We had the anti roll bar bushings done on our Kia Ceed at 90k miles. Clowns who did the work managed to tear one of the rubber boots on the steering rack while fitting the new bushings. Fixed by upgrading to a Skoda Enyaq 😂.
Wow what thing to do in a tent of all places... Nice job. Wonder where you get the torque settings from? Was having the idea of doing my ball bearings in the motor before it starts to brake down (160k km, ZE40 Q90 from 2017)
There’s literally 2 bolts behind the steering rack holding it in, tho they are big bolts and the bit they go through is mega thick metal. There is also a bolt on the coupling inside the car holding the rack on the column. Cheers
Given the knocking, I would have guessed outer track rod ends or the inner joints - sometimes called drumsticks. You changed the rack so just interested to know if it could possibly have been fixed by changing the inner joints/drumsticks? Also - you had the front subframe out - could the rack have been swapped with this still in place ? thnx
Open question to anyone really, mine feels like a proper bone rattling double decker bus if I'm going over a rough road surface, 40k, new droplinks were fitted at 38k when it had MOT done, wonder if anything else needs looking at.
Yeah normal driving on decent roads is all fine. It's just those rough surfaces like the battered roads on industrial areas etc that really seem to shake it up. Or also very noticeable on "sharp" bumps like cats eyes I think it needs the boot weld fix though, the rattling and clicking do contribute to the rickety feeling I think.
@garycevrepairs yeah 2020 ZE50, got it a few months ago and not sure if it's had anything done. It was rattling like crazy at the back at first - adjusting the strike plate helped some, adding some rubber around the boot trim (per RZOC Craig video) helped some more, but still get an annoying "tap.. tap.. tap" behind my right shoulder and kind of clicky sounding trim over those small bumps like cats eyes etc. Until I get the boot weld looked at (warranty fix) it's a good old fashioned "turn the radio up" Zoe haha Hoped it'd be better than my old one, ended up worse noise wise :). (More whiney motor than the R240 too) Glad it's so much more useful than the 22 though. Covered 800 miles on trips last week.

Hi, torque settings are from the Renault aftermarket information system. All manufacturers must legally provide service and repair information. Cheers
So what holds it in beside the bottom column bolts? Something creeks lock to lock - crap bushes? 🤔🌝

Hi we’ll see! It should be possible with the front subframe in. Cheers

Is it ok on normal driving? Front ball joins are common but you’d usually get a knock fairly regularly. Could be the front shocks.

What age is it? I think the boot rattle (welding issue) was only ze50s
