I am running a power wire from the battery to the console and attaching it to a bus bar. How large does the wire have to be to power everything? 16 gauge, 14 gauge, or...?
I usually run 10 gauge when running my main power and ground from battery to the switch panel or buss bar. That seems to be the industry standard from boat manufacturers. If you have a lot of accessories it can't help to go to 8 gauge, but for LED lights, nav lights, and stereo you'll be fine with 10 gauge.
Hello Love your videos.. Can you help me with something . I have a 1999 fisher freedom 241 DLX and needing the wiring color codes, from the control box back to the engine compartment the wires r mostly color correct but the wires that are on my motor have been cut and color change. I just put motor back in and having trouble remembering and getting the wires where they need go.. its a 2004 3.0 mercruiser, stern drive alph one gen two. would you be able to help me with the right color codes to where they go? I rebuilt to engine 3 years ago and its been setting on stand and I had taken pics of it but cant seem to find them..
I'm really just an outboard guy, but I believe Mercury uses the same color codes for their ignition harness on outboards and inboards...you may want to do some research on that before to confirm. I would also take a look at some Mercruiser forums as I'm sure you can find tons of answers and discussion on there because it's such a popular motor from speed boats, to fishing boats, and pontoons that are I/O. At 1:14 of this video it shows the chart that I refer to for wiring with motors I'm working with: ruclips.net/video/yDOqxwb_RLE/видео.html
I learn something new from you every week Tom, thanks!
I think there are endless boating topics we can cover whether for a pontoon or just boats in general! Thanks for tuning in.
Well, that solves a few of my issues. Thanks Tom
