Drinking wine found on the side of the road

- This is about three things: drinking a bottle of wine I found on the side of the road in a pile of rubbish; accepting a challenge from a RUclips subscriber who said I should sit in the middle of a field and tell stories; and answering questions put to me by friends on Insta. I reminisce about old hats, past films, first crush, show films that are either coming up or not-quite-right, and bang on about all sorts of things that are all pretty interesting.

G'day team. I've answered most (and will get to all of them!) of the now 500 questions from Insta. Some gooduns in there that I didn't have time to answer in the film (or I was too whacked to do them justice...) instagram.com/beauisms
so happy you're going to be uploading more. legend
Thanks for all the content Beau,
I first found your vids 1 week into second lockdown in Melbourne, they were a saving grace !
Looking forward to more.
Cheers
Joe.
the vibe i get from you is that youve figured out this youtube thing completely on your own
Omg 14 films that's 14 years worth of content in one year! Glad to see your doing ok and have taken full advantage of the pandemic! When can we expect the first film?
@@walterpreedy7563 G'day, Walter. Second Sunday of the month, every month. (70% of the time, every time)
You are what RUclips was meant to be.
He is what man is meant to be. This is what thousands of years of philosophers were getting at when they talked of human flourishing!
Evan, you TOO are what RUclips is supposed to be!
Cool to see you here Evan
meh, youtube was supposed to be little random videos, not high quality, produced videos. but those are pretty great too.
Hipster stuff? Nope.. :D
14 films in 14 months caught me big time off guard, mega hype
Yo matt knows about this guy!?
@@majesticseeotter_45 been a Beau fan for a long while my friend, one of the greats
I love that you love beau
@mattcolbo Didn't expect to see you here! One of the greats indeed :)
Mate a Beau Miles impersonation video would be a gem 👌
Who else is super excited for the upcoming videos?!!!!!!!!🎆
I can't wait this guy is my inspiration to make something with my life, after watching this guy I decided to take up some stuff, now I'm a pianist and ive taken up just making stuff and it brings me joy
Claude Debussy dang man you've just inspired me.🤠
Absolutely. He is a brilliant and inspiring story teller.
Nice one Chicken. I am too matey
Beau Miles holy crap Beau Miles just responded to me! Also just to let you know I have watched the marathon video at least ten time. It doesn't get old. I love your work keep it up have a great day.
This guy feels like one of the only people on the planet that is truly happy.
@@joseph7105 Not sad. A sober thought of inspiration.
literally my exact thoughts as i was watching this
Even sadder that most people can be that happy, if they stopped actively self-sabotaging. Step 1: stop being envious and consequently bitter about people who have more than you or are more accomplished than you. That is, from what I can see, one of the biggest causes of unnecessary and self-inflicted misery. Amplified greatly by social media. It accomplishes nothing except making you unhappy.
Don’t know if it’s realistic to strive for happiness. Feeling joy throughout the day doing stuff I love does more for me than chasing happiness.
@@frits8986 I hate to break it to you but you are happy, sorry for your loss
Whoever lives near Beau, do us a favour and sling some bottles of wine in the bushes in the area.
Absolutely, it would be like his own personal treasure hunt
You know, people say that it's all the critters in Australia that you should be worried about. Upon seeing a man pickup a bottle of wine from a pile of junk on the side of the road and then proceeding to drink it, has made me realize that maybe it's the Aussies themselves we should fear!
Me: Beau works for a university during a pandemic and he hasn't posted in a while. I hope he is doing ok.
Beau: drinking wine found on the side of the road.
Nice little summary there, Luke. Not far wrong
Beau, my friend and I took a shot at mile an hour! To keep it short, we didn't train enough and made it to mile 13! The good news was I got so much done in those 13 hours that I would have put off for years otherwise. It was incredible! Keep up the inspirational work!
I understood when you said "Use More" We do need to use the things we have MORE . USE MORE, BUY LESS
aye, I got that as well.
Use more smarts and common sense. Consume less
Adding "strike me pink" to my vocabulary as I'm typing this.
Helen pulled me up on that 'what the heck is strike me pink' she said. I wasn't really sure but it came out so there you go
Google tells me it's a $12 parfum, a "total woman boutique" in Georgia, USA as well as lime granules to acidify soil with. Quora says it's a colloquial Australian expression meaning "I'm embarrassed/surprised".
@@BeauMiles Strike Me Pink was a film in 1936.
Strike Me Pink is a 1936 American musical comedy film directed by Norman Taurog, starring Eddie Cantor and Ethel Merman, and produced by Samuel Goldwyn.

It's been so long Beau. This is what I needed in 2020.
I really like your handle. Got a thing for old buses (who doesn't really!?) Ta mate
Sure, when Beau picks up a bottle of wine on the side of road and drinks it, it's art... when I do it all I get is an intervention!
😆🤣

I came for the wine, stayed for the depth in your answers ✨
Thanks Heidi. Gee a lot got cut (2 hours of drinking and talking), so nice to see you think a little depth still survived the big cut
@@BeauMiles Not going to lie I would hands down watch the entire cut of you just getting drunk and rambling about life. Probably would watch it every morning for inspiration to be honest.

Thank you for this beauty.
YES. I wish you posted more. It truly inspires me when i have trouble inspiring myself
13 more to come in next 13 months, and likely more, and then lots after that. THey're comin' mate
Beau you remind me of my dad so much, he also had a PHD and spent all his time tinkering and building and reading. It's really nice to see that again, and it's inspired me to not only get off my ass and start things but to see them through, a hard thing for many and what seems to be a strength of yours just as it was my fathers. Looking forward to your next videos, and lots of love from New Zealand
Always a good day when Beau posts, thanks man
Agreeeeeeeeeed
Niceee, Covings!
As I've said before, the pure articulation of life and passion of doing that Mr Miles has is extraordinary and inspiring.
Taking the simple and making it seem like it's own adventure is a reflection of life and possibly why this is, hands down, my favorite RUclips channel.
That sun-smart one at Bondi looks hilarious. Fingers crossed for a rough-cut upload.
Yeah, it'll make the light of day. Needs another session to iron out my stuff ups.
@@BeauMiles nice pun
The labelled pieces of the shed is massively impressive. You're a legend beau
Beau you gotta release that sun smart video! That footage of you running around poking people, telling them to put on sun screen is absolutely hilarious
“Wealth and worth is time, and being happy how you split your time” - Beau
It's official: This is my new fave channel. And as a fellow Aussie, I'm proud.
You probably won't see my comment, but your description of your headspace when you run is the way my brain works/ed when I walk. From my teens (I'm 57) walking long distances was my escape. I don't consider the distance, nor anything else. I just walk. And I'm free. Not too long ago I was averaging 15 kilometres a day. I know that's not huge, but it worked for me. I had to balance walking with working and home. If given the choice, I'd just keep walking.
"You actually look pissed" God love you Aussies. In the States that expression means you look angry. Took me a minute to realize that was not what she meant.
I didn't realize what she meant until he said it again at the end. I was like what is he pissed about??? lol
I'm glad I'm not the only guy going thru roadside junk piles !
Love the EDC Swiss Army knife !
Yeah! Loved seeing the progression of sobriety to pissedness. You're a legend, Beau. Heartily looking forward to the films. Can't wait! Lots of love to you and yours!
Hey Beau, don’t change man just don’t change. Watching this again after a few years and you still inspire me. Hi vis suburban banality is engulfing us at an alarming rate and you’re the antidote my friend. Keep on keeping on people.
After Watching some of your films ive started to run a bit for some exercise and I have been enjoying my time. Thank you Beau

Not wonder you're pissed, you finished the bottle in 14 MINUTES!

Beau, you're a huge inspiration of mine. You remind me of my Grandfather, he was an adventurous lad who died doing what he loved, I strive to be like him and never forget who I am, your films make me want to fulfill this dream
There you go, a positive future on toast- go for it fella.

Earlier this year, I watched Kayak around Africa. Less than a month later, I’m the proud owner of a 17’ Sea Lion Kayak 🤷♂️

When you immediately hit the like button just because it's a Beau film. 🥰😎
The runs and kayaks are great but I'm really drawn to the ones that come to you seemingly on a whim (like my new favorite with the big gum). Maybe because they're so novel. Poetry that feels forced is one of the biggest things to turn me off to a beautiful story. But the stuff in your pieces is just very earthly and naturally reflective, never over-stated. Hope maybe we get an interesting quirky one that you just have to include in this upcoming year's plan. Looking forward to all the great 14 vids you're gonna make.
Yeah the not-so-super-big-adventures that turn out to be pretty interesting are my favourites too :)
This is what the world needs.. to watch your video's and listen to you speak real life !! Thank you!! I get it...
I always talked to myself as a kid. My parents made me feel like there was something wrong with me and my mom told me it was scaring her so I had to learn to internalize my conversations. I only feel comfortable doing it while alone or in my car. It's really comforting to see someone as confident and successful as you to know that I'm not crazy.
Actually it is supposed to be good for your mental health to talk to yourself. Plus being perfectly normal. I had a conversation about it with my friends. They all talk to themselves.
I use it to organise myself. "Well what I am going to do is x & then I am going to do y. Oh, no actually I will do z." When I have completed tasks I tell myself 'well done'. 'That's got that job finshed'. I don't get a lot of acknowledgement from others so I give it to myself..
I cant wait for the videos to start hitting my screen. They are always so good. I love the way you think!
You’re the best, Beau.
good vibes TL. Ta mate
20+ years hiking and the only one in a white cotton business shirt. Many marvelled - until I told them why. If the suns too intense I can turn the collar up and roll the sleeves down. It also washes readily in a stream and being cotton, doesn't keep me warmer than I want to be.
The first thing overly aged wine will lose is its aroma. 2nd - its flavour. 3rd - its body aka mouthfeels - and finally its colour.
Gold star for your creativity.
Some random person: "This is useless."
Beau: "Is this a story!?"
314,000 views (so far) and only 53 dislikes really says something.
Takes a real personality and skill to pull off a video like this so successfully! Love it mate.
It's real early in the video to be commenting, but at 0:17 I'm pretty sure my parents got rid of those exact same folding chairs by the side of the road a couple months ago. Have you been to Canada without telling anyone, Beau? 😂
That was me. I illegally worked on a ship that got me to Alaska and I worked my way south and across Canada, stumbling on your parents chairs one afternoon and thinking I was one lucky fella. Alas, someone else I'm afraid. My imagination got the better of me.
@@BeauMiles love this! Wish each comment was a story like this lol

Content like THIS is why I love RUclips!
I’m assuming, from context, that “pissed” in Australia also means drunk. Here in the United States pissed is often used in reference to being really angry haha.
pissed is used for drunk and angry in the UK, assume it is the same in aus
Thanks for that because i was really confused 😂
Yer we use it for both meanings in aus

Hey Beau, where are our 14 films? :P
Great fun Beau. Somebody else may already have offered this. As you suggested, pigs do not sweat much. In fact they don't sweat at all. That's why they love wallowing. If you want a sweaty animal, look at a man or, more impressively, a horse.
The films that come out of this channel are absolutely beautiful (Beau-tiful). They completely display the joy of making stuff and adventuring. The fact that this comment section is so positive and genuine shows that the kind of people that these films attract are the best kind of people. Thanks everyone

Can’t wait, Beau! Was thinking about your channel the other day and how much I like your videos. Awesome surprise!

I don't think you could possibly be any more genuine and wholesome.
Keep being you Beau.
Your fresh outlook on life rubs off on me. You are a beast! Keep it up
I can barely grapple w this dichotomy, the looks of the guy in a field which seems like the middle of nowhere, contrasted with an iMac and a masterful production -a well edited video, cool narrative. It’s just great
I sub to loads of RUclips channels, I enjoy all there content. However, your one of only two that I have the notifications turn on for. I recommend your videos to everyone, there is something in them that creates thought and motivation.

youtube's algorithms finally bought me a gold in finding your channel. Love your positive outlook on life & sustainable living. Keep up the good work mate.
Thank you for making me laugh during such a crappy time in our world 🌎
Hey Beau,
Hope you, your wife and your sweet daughter are all right there down under.
When I first found your channel and the videos I so quickly felt connected with you because of the joy you seem to feel about running.
In another one of your videos you talked a little more about your thought processes when running and that everything just slows down and it kind of is close to a meditational phase. I was just sitting there hearing that and was like, "Yes! Yes exactly! Someone else understands!" (maybe it was in the beans one or the Trials of Miles video).
Keep staying so positive and down to earth as you seem to be.
Best wishes!
Something ive noticed is that sometimes, you meet someone or see someone doing something who is, without a doubt, a well rounded individual. A forrest gump type person, a person whose done a lot and been to a lot of places. Someone who has a story. An individual. And those people are the most transformative to the people they talk to. I envy your students, they learn from someone who has gotten it straight: do what makes you complete. Do things. Go out there and experience the world at your fingertips. You dont too often meet someone like this. But i think you certainly fall into this group of people, Beau. A conversation with you must be captivating. And I aspire to be a well rounded individual like you.
Sir, your humor has everything to do with knowledge! Thats a fact...
And i believe, so that is my opinion, you deserve it! It is my opinion that you are blessed my friend... You are a multi-billionaire! Congrats my friend!
I LOVED how you worded that first answer. I love filming it because you get that chance to watch it back and unpack it all throughout years and years. When a trip is so incredibly packed with new adventure and unique moments its hard to take it all in. Watching it back on film allows you to fully experience and take in each moment. I love it
I’ve never seen someone on this platform this genuine and down to earth, you make me strive day to day how to be better allround. All I can say is thank you.
