To everyone saying this does not work: it does. But, there were two types of the precision pro made. One that had the USB functionality, and one that didn't. The one with USB functionality will have a product ID starting with 85791. Hope this helps.
i've got a 85971 and it does get recognized by windows 10 using the 98427 gameport (da-15) to usb adapter. however not all games recognize the sidewinder in windows 10, damn it microsoft allegiance you had one job!
A friend's $28 non working adapter was only missing the connect Pin 4 to 7 detail. Well done and thanks for helping out the future. Always leave enough cable length on the cut off connector so that it can be spliced a couple of times for the next thing that comes up. It's a law of industrial automation thing, the probability to need stuff is inversely proportional to its pucked up time. The first few hours are the worst.
I bought a Sidewinder Freestyle Pro at Goodwill awhile back and never got around to testing it out. I just used this guide and am pleased to report that it works perfectly. Thanks!

It was released during the transition to USB. The original included a passive USB adapter. I see them at my local Goodwill thrift store all the time. Half the time, the original USB adapter is still connected to it.
hey, for EU with no goodwill, what would u recommend? adaptors are expensive, its same as buying a thrustmaster...I was thinking to hook it to a keyboard or optical mouse and then connect to xbox. or use an old controller since basically all I'd do would be remapping??
Works with part no. X03-57540, bought two of them for pennies and did this long ago. Also you might want to put thin spacer under main spring to eliminate wiggle/deadzone of main two axes. Unfortunately mine has bit third/rudder axis wiggle.
I found one of those on the street the other day, in a box for free. Converted it to USB today according to your instructions, soldered everything nice and clean and it works like a charm. I always wanted one of those sticks but never enough to pay money for em. Thanks a lot for this video, it's still helping this guy out almost 7 years later :)

My sidewinder came with a USB adapter. Got it from my father in 1997 or 1998 I think and I still use it to this day, no need to install anything just plug and play. It's a great stick, the only downside is that it became a bit wobly.

This video would have been perfect if you go the Sidewinder 3D Pro Plus, exactly the same button layout, with yaw, but not compatible with USB adapters.

I got a free gameport one today. I got it knowing I have various sound cards with gameports on them. I think you are saying you changed the wiring from the joystick to the serial/usb adapter. I sort of doubt you could literally hook a usb cable into the joystick. That would mean either the joystick was designed around the usb era and had support for it, or the motherboard had some level of serial device support on usb lines. Very dangerous. Anyway I got it working fine in Linux, but am having trouble getting the drivers for the gameport for an audigy 2 with the kx project drivers already installed in Windows 7.
there is a game port to USB converter for this joystick made by logilink , looks like the force feedback joystick ? if it is then if you get the force feed back working its amazing it shakes the whole house through your desk. irritates everyone in the house when you get shot the problem back in the day was the European union banded Microsoft from its game accessories monopoly. so the drivers for this joystick only exist in windows 98. unless anyone knows different let me know please :)

The sidewinder in this video doesn't have force feedback it's just the basic flight stick but I do I have one here that is force feedback that I been meaning to get working. When I do it I will make another video if it's different wiring from this one.
FoamFlyinFool , I got one of those "Super Joy Box7" USB game port adapters for my Thrustmaster X Force and Sidewinder FF Pro. On the X Force, it recognizes all the buttons but the software also added non-existent pedal and throttle inputs. Although the Sidewinder was recognized, the buttons didn't work. So slice and join is my next option.

Menjac you have to get a USB wire with more cables, the one youre using is a standard USB for charging or file transfer I would go to an electronic store
The Sidewinder Precision Pro had USB built into the stick, where the converter was nothing but passthrough and shorting two wires to tell the stick to enter USB mode. I don't think the FFB had a USB mode.

Yes, there's more to it with the force feedback joystick for some reason. I recently got a forced feedback sidewinder about a month ago but haven't gotten it to work yet and haven't had much time to figure it out lately but when I do I will make a new video for the forced feedback.

I wish I could give you more info but with the forced feedback I am as lost as you are. It should work but for some reason it does not. I am sure I can figure it out with some probing around but until then I am lost as to why it doesn't work.
I don't know, but the MS Sidewinder Precision Pro was a USB capable Joystick right from the beginning. It shipped with a Gameport to USB Adapter. That's also the reason why it works, this Joysticks understands the USB Protocol. I am not sure about your MS Sidewinder 3d pro plus.
