I had a bunch of friends get into the game this wipe and they all had trouble understanding why I wasn’t keeping up when I’ve been playing for so many years. There’s just a certain point where you’re tired of doing the same quest knowing you’ll have to do it all again. Like you said so well the features are great…. Until it’s the 10th time you’re starting all over in your hideout, or leveling traders or even just building guns every damn day. Tarkovs problem is and always has been there really isn’t an endgame and relies so heavily on its progression that when the progression loses its appeal so does the game.

Great points! I also feel like this but I personally think the biggest 2 issues are the amount of time spent doing tetris in the hideout menus with items crafting etc etc, as well as the blatant cheating sickness thats went on for years.

I had this love-hate relationship with EFT since I startder playing 4 years ago. There was always something that I disliked about it, something that held it back from being perfect. I never could put my finger on it, but then I stumbled upon this awesome video. Here, you articulated everything that annoyed me over the years. Thank you Mr J Dog for your great work!

I officially had my burnout as well this recent wipe. Been playing since 2020 and at this point you would think Tarkov would be at its all time peak. Sadly not and what is even more sad is all the streamers and RUclipsrs are leaving as well. Tarkov had a good run but all games must come to an end at some point.

That the game kinda implodes for other reasons probably doesn't help. I haven't played as much, only managed a lot of progress in a few wipes, but I'm also burnt out. The cheater problems as of a few wipes ago were the final straw for me. Also, I think the game is at its best for the first day of a wipe when everyone is playing different kinds of kitchen sink loadouts and is still kinda close in terms of quests. From there it's downhill. And I agree that tarkov is played with the wrong mindset and would have enjoyed the stalker larping lifestyle. Good luck with everything!

If you saw russia 2028 pre alpha you would see what i expected from this game. or what the TRUE believers really expected. Open map to map transitions like in stalker. Multiple factions and AI that patrols the map to create a never same experience. They never added factions. instead they added more guns and more tedious quest. Were is the karma system? even in their announcement trailer they made it seem like "at some point USEC and bear must ally vs other forces" yea that very rarely happens and it mostly happens with people that are bored of game and dont care for gear are just willing to risk it to talk and chill. They have spent 8 years with stupid "events" instead of just adding in these features that SPT and other Mods have added for years! its obvious stinky niki took our money got his ego inflated and decided to lose all passion for the game and just the do the bare minimum to live it up while doing minimal work.
Also BSG been scummy back in the early days 2016 when bigfry started talking about how garbage the netcode was. he got copy striked. and banned from the game. What legit company does this? Im already on GZW and Arena break out. Because tarkov is never gonna fix any of these core issues you listed. The long load times. its pathetic. the maps are not even impressively large. And lack AI besides in key areas. and only 1-3 at a time. again Long load times for pathetic small amount of MAP and AI where if you die your reward is to sit and watch your team CAMP your corpse. or just watch them spend 20-30 minutes doing whatever so you can get back in to raid.

"say that it's dying" - Literally the best wipe for years everyone was saying 3 months ago.
"slow decay" - Game is constantly having consistent massive patch updates.
Like I get it. You've personally put shit tons of time and effort in and you've burned out. But it's that very burnout and being a community figure which exposes and makes you vulnerable to the toxicity of the community around this game.
Tarkov is still great. The game is amazing in fact. The best it's ever been. It's the community and people surrounding the game that are a cesspit of awful takes and constant outrage and if you interact with them too much you end up getting all the positivity and joy sucked out of you.
Me and my friends have been playing since 2017/2018 now, we all have 4-5k hours and we ALL still enjoy the game. We all still love playing it. Because we don't let the silly controversies ruin our mood.
We run into a handful of cheaters a wipe, 0 most days. We usually discover the "drama" a week after it's already passed and never got affected at all. (like this UHE nonsense. It was too expensive but it didnt actually impact the game at all. If you just played the game your experience wasn't changed in the slightest.)
It's sad that your joy and positivity have been destroyed. But it really is important to look at your own mental biases and realise that Tarkov isn't the problem. Just because you've grown to be sick of the game and jaded doesn't make it bad, it just means that you need to step away from it.
But videos like this contribute to the negativity and toxicity that I'm talking about, the rants and the complaints and the whining, even when justified, just spread misery and pessimism. Which is a real shame considering you always used to be so positive. I hope your future videos bring your more joy and success.

    • @SwissMarksman
      @SwissMarksman 4 месяца назад

lmfao the current viewerbase on Twitch is at 5k viewers at best. And I mean during primetime.
"Videos like this contribute to the negativity and toxicity" 🤡.This is situation is borderline historical and I encourage people to read up on the details it's a fun read. It's only gets crazier the more you learn about the details lol.
I legimately don't think any game of this size has ever tried to straight up scam a playerbase and ruin a game with controversial updates at this scale. It's not even grey area ethier, it's like people are exploring legal options because it's so blatant and their is so much overwhelming proof.

  • @SwissMarksman

Yeah I can feel that man. Doing the same shit over and over each wipe and the core issues (cheaters and technical problems) doesen't get fix. This burned me out a bit. I took a 1 1/2 year break from the game and returened this wipe. Learning streets was a fun experience and also getting my pvp skills back up. But also stoped playing a few weeks ago, as the late wipe is pretty stale.
I have given up on the carrot on a stick when I quit 1 1/2 years ago. Tarkov can be a fun game if you don't over do it. There is just not enough content. And the same issues as 5 years ago (glowing sunglasses during fog and the bad audio says hello).

Tarkov is one of those games to keep at arms length, Me and my mates only play for the first month or two of a wipe, because we LOVE the early game. Once we start getting meta kit and doing the BORING mid-game quests we all lose interest.

I stopped playing in 2020 after it being my main game since the beta opened. I couldn’t take the half-asses fixes anymore. The introduction of found-in-raid status killed the games for me and my group. I used the flea market to make up for my lack of time. Not being about to sell 80% of my items for optimal prices made it clear that Nikita and BSG were completely against letting people play they game any way other than how they wanted us to.
Not to mention that when I bought the game, we were told that the game was going to be a persistent open world survival with physical traders. Tarkov, with its raids, has managed to define an entirely new genre of game from what was supposed to be a damn placeholder…

Questing, this is the issue. I played since 2017, but every wipe since Jan 2019 just as Labs came out. Out of these wipes, I made it to level 40 and 49 I think in 2019, then 31 in 2021, 38 in 2023, and this wipe 44. All others I got to level 15-25 in first weeks and quit. Know why? I have to do the same godforsaken quests every time. I know some people on the reddit and such love to talk about how pvp is so awful and this and that, blablabla. Truth though is that me, and most of the people I've known since I started play for the PvP. I want to be able to PvP and enjoy myself with the guns I like, however over time they've made things impossible to buy on flea and require much higher level. For example, let's say I wanted to play with completely standard rifles, ak74 and m4, and use 5.45 PS and m855, ammos which honestly aren't very good. Now that means I need to be mid level 20s to have BAD ammo. How am I gonna do that without questing? I can level super fast, but honestly i'm just done with it. I finished a quest like Setup by only dying 3 times and killing 15 in 24h, guess what though? I love pvp, this is why it works, same with punisher quests. Do I want to do all the BS fetch and mark and this and that quests? Dude I've done them 10+ times. I'm so over it at this point. Only time I'm EVER returning to Tarkov in the future is private PvP servers. I'm going back to arma/dayz and some other games, where THE COMMUNITY is great and mods the game to perfection, better than any arrogant, out of touch dev team can. Tarkov isn't good the way Nikita sees it, and he can't even deliver on a better main questing system he promised what, 4-5 years ago now? Jesus man.

Always loved your videos J Dog!! I too have played for almost 3000 hours now and since 2021 when I got my first Kappa, I didn't find the enjoyment as much afterwards. Starting to play with metas without the quests and progression, but didn't have traders so I couldn't buy much. The idea of having to do all the quests again really does demotivate you in someway. Now I'm just playing other similar games but the one thing I can't get over is the 'nostalgia' I used to get during the early times. There really is nothing like it though. Stay safe and keep making vids!

I went through something similar with DayZ. Played that game, mod and standalone, for almost 7 years straight and when the game was at its lowest point in players and worst state of game itself. When that pathetic excuse for a 1.0 came and the servers I frequented died off I was done for good. I cant help but feel bitter at the game being at its highest player count now solely due to community mods but I'm too burned out to ever go back to it.
Tarkov was the game I always wanted DayZ to be. And it was a really great game for years despite everything but like you said there came a certain point where I stopped lying to myself that all of these issues were something to be fixed in the future, and realized they were just features. The Streets wipe was the last one for me and in hindsight my choice to quit has been vindicated more every day. Always loved your videos back in the day when I loved this game, look forward to whatever you decide to cover next.

I owned the game since 2017 but I've barely played, skipping most wipes and my biggest achievement has been level 1 bitcoin farm. That was true until this wipe. This wipe i think is "that one big wipe". Maybe not on the technical side but it sure is on the design side between the new armour and recoil systems and the avilability of ammo/armours throughout progression
Honestly i think that forgetting the travesty that has been the unheard edition BSG has been going in the right direction full steam ahead for the last few months
As for your minmaxing argument, well, i think that it's not a problem with the game itself but rather an intrinsic problem of playing the same game for thousands of hours. I've seen it happen with every single game i've played that much. At some point you just start optimizing everything until you optimize the fun out of the game and there's not that much the devs can do about it except making the optimization itself fun (which is what PoE has done for instance)

I think we should all take a break. Give BSG uninterrupted time to just get the game to version 1.0. When its 'done', we all come back and judge what it is, what has happened and well all see if its worth playing. I hope so. And when they do, get rid of the F'n Market and the Secure Container (nurf it). I think the 'meta' people are used to is not what the game was meant to be. But 'we' forced it because 'we' wanted a better COD game. Let Tarkov be Tarkov and it will be better.

    Game wipes:
Massive dopamine rush from doing first tasks, surviving , getting level 2 traders
Start fiending to get flea unlocked, massive dopamine hit when it’s unlocked
*Wait, now I have flea, what’s the point? There goes early wipe! And if I have the flea, everyone else does now or is about to*
*Have to do 10 horrible Shoreline tasks*
Okay, done! Wow I hate tasking right now. Let me just grind through these so I can get max traders.
Get max traders…. *”Wait, I just scammed myself. Now I have everything and I’m running the same boring meta. Isn’t this state of the game where I WANTED to get away from with a wipe 4 months ago?”*
And yeah, you hit the nail on the head with loading times. Up until like 2,000 hours I wasn’t too bothered with them. And after trying arena breakout, it really made me realize how much time I waste sitting in loading screens.
And pushing PvP and getting sent back to the stash isn’t bad because I lost my gear, it’s bad because my opponent just forced me to load for another 5 minutes.

I think people that have been playing since alpha are probably just burnt out. When the game fully releases and the DLC comes out maybe older players will come back. Like you say many Tarkov players had an unhealthy relationship with tarkov and have walked away from it

Ironic happenings as of late; I always loved 90% of tarkov. The gameplay, guns, customization, quests, maps, lore, etc were all perfect. I work a lot however and have a kid so I could never sink any decent amount of time into EFT and would never progress, never win fights etc. 100% a skill issue. I have wanted PVE for ages and now that its finally here I can play with my friends or my wife and I can enjoy the game for the first time ever.
Sad to see how they handled the whole thing, as they made some missteps for sure. Other than the fact it was too expensive and they screwed over EOD I think the game itself is the best its ever been.

I don't think this was an incoherent ramble at all. I think you did a great job of illustrating exactly how you feel and how most of us feel about the game a this point. I only started playing recently after not playing for a couple of years and I have a hard time keeping interest past max traders. Honeslty, they should just open source the game and close shop. SPT / FKIA / and mods have taken the game to the next level and solved the cheater problem entirely.

I feel like ever sense the unheard addition came out, everyone just loves shitting on tarkov. not saying thats the intentions of this video, but half the comments rn are "tarkov sucks, lets play grayzone'. its still a REALLY fun game and is in the best state its been in the whole time i've played it sense 2017. I was pissed when i heard there was a PVE mode exclusive to the unheard addition but its not like it ruined tarkov. Bigger pockets? OH MY GOD SO OVERPOWERD!!!! these abilitys weren't even explained how they work and it seems everyone was ready to start hating a game they've been playing for 3000+ hours.

Nothing personal i love your content and will keep watching but...
Also you being rude about the time between raids, if you are organized, not a loot gobelin or a weapon mod fetishist, transition between raid is done in like 5min and the matchmaking + loading time is around 3-5 min. Personally i am happy to have this moment of rest after a 40 min raid, i can brew a cofee, pet my cat, kiss my gf because i don't have a chat screaming, leaving and forcing me to constantly gives entertainement... They gaves us weapons presets, gear loadouts, mag presets... If you spent too much time between raid it's your fault we have almost every tools needed to make it quick.
Going throught the map is slow ? Yeah this is not a racing game... Do light weights presets so you will be faster if you think your too slow or use more BTR...
Repacking mag takes a long time, maybe pick a COD or BTF where there is no mag mecanics but regarding your content you are a milsim lover (mag repack is not shorter on ACE/Scum/dayz)
Getting same cheater for 5 years ? Found a game with no cheaters problems nowadays...
Did you woke up badly today ? You spoke about problems only related to your kind of peoples making 30 raids a days and playing 20/24 hours, and justify your gloutony because of the wipes ? You rushing content cause you have to stay up to other content creators not because the wipe forces you to do so... Or this is a bad mindset that leads you to burnout so chill out about rushing everything like a crazy person. You are burning out because you are a content creator, not because of the game... This video looks like a rendez-vous with your phsycanalist, the problem is not about changing game but more about changing your works it seems.
Slow down internet workers, normal peoples would love to have fun too and go past lvl 30, we can't play 12 hours a days ! And i hate when i start seing youtubers reach their goal/burnout cause it means BSG loosing free marketing asset and it will lead to a wipe to bring you back.

Thanks for the content you made. I feel the same for a long time now. You nailed a problem I never thought about, this game does not allow you to play the way you want to be efficient, and this explains maybe the life cycle of every wipe with « awesome game » at the start of wipe, to « dead game » 3 months after. Oh now this cycle has a drama now since 3 wipes maybe.
Anyway, BSG never find a proper way to keep the playerbase investing time and enjoying the game over time. Anomaly is more fun. I think the game I may enjoy in the future will be Russia 2028.

I hope there’s a future from Tarkov-esque games with PvP. As much as I love the game the PvP experiences makes and ruins the game. Between all the blatant and closet cheaters, hit reg issues, desync. The good PvP moments are my favorite thing on earth but it’s maybe 1/20 PvP encounters that are that way, the rest are either some guy sitting in a bush the whole raid waiting no for me to pass by or the aforementioned bullshit.
If there’s a way to have the ideal PvP experience without the crap I want that so bad!! I just don’t know how you make that a reality without making it a coop only game and creating the world’s greatest AI.

I put around 800 hours into tarkov in a very short amount of time. Then the burnout came, and I couldn't bring myself to even open the game. I came back after a while and put in a couple hundred more hours bc i wanted to get to 1000. I love tarkov and feel sad abandoning it like this, but i can't bring myself to play it anymore. This current wipe really ended it for me. Now I'd rather play stalker or halo or other single-player games that just let me chill.

Good video. I just started playing halfway though this current wipe so everything is still new to me. But I do understand the annoyance of min/maxing the questlines; I pretty much needed to download a flowchart to show me how to unlock any decent gear so I can actually play the game.

Yeah it’s still fun but now with GrayZone and Arena Breakout, I realize there’s a serious flaw to the extraction genre. And that’s wanting meta to kill more, but the kills you get are usually people with less meta builds. So it forces you to want to use suboptimal kits to maximize your gains but then you see less success. It seems unsolvable.

The attacks on PvP since the lighthouse wipe really ruined it for me. Whatever the game should look like when Nikita sees a clip is more important than how much he can retain the base with how many of us want it to be. Metas cannot be removed, and it is a fact that they need to face up to. It is a meme at this point.

Now no one can make their own experience it all has to be guided by some content guru, and to be fair its not their fault either, they are the product of a complacent industry.
