Daria can be so inseparable on a general basis. Daria finds Quinn's struggles to be petty and vain and mocks it because there should be much more important things to worry about, so much that she can't be bothered to worry about it herself most of the time and prefers to be cynical about it. Jane thinks the same way, and provides similar sarcastic comments on how Quinn acts, along as every other student at their school. Daria doesn't extend this to Trent not solely because of her crush, as you mentioned, but because he seems to have similar outlooks on certain things, and can find a certain kinship with him, which is partly where her crush stems from.
It's also important to check that Jane doesn't outright insult Quinn. She jokes sarcastically about how ridiculous she finds her to act. She speaks of the fashion monster phenomenon rather than of Quinn as a person, just as Quinn doesn't regard her as a human being. I think Daria just finds it fair in general, and is grateful to have a friend who can say their honest opinions without worry, as it opens the door for her to do so without having to ostracize herself from the friendship. Also, the comment made in this episode was more of a jab at the doctor than to Quinn. The doctor just said "hey, you need 6000$ of plastic surgery" to her sister, and then depicts the perfect lift for Daria to be looking exactly as that, so she finds the surgeon stupid to even suggest it, as it undermines her whole speech to Quinn.

One of the most absurd things I've ever seen was a Facebook ad about .... 8ish years ago that used Chadwick Boseman as an example for their nosejob surgery. I, of course, called them out on their bullshit, because OMG it's Chadwick Boseman and he's gorgeous but also, that's obviously some racist bullshit. And their only response was something like "sure he's good looking but he could be MORE good looking." Purely cosmetic plastic surgery is really problematic IMO. Medical, ok. Reconstructive, ok. But purely cosmetic? Its scammy AF. It's abusive AF. It's generally always racist and sexist.
Also my aunt and cousin got boob jobs, and my aunts leaked and both of them got them removed for discomfort. Just ... way more risks than rewards unless there's REALLY cause behind it.

Exactly, it’s usually used to erase ethnic features, even for white people. It’s something I can never endorse it, it’s dangerous, detrimental to one’s mental health and is something that is unnecessary. We need to be working to lower the importance of appearance.

this is my first video of yours so I feel like I need to voice everything I noted to myself haha
first, you speak really consicely. I really appreciate the way you circle back to some points. your analysis seems thorough (at least to me; I haven't seen a sigle episode of daria) and detailed without trying to see what's not there. I also like your editing: both the aesthetics (colors, videoscreen, the bar; plus bi union points from me personally) and the funny bits. the fact that you list, cite, and link resources is very appreciated! you're also crazy pretty i think 🥺👉👈
now what I think could be done better (skip it if you're not interested). in general, it looks better when the person on the screen is farther away, at least a little bit. most youtubers stay further so the top of the head isn't cut by the frame. also I wish your voice could be louder (in general and in comparision to background music)
anyway, i'll surely keep watching your videos. you're definitely a gem. and according to views, likes, and comments many people agree

I’ll work on my volume levels compared to the music (I’ve been fiddling with that for some time. I can tell my videos are quieter compared to creators I watch. I’m tryna fix it lol.)
Also, at the moment I just had a recent move so my recording set up is not what it used to be. This was my first video back since I got settled. This one was recorded in a garage against some cardboard and a plastic table cover 🙃 (really miss my old setup and working toward being in better content creating conditions)

What I find most interesting about Dr. Shar is the fact that she went out of her way to make Quinn look like a weird mini clone of herself during the consultation. I mean, the cheekbones and the blonde curly hair say it all.
I think it highlights how Dr. Shar is likely insecure herself and is trying to validate her appearance by forcing others to look more like her.
I find this especially interesting after reading what was in that article: It talked about how the "ideal appearance" for a colored woman was to have lighter skin and a curvy figure. An "ideal" that fits Dr. Shar very well. It really drives home how much she's internalized these ridiculous beauty standards to the point where she's made it her whole profession.

well yeah! but that's kind of newer...in the early 2000's having a big butt was a synonym of ugliness, just read magazines or watch movies from the time and you'll see there will always be some joke about a woman complaining about her fat ass (white chicks as an example) big butts being hot is kind of a new thing. it all just shows the cyclical nature of beauty standards and how ultimately useless adhering to them is. you'll always lose!

@@lodeddiperfan635 Thats so weird, because I remember that some people actually *did* like big butts before they got popular. A friend of mine (we were about 10-11 years old) told me that a boy called her "big butt". And while that was meant to be an insult (she was overweight), I remember knowing and telling her "Thats actually a compliment! Boys love big butts!"

    • @feitme
      @feitme 4 месяца назад +5

Not to out my old, but big butts have always been desirable. I think a huge misinterpretation on "does this make my butt look fat," is that big butts needed to look proportional to the body, just like large boobs; anything too big is clownish, as is being seen with the bbl and filler fiascos of the last ten years-- with Kim Kardashian being a favorite example of how big can go terribly wrong.
Sir Mix-a-lot said it best, "36-24-36? Only if she's 5'3".
      Its always been about proportions.
And I genuinely can not think of one person who ever said that the "heroin chic" catwalk look was ever desirable. Literally every man Ive known has said that a woman looks good with meat on her bones, even if shes not naturally endowed in boobs or butt she still needs to be pleasant to hold on to-- a bag of bones aint it. The only women I knew who wanted the heroin chic look were teenagers and young twenty-somethings still growing out of their adolescent mindset.

@@maschaorsomething Same, I remember even in the 90s plenty of people liked big butts. The song Baby Got Back was everywhere in my childhood. It might be because I was growing up in a big city (San Francisco)? But it for sure is way more popular now than before, like 99% of guys I meet seems to think "the bigger the better" when it comes to butts and thighs, as long as the waist and arms is skinny, obviously.
