Ethics of Permaculture
The ethics of permaculture is given by moral beliefs and actions in relation to the survival of our planet. In permaculture, we embrace a tripartite ethic: caring for the land, caring for people, and allocating excess time, money, and materials toward those ends.
Caring for the earth: it means taking care of all living and non-living things: soils, species and their varieties, atmosphere, forests, micro-habitats, animals and waters. This implies the realization of harmless and rehabilitative activities, active conservation, the ethical and frugal use of resources and the correct subsistence (working for useful and beneficial systems).
Caring for the land also implies caring for people, so that our basic needs for food, shelter, education, satisfactory employment and human contact of coexistence are taken into account. Taking care of people is important, since even though people are a small part of the total life systems, we have a decisive impact on them. If we can provide our basic needs, we do not need to act with practices
destructive on a large scale against the earth.
The third component of the basic ethic of "caring for the earth" is the contribution of surplus time, money and energy to achieve the objectives focused on caring for people and for the earth. This means that after we have cared for our basic needs and designed our systems to the best of our ability, we can extend our influence and energies in helping others achieve this focus.
Permaculture systems also have a basic ethic of life, which recognizes the intrinsic value of every living thing. A tree is something of value in itself, even if it has no commercial value to us. What is important is that it is alive and well. The tree is doing its part in nature: Recycling biomass, providing oxygen and carbon dioxide for the region, sheltering small animals, building soils, etc.
So we see that the ethics of permaculture deals with all aspects of environmental, community and economic systems. The key is cooperation, not competition.
The following are the ways in which we can implement the ethics of caring for the land in our own lives:
• Think well about the consequences of your actions in the long term. Plan for sustainability.
• Wherever possible, use native species in the area or naturalized species already known to be beneficial. Introducing potentially invasive species can disrupt the natural balance in your home.
• Cultivate the smallest area of land possible. Plan for small-scale systems, (efficient and intensive energy use).
instead of planning on a larger scale, using systems that consume energy, (extensive systems).
• Be diverse, polycultural (as opposed to monoculture). This provides stability and helps us to be ready for environmental and social changes.
• Increase total harvests: Take a good look at the total yield provided by perennial, short-term annual systems, trees, and animals. Also understand that saving energy is performance.
• Uses low energy environmental ecological systems (sun, wind and water) and biological systems (plants and animals). These conserve and generate energy.
• Bring back the cultivation and growth of food to cities and towns where traditionally this has always existed to make sustainable societies.
• Assists people to be self-reliant, and promotes community responsibility.
• Reforest the land and restore soil fertility.
• Use everything at its optimum level and recycle all waste.
• Create solutions instead of problems.
• Work where your work is useful (plant a tree where it can survive, assist people who want to learn)

Hermoso, mi sueño es tener un terreno donde empezar mi proyecto de permacultura, de momento toca cultivar en un pequeño espacio; no produzco tanto, pero aprendo lo necesaria para cuando esté listo.
