In a sea of RUclips auto influencers and “reviewers,” I always appreciate Tom’s journalistic narration and ability to convey plenty of information without being overly wordy. It’s masterclass.
I love the throw-back white rally wheels. This is my favorite version of the Mach-E so far. Like all EVs, it does qualify for the full $7500 federal credit on lease.
Great review Tom. Thanks. Love this. Although I believe those tires will really wear quickly with the EV’s history of wearing tires faster than ICE’s. Good job ford.
An interesting take on the Mach E, I think they look quite good, nice colors and graphics. Kind of gimmicky but not too ricey! Love almost all your videos, but the ones from Dirtfish have a special appeal. Rarely see other auto journalist reports from the that off the beaten path spot.
Between this and the Ioniq 5 N I'm really loving the innovation going on in the performance-oriented EV space. Very cool product, great vid as always Tom!
14:49 - Tom there's not enough information on this new rear motor from ANY of the other outlets so i'm going to ask you, what EXACTLY is the difference (ie. HP/TQ/kW) between this new motor Vs. the old motor produced by Borg Warner. this data seems to be conspicuously ABSENT. also where the heck's the differential located...? has it been placed inside the rotor like a Lucid...? tucked inside the planetary...? yeah far too much is being skipped over about this new DU and inquiring minds want to know. thanks Voelkmeister.🤙
Let me start you off with an image of the motor in an exploded view. drive.google.com/file/d/1B7PWtAxKsAvGKh1tiTZvrbJFU1utrWs5/view?usp=share_link It's not as elegant as the Lucid units which are insanely compact. The new motor (taken from the Lightning) makes 264 HP and 387 lb-ft and can sustain peak power longer than the outgoing version that was normally rated at 255 HP and 306 lb-ft. The old one could develop additional power in some applications but again, it struggled to maintain full oomph on the track. Not sure how much more the new one can sustain but they were being pushed hard at DirtFish. Hope this helps.
@@DrivenCarReviews re: "Hope this helps." A: it does thank you. 👍 okay from the exploded view i see the diff (for the Lightning) does appear to be placed inside the planetary now, instead of hanging off the end which technically made the old Borg supplied DU wider. edit: now we just gotta get somebody to do a review (with weights and measures) of the new single motor base LFP Mach-E. 😎
Tom, is more expensive with less range the wrong direction to take an EV? Some (Ford) will argue that the Rally has more capability; which is not a lie, but on one's daily commute, how many muddy dirt roads is one going to encounter to use the new potential of the Rally trim? When is the more affordable, longer range Mach-E hitting showrooms?
It’s the same with ICE cars. Most people don’t need the extra capability of a performance vehicle (which comes with inefficiencies and trade offs) but want it for whatever reason.
Big differences, the Ford is made for dirt. Roads and rally inspired driving. The five and is more of a track animal. But really both are fine for every day on road use.
Sooo, being the most inefficient Mach-E, do those smart Ford engineers know where to go to recharge the thing when you've drained the battery off-road rallying? Better chance of finding a gas station off the beaten path than a charge port, let alone a fast charger. Nice idea, but still waiting for an infrastructure that is a decade away.
The Mach E does NOT have the 😎 mustang vibe on any level. Too generic looking inside and out which devalues the Mustang brand. Reminds me of the Mustang 2. Total flop.
Yes, I always said that all they had to do was call it the Mach-E and NOT call it a Mustang of any kind. One of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. Ford's Aztek.
I have to admit .... when it comes to THIS car ..... I just don't care. I don't like the Mach-E and I HATE the use of the Mustang name in association with it. It is butt ugly to boot.
The white wheels are a fun throw back to the classic Lancia Delta Integrale's rally wheels :)
Yeah, they definitely have that classic Speedline wheel vibe.

People complaining about an all-conditions performance car...
Now THAT'S hilarious!
NOW WHY would I spend nearly $70,000.00 (when you include taxes!) and beat the hell out of it? I just don’t understand.
I also rode with Jack! He’s awesome!
Sounds like a fine EV. Forest roads call me; not muddy rally tracks.
Same thing if you're quick enough! 😂

i thot federal ev discount was only if the EV was made in the US
@@rickjames5998 For purchases, yes. For leases every EV qualifies due to how leases are categorized.
Love the green

all i could think was "this could have been a Focus". i also wonder whether an ultrasonic cleaner can be use for action cemaras

If you grew up driving in snow all the instructor has to say is..."just drive it like you stole it.".
🔥🔥 Good Job Tom ...
I’d drive this. And it would be fun to dirtfish this. I did their offroad course last month and it was a blast.
I NEVER use my sunroof. Performance vehicles in general do not have sun/panoramic roofs.
Get the Premium trim for suburbia.

The soundtrack is fine but there is no video (except for the first image) until 1:40. Tom keeps talking but the image stays the same.
Working fine on my end. Maybe try again?
Why no $7500 rebate?!?! Great video, btw.
I do not think it is eligible for the $7500 rebate because it is made in Mexico
I dig it.
How I see one of these on the road near me when they release.
The rear spoiler with the weird connectors is not nice on the eyes.

How does this compare to the Ioniq 5/5N?
Big differences, the Ford is made for dirt. Roads and rally inspired driving. The five and is more of a track animal. But really both are fine for every day on road use.
Yeah no.. Need more clearance. More range... Dont want to get stuck with no charger for 50 miles in any directions
Much like the lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter and the difference between Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, this one's difficult to understand...🤔🤔
Absolutely none of the 10 people who buy one of these is doing any "rallying" with it
Why does that motor have an oil filter
The single-speed reduction gearbox attached to the motor has ATF in it and needs a filter
Ford has mastered the art of making cars that nobody wants. Who goes rallying in a ev crossover?
Well, I think that Ford is second only to GM in THAT regard.
Great job by ford on the EV part. Styling a little strange.
Has anyone received the Free Tesla adaptor from Ford?
Seems like they have
Mustangs do not have four doors. Don't care what they call that car.
That giant wing will appeal to certain people but it's way too ostentatious for me. Too bad it can't be deleted.

Maybe you can carry a gas powered generator in the trunk and burn 5 gallons getting a 20% charge to get you home. LMAO
A solution to a problem no one had. I really don't like hearing from the manufacture reps either, just over hyped propaganda.
I edit the hype out, leave information in. For videos, they're good pacing elements.
As are a majority of comments to this video. Especially when they "claim" how good looking it is. LOL

Nobody is buying this catastrophe.
At least it’s not a Tesla 😂
