      Sister Ray has been requested by several people now, and the more I think about it, the more my mind gets made up - I would love nothing more than to do a video on it at some stage, but I honestly don't think it's a song that one should even attempt to record in individual parts, since it relies so much on live cues, improvisation, and changes in dynamic and tempo.
      The song itself doesn't really require a tutorial because it's fundamentally so simple - so indeed it would be in 'performance-only' format, like my 'A Symphony Of Sound' video - and the live improvisation aspect can't really be taught, although perhaps discussed afterwards.
      I'm hoping to record a live promotional video of it when I get the tribute group together; but first I need to train-up our 'Moe' over the next few months and then get rehearsals going...we'll see!

    I know Lou and possibly Sterling had said John knew none of the “standard licks” or whatever but honestly a lot of his chromatic walk ups that he does remind me a lot of Jamerson style bass lines

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  8 дней назад

      Yeah there was a lot of Motown/Soul music playing at the factory, so I would not be surprised if Jamerson was an influence on some of those bass lines! John Cale even played the exact same model Fender Precision Bass as Jamerson, in the same sunburst finish!

      Not quite the entire album, but I've recorded the majority of it, yes - there will be two more tracks coming over the next two Sundays! By the way, have you listened to Nico's album 'The Marble Index'? The band have been rightly acknowledged for how ground-breaking and hugely influential their work was, but Nico's solo work is seriously underrated. It's no wonder she cried when 'Chelsea Girl' was released after the producers had it tarted-up with strings and flutes...but she made up for it with her second solo album. It fries my brain that it was recorded in 1968!

    • @kjcs_1896
      @kjcs_1896 Год назад +2

      @@CAMFORRESTER I've listened to Chelsea Girls (love These Days, I can relate to the lyrics), Marble Index, and Desertshore so far. I intend to listen to more of her LPs, but everyday I find an interesting LP in RUclips, and temptation leads me to listen to albums all over the world (I've listened to the sounds of Japan, Germany, France, Russia, Peru, and so much more!), but anyways.. Nico is quite underrated, only seen as that German model who sang with The Velvet Underground, but I think her LPs deserve more praise. It's great. Her voice is just beautiful.

    • @CAMFORRESTER
      @CAMFORRESTER  Год назад +2

      @@kjcs_1896 Yeah 'These Days' is my favourite from 'Chelsea Girl' too. I'm actually planning on doing a cover of that in the style of how the VU might have played it if they were still accompanying her - which is what she wanted on that album, but Tom Wilson refused. And that's great, it's important to branch out and listen to different world music...especially as musicians - more strings to our bow, and all that jazz! 😉

      @kjcs_1896 Год назад +1

      @@CAMFORRESTER Fun thing about music is that there are so many in abundance and obscurity just waiting to be found. You can only peel slowly and see (get it? 🤣🤣). Yes, there can be language barriers, but it more than makes it with the music. Music really is a powerful language.
      Also, I can't wait to see how you will interpret this Jackson Browne classic that is These Days.

    • @sodiumlights
      @sodiumlights Год назад

      @@kjcs_1896 i'd disagree with the term 'underrated'. Those who know her music rightly respect her talent, and she is held in high regard. Under-appreciated more like.
