Ok I’m not trying to hate on your video or anything but you should really go check out buckin billy ray and practice your notch cuts a little more people that don’t know what there doing are the reason logging and tree work in general has such a high fatality and injury rate I’ll admit the pros make mistakes too but still if that tree still had a top in it it would have busted off the stump before you put a wedge in it I honestly liked the style of your video and you didn’t do too bad except for the notch and I know your a grown man and I’m just some 18 year old kid but you really should go check out buckin billy ray I’ve been watching his videos for about 2 years now and he’s a big reason I know what I do about sharpening and trees
Rich Herman I don’t claim to be an expert, I’ve got nowhere near 10,000 hours of tree cutting under my belt as I just do it for heat and fun. Definitely a valid point, and I should’ve made it clear that I wouldn’t be as aggressive with it had it not already been topped because you’re right, it would have most likely come down before wedging. I think I have a picture somewhere though of one I cut (full tree) that stayed straight up with almost nothing holding it, though I was forcing it to fall against it’s lean haha. I’ll have to see if I can find the pics!
Hoosier Homestead those dead ash are unpredictable me and my dad have been cutting them ever since the emerald ash bore started killing all of them off in north east pa and a few years ago a tree company my dad worked for back in the day had 4 fatalities because of the ash trees and my dad has had a few close calls too he had one bust off the stump as soon as he started his back cut and I’m pretty sure my buddies neighbor got killed by a ash tree
