No it just that he wasn't necessarily a rapper that stood out to people, so when he passed, and it deeply affected people in the community it made people change their minds and give him a chance.
He's a stranger in a culture and art form where he has to carve a unique image.
People aren't weird, they can change and evolve over time.
Before Divine Feminine he was literally a cookie cutter frat rapper, then he evolved himself.
It's how Macklemore ,lil dicky fell off , and nobody cares because they are replaceable (jack Harlow replaced him).
If Tyler Continued on the track of making Goblin,Bastard and Cherry Bomb; he wouldve have been another Hopsin or big Sean.

His initial Freshman -Junior run gave off the initial impression of who he was then during that 2015ish era His transition became more noticeable but they then people already had their ideology of who he was; Same for Tyler as well even though they evolved well last expectations.
You also Have to account for Mac Competition being Extremely stiff.

This is largely why Hip Hop is dying on the charts. You have a few rappers who make big money but the rest are struggling to make ends meet. This much was evident in the Baby Mama video that their expenses are just as high as their income and even then it's not much.
This recent fiasco with Kendrick basically created a monopoly for him.
Meanwhile all the white people who used to buy the albums have moved onto EDM because there's no stigma against a white person liking that. Making Hip Hop only centered on Black people has effectively driven out your major audience.
This was NEVER the case for Rock where the founders were black but eventually passed on to majority white bands.

I whole heartily believe it's not a race issue but rather a person issue. We just haven't had a goat caliber white rapper since Em. It's not a race issue. It just depends on the rapper. As you said there is a lot of underground white rappers, but they lack the mainstream flair to them. And the other way is also true. There is a lot of mainstream white rappers, but they don't have the underground flavor to them. Hence no one has been the "next white rapper" which in it self is a very stupid term honestly. It's not a race issue. It just happens to be we haven't had a white rapper since Em who can do both.

I believe he explained how listening to "circles" helped him understand the meaning of "swimming".
I clearly understand how this particular exemple could be seen as someone trying to change their opinion to please more people, and maybe it is idk,
but some people seem to not understand that you can just change your mind on stuff and it's ok.

The problem is likely due to the fact that we fixate too much on rap being for one particular group of people instead of acknowledging that music is to be shared. Rap is literally an acronym for "rhythm and poetry". While it originated in particular demographic, it has evolved and changed quite a bit since then. We should stop gatekeeping and let new creative minds into these spaces regardless of where they come from. Hating on someone due to their color is just plain boring.
