The guitar tech put the empty shells of amps and set up the stock guitar that he would smash like every other guy does. Musicians don't smash their number 1. SRV was the hardest ive ever seen someone on their actual gear when he covered Third Stone by Jimi.

That was early on in Jimi’s career and only done a few times for specific reasons to what was a cheap fender guitar at the time. Once in London and three times in US 1967-68. He would break one guitar, have it repaired, then smash it during the finale playing the smash-able one for just the one song. I think it was bought at a pawnshop or 2nd hand store. He was 25-26 years old and was far from a millionaire did not own a home etc. Apples and oranges here 2023 elderly rock stars with $20k of amps & equipment.
