      Glad it was helpful!
      From a print quality POV, the P700 and P900 are identical, so many of the P900 videos may be of interest too?
      In particular thanks for letting me know why the video was helpful - it was someone at Canon who persuaded me to start making the videos a while ago. I've never been a fan of video but can appreciate how my rather dense (and long) written articles are not to everyone's taste!

    Just set up my P700. The very first photo to print I get a message saying inks are low!! - and they are! as you point out. Now the swindle is you've gotta lay out around a further £200 for a further set.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад +1

      Not a welcome message - however, you can wait until they are fully empty before changing and some will go down much faster than others. See how the levels go down as you use it. Some will hardly go down - IIRC it was a grey which first went. Some others had hardly moved after lots more prints. I'd not buy a full set of spares unless I was getting them at a hefty discount.

    Taking into account the former R3000 (which I previously have owned)/P600 has similar amount of ink in the initial cartridges you could print alot more even after initialising the first set of cartridges. I believe the ink level dropped about 40-50%, not nice, but it is still much more than the 10% left in the P700 Also with CISS system with dampers over the print head: why the heck there is so much ink needed to flush the conditioning liquid from the tubing and prime the print head, considering the built of the P700 is very similar in built like the older R3000/P600 (stationary cartridges about the same amount of ink volume, CISS tubing feeding ink towards the dampers in the print head). I have the feeling this is some type of programmed obsolence in order to force you to buy a new set cartridges almost immediately after initialisation.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 дня назад

      The P700 is not related to the P600 - it is a smaller P900 - see my other answer...

  • @pharmacist5884
    @pharmacist5884 2 дня назад

    Why does the P700 needs so much ink to initialise compared to the older R3000/P600: the built is very similar but there is only 10% ink left, whereas the R3000/P600 you still have about 40-50% left ?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 дня назад

      Different ink system - All that ink goes to flush out the shipping/transport fluid. The P700 is a small P900, so a quite different system to the P600.
      The issue comes from the 25ml carts which are very low after loading everything. Most of what goes into the maintenance cart is not ink.

    Hi Keith. Thanks again for an excellent video. I have just set up my new P700 and successfully printed a nozzle check which looks perfect. Do you recommend doing a print head alignment as part of set up or should I assume correct alignment if nozzle check is good? I've checked the manual and it looks like a maintenance thing not set up, but would appreciate your view.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 года назад +2

      Thanks - I do prefer to run the alignment after set-up. It helps for bi-directional printing
      Note that it may be easier to do with a sheet of photo paper (any sort will do).

    Hello Keith
    - firstly thx a lot for your excellent tipps !
    - now i had a little question :
    - regarding usb printer cable for SC P700 to iMac late 2013 usb 3.0
    - should be : 3m / 118.11in long
    - which one would you recommend ?

    • @KeithCooper

      There are no specific requirements that I know of, other than the right plugs on it...

    I bought a open box p700 new, without the initialization ink. I bought a brand new set of genuine ink from bh photo but when i install ink my printer is saying my ink level is too low! Do I have to find someone with the initial cartridge to charge ink?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад

      The initialisation carts leave the printer very low in ink - I was told that they have a bit more in than normal carts so as not to run out during the process.
      I'm afraid I've only tried the one initialisation for the testing.
      Every chance your bargain printer was not the bargain it seemed - I would ask Epson here

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 года назад

      Depends entirely on the ink receptor coating. Check with the supplier. On some media, the ink doesn't dry properly.

    Hi Keith, ist it possible also to print 4x6 postcards or is it better to print with a canon cp 1300 for example?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад

      Possible, but it would be a tedious experience printing many 6x4 prints on a bigger printer. There is no stacking of card for example...

    how do you switch to USB connection after installion was done with wifi. Do you have to set it up all over again?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 года назад

      On my mac it is another printer instance. So, I plug in the USB and add a new printer. I then have two printer instances available, just that one uses wifi and the other the USB. You can have both connected as it were, it just appears as a 'different' printer.
      You can use the install navi software again - it will do it for you. It won't re-load existing software

    Has the firmware update been released to your knowledge? And if so, does it use less ink to prime on first use, or does the "issue" remain? :-)

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 года назад +1

      This particular video is from when I first looked at the P700 - I have one here again to do some more testing and it's had several firmware updates in the mean time.
      So, I ended up doing an install on a new and current P700 - It did come with the spare maintenance cart and used slightly less ink on initial setup. However, the carts will need replacing relatively soon (LGy went first then Gy, then Light Cyan and Light Magenta)

    • @jameswalker7874
      @jameswalker7874 2 года назад

      @@KeithCooper From reading your written review, I'd imagine the prints you made initially were large ones, so if I allowed for a full set over the course of 3-6 months, hopefully I'd be somewhere about right.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 года назад

      Yes - ink usage can be tricky to estimate. All carts will go down slightly with maintenance, but you should be able to see pretty quickly which plummet the fastest.

      @@KeithCooper I thought that the Epson didn't do automated cleaning cycles like the Canon printers do? Or is it more a case of it does some form of usage on all colours as it prints rather than doing ink intensive cleaning?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 года назад

      All inkjet printers do some form of cleaning & maintenance - it is an integral part of how they work.
      Remember that Canon and Epson have very different print head technologies so they adopt different approaches.
