Imagine being a 16 year old kid an waiting for this album to come out, then driving an hour and a half to buy it. Then pouring over the lyrics and reading them to my friend on the long journey home. Finally reaching home, rolling a fat one and throwing this on the turn table for the first time. It was grand. Thanks to my best friend and partner in crime back then. Ron. (Still a friend for life).
Great story and I feel ya. Did the same thing (minus the weed) with Ride The Lightening and For Those About To Rock. I remember flying in the U.S. Navy and jamming Sign Of The Southern Cross on repeat over our internal communications system (ICS). But the way, my first name is Ron haha :-)

Sabbath ' s slow metal has no equal. Powerful, Atmospheric very well structured, lots of dynamics , Super powerful voice of Dio and musicians in their prime !

Unmistakable Dio era Sabbath. Mob Rules was a monster and arguably Iommi's best ever guitar work. RJD was and always will be a GOD.

This song contains some of Sabbath's nastiest riffs. My favorite.

Ronnie James Dio vocals are the most powerful I have ever heard. This album was his peak, also Heaven and Hell. Both albums from start to finish are masterpieces.

People always focus on Ozzy years but I think Dio has the perfect metal voice and delivery here.

Ozzy will always be Black Sabbath, this is the band Heaven and Hell in my opinion. You ever heard Dio singing the Ozzy stuff? Its horrible. Ozzy's Sabbath created metal period! Dont get me wrong, I love Dio and the 4 Heaven and Hell studio albums. THE DEVIL YOU KNOW is an underrated masterpiece imo.

To me, Dio Sabbath is just better. Tony's best work was done while writing with Dio. His solos are amazing and his riffs are edgier. Those 2 wrote some of the best Sabbath songs of all time, even if not quite as commercially successful.
Some have complained that Dio doesn't sing Ozzy's songs very well. While this may be a popular opinion, I would point out that Dio can at least sing Ozzy's songs. The reverse is not true. Ozzy would have never been capable of singing any of the Dio Sabbath. Dio's voice is far superior to Ozzy's in almost every measurable way.
Of course Ozzy will always enjoy broader, more commercial appeal. I've been an Ozzy fan since Blizzard. But the more I hear Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio, and Yes, "Heaven and Hell") sing, the more impressed I am by his sheer talent.
Doug Davidson ... I try not to compare them... they are too different and excellent in their own way,, both are legendary
@@scottthompson4193 if you had heard Ozzy trying to sing any of Dio's songs it would have sounded like pure crap, both of them's singing styles are way too different from each other. In my opinion Dio is the better singer of the two (and no im not hating on Ozzy)

Oh yeah, good old Sabbath! This band is my alltime favorite band. And as you Rich, I grew up on classic rock. Had my parents vinyl records to play. Boston, Elo, Ac/Dc, Sabbath and Alice Cooper. But Black Sabbath always stayed in my heart. And all the eras of Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, Ian Gillan, Hughes and Tony Martin. Love it all. Take care, you two!

I think both Ozzy and Ronnie are treasures .I bought and listened to Sabbath with both of them and loved every minute of it and loved their solo careers as well. It's just great rock!

Ahhh one of my favorites! I saw the Mob Rules tour live at the Hollywood Sportatorium and was completely blown away by the performance! Ronnie James Dio is my absolute favorite metal singer! Oh and by the way, an upstart band by the name of Motley Crue opened up the show! Great memory!

Ronnie was a chameleon with his voice. He had many different vocal colors.

Mob Rules is my favorite Sabbath album by far (all due respect to every other release). Vinny and DIO make a huge difference to the band's sound.
This song has a lot of soul, tinged with a bit of mysticism. It is one of the most intense Sabbath songs of either era.
Played this cassette, yes cassette, so many times I wore it out.
It's always about Dio,Ozzy and sometimes Gillan... very few ever mention Tony Martin who had a fantastic voice and suited their music perfectly!
Take a listen to "The Shining" or "The Headless Cross" and listen for yourselves!
Tony is defnitely underrated and dismissed. I think that Tyr is one of the better albums in the 80's. Anno Mundi, Ancient Warrior, Valhalla, Sabbath stones and Nightwing are just a few good songs from Tony era.
Sadly, it happens all the time- awesome musicians getting ignored and forgotten like this.
Paul Di Anno ( vocals) on Iron Maidens first two LP's, Dennis Straton ( guitar) on Iron Maiden's first LP, Tommy Bolin who replaced Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple's "Come Taste The Band", Jake Lee ( Ozzy Ozbourne), John Arch (vocals) on the first albums of Fates Warning, John Rutsey (drums) on the first albums of Rush.... just to name a very few.
Tony Martin sings a fucking clinic on Devil and Daughter. His performance on that one is unreal.
Saw them on this tour and it was epic.

Ok. I only discovered your channel 3 days ago. I had listened to a number of other channels but subscribed to any of them, until your's. I was hooked with your reaction to FFDP Wrong Side of Heaven. So I've been watching as many of your past reactions I have time for. As I said before, you two are real and I love it. So many of my favorite songs that you're reviewing including this one. I love Kels reactions to songs she's never heard before and with her back ground in music can see how amazing Metal is. love the shirt Kel, went to that concert here in Portland last year. This song is FAT! One of Dio's best performances. Great guitar parts and wonderful production. Love this album.
Metal is firmly rooted in classical music. Look how natural it was for Metallic and Rush to play live with classical accompaniment. Rush's "Losing It" features an electric violin on the studio version, thus rarely played live.

This song is about navigation on the sea back in the old days... the southern cross was actually a star that they used to help navigate,, but when the fog came,, it was a fearful time
