    My parents bought this car’s twin new in 1985. They drove it until 94 and parked it until I turned 16. I drove it for almost 2 years before I got a truck and sold my celebrity for $400 to a guy that drove it for at least another year, so I know it made it until 1999, with over 230,000 miles.
    It leaked everything and sounded like yours but it was pretty reliable considering how it was treated and driven

    Wonder if you still have this, i bought one from a mechanic but it made 120 miles before (he says) the distributer burned out, 4 distributers later he can't figure out why it keeps burning out. Have you had any experience with this?

      Squirrel Fish yes I do still own it that's my babe lol and I'll be making more videos of the car but seriously I haven't or not sure why it's burning them out I've never had that problem but could or sounds like you have I wanna say a bad ground to the distributor somewhere something like that but I've never had any problems like the distributor burning out like that only problem I've had is the O-ring go bad and I replaced it which just made a big mess oil leak that's all but what exactly do u mean by burn out like the hole thing burnt like melt from fire or heat or like doesn't put out spark anymore and the car cut off

    • @squirrelfish8200
      @squirrelfish8200 7 лет назад +1

      Christian Leatherman It was a term the mechanic used but he didn't elaborate.
      He replaced the spark plugs 3 (or four) times and now it needs new spark plug wires for the second time. But she lives again the last two times it died out around 120 miles, this time it was test driven a little less than that and idled for half a gas tank. haha.
      But it seems to live (knock on wood!)
      My mechanic asked an older mechanic about the problem and was told that there were two alternators for that car and was told the color was wrong (blue instead of black or vice versa) Am afraid to check it as I don't want to jinx her before the 120 mark.
      It did die with a click as I turned left 5 blocks after taking her away but she started again immediately and hasn't faught me since.
      I'm not sure what the mechanic did but now the steering wheel is loose and can rock in a turn almost three inches before she turns and it grinds on a tight corner. Time to tinker. But it lives!

    My parent's had a 1985 Celebrity Wagon in 1986 bought at Ferman Chevrolet as a demonstrator (2100 miles) ..It was white with blue cloth..Was not the upgraded model like you have here though..but I don't recall it sounding at all like yours does!! 2.8 Engine..guess it was carb..don't remember.. It sure smoothed out....Just heard you say the CATS were gutted and cherry pack...guess that explains the sound!! haha...Enjoy your vintage Chevy! Wish I had our old one but I think it caught on fire (clogged cat) down in Miami on I-95...

    5:31 Yes, I have three of these "old reliable" C.C. sedans (an '85, an '86, and an '89) and I love 'em! Good basic transportation to get you from Point A to Point B and back again... oh, they sometimes cough and sputter a lot, and are often in the garage to be worked on, but at least I always seem to make it back home again. Well, you know what they say --- "A GM car will KEEP RUNNING POORLY long after other brands of cars have STOPPED RUNNING ALTOGETHER". :D

      Heck yeah man!! . I love these cars and I miss mine really bad wish still had the car but my grauge cought fire and it burned the car ti nothing. I tryed to save the car but couldn't in time . Ever since that happened I been trying to find another chevy celebrity with 2.8v6 carbureted or fuel injection or the 3.1v6 I definitely don't want the 2.54cyl at all cause 90hp isn't good enough. I almost owned a 88 celebrity 2.8 ho whitch is the high output 2.8v6 was the eurosport version very very rare to have , only for $425 the day I went to meet to buy it they changed their minds on me and made excuses about why they didn't wanna sell it butt . The car definitely needed work like fuel pump and a good bath and tune up and all the goods . The paint was gone but the interior was mint and had bucket seats 4speed automatic overdrive. Was loaded car and very nice . Let's say I was very upset wasting time to get the cash and meet up with them and they change their minds on me .

      @@KnuckleHeadGarage27 Yes, and I also had one of these OCCs (an '89; my first car, actually; it's a "sister car" to the CC, along with the Buick Century and Pontiac 6000; all four models share the same Hanes repair manual) before these three CCs; I liked it okay, but it didn't have the delightful "angled and sculpted spokes" steering wheel like the CC and many other older Chevy sedans/station-wagons (plus the snub-nosed "Chevy Van" and LUV pickup) did.

When the dang kid is like 8 years old if that and I'm like seriously you gotta be kidding me man the kid isn't probably even gonna want the car by the time he can drive and the car probably won't be any good by that time anyway if it still sits and he might even change his mind by that time to cuz the kids is only 8 years old he doesn't know what he wants soo that's bs . • @Quacks0
      @Quacks0 6 лет назад +2

      Ahhhh okayyyy... well, I didn't know da difference 'cuz I'm not knowledgeable about cars; I'd just heard a couple of random dudes refer to a Chevy Celebrity's engine as that, so I'd naturally *assumed* (never a good idea 'cuz it makes a "you-know-what outta u and me" :P) that it applied to all da engines used in the C.C. series. Thanks for enlightening me about that. Well, anyhoot, I really love the C.C.'s angle-sculpted-spokes steering wheel that accommodates my fibromyalgia (it lets me just rest my hand on the wheel-spoke instead of having to arduously hold my arms up to grip the wheel-rim itself, and so I avoid the "fingers feeling like claws" pain and numbness that I'd suffered previously with a less-compatible wheel on my first car [an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, one of the three GM "sister cars" to the Celebrity; the other two were the Buick Century and the Pontiac 6000], and so I can now drive for many hours in much better comfort. Whoever the genius was who invented that wonderful handsome ergonomically-friendly steering wheel design back in the mid-70's, I'd like to shake his hand!), so I was really glad to have discovered this model of car; it shares this steering wheel design with a lot of other Chevy vehicles in the '70s and '80s. Plus I was actually fortunate enough to find *three of these* now-super-rare lovely "plain Jane" sedans --- a blue one with an EFI 2.5L 4-banger "Iron Duke" (1989), a gray one with a carbureted 2.8L V6 (1986), and a similarly-powered white one (1985). I love 'em all, and I try to keep them all on the road at one time; that way, if one breaks down, I can always have the other two to fall back on till it's repaired, plus of course the gray and white cars have more powerful engines that can pull a heavier load on my little utility-trailer than my less-fuel-thirsty blue 4-cylinder car can. Peace, out. Thanks again, and good health to you and yours! :D

    I had one. Same year, same model. Bought it in 89, then only 4 years old with 35k miles. Piece of garbage. Overheated and stranded me on the highway (no cell phones back then) in the first week I owned it. Fought with it for about a year and a half then gave up on it and dumped it while I still owed money on it. Bought a Honda Civic, got out of debt, drove that for a decade and sold it for good money. Actually did go back to Chevy after that believe it or not, 98 Lumina, which was a very reliable car. But 80s GM products were PsOS.

      @crazysteve9390 4 года назад +1

      CD'S Automotive Garage I’m not a mechanic, you’d know better than I, but I think the 98 Lumina was quite different than the mid80s Celebrity. The Lumina had a 3.1 V6 versus the Celebrity’s 2.8. And as you mentioned, the Celebrity was carbureted, while the Lumina was EFI. And the Lumina was super reliable. Really never left me hanging. I had three transmissions in the Celebrity in two years. I put 140k trouble free miles on the Lumina and then gave the car to a friend who put another 40k on it and then sold it.

    • @KnuckleHeadGarage27

      I meant as like the engines and body underneath are the same . 82-90 all celebritys was the same and last year's of the celebrity had the 3.1v6 in them and then they changed to making a chevy Lumina and they had same engines 2.8 but yes fuel injection but u could take it apart and swap to carb or fuel injection they are same blocks and same goes for 3.1 and 3.3 and 3.4 .
      Basically they went to making the chevy Lumina in 91 and later on changed things along the years butt basically the same platform as a celebrity and alot other 80s 90s cars
