Best way to sum up the scene: Kairi: “Oh my god, you’re alive! *hugs Sora* I missed you, Sora!” Sora: *hesitates before hugging her back* Riku: “Aight, imma head out.” Sora: “Riku! 😭 I missed you!”
To be fair, this wasn't the first time Kairi got kidnapped and it wouldn't be the last. The last he heard of Riku was that something had happened to him, both Xemnas and Mickey know about it and neither said a thing to him. Riku was basically his big brother. Kairi wasn't exactly his girlfriend yet.
Sora didn’t save Riku in KH1. So he looked everywhere in KHCoM and most of KH2 to find him and the king because of Donald and Goody. He found and brought back Kairi in KH1, and found Mickey who was the only one who Sora saw last with Riku but still he couldn’t find him. When he finally found Riku with Kairi, Sora had the right to cry out of relief and happiness Riku is okay and safely reunited with his friends which is Kairi, Mickey, and Sora along with Donald and Goofy. Just shows how much Human that Sora is really caring for a best friend.
He missed him as much as he doesn't understand how long he had asleep and almost manipulated by Xehanort and the organization 13. All Sora knows is Kairi is safe and Riku is missing before their reunion in The World that never was.
Funny because for Sora alone it only felt like a few weeks or months at most(He didnt get to experience the year he was asleep so it doesnt count),but for Kairi and Riku they had been seperated for an actual year.
I always felt like the first two (main) KH games were the journeys Sora went on to find his two dearest friends: Kairi and Riku, in that order. More than anything else, that's what Sora wanted and fought for.

That scene with the reunion with Sora, Riku, and Kairi had me emotionally drained. I had really wet eyes at this point. It's such a heartwarming and emotional scene for me in my opinion.
I love how deeply Sora is affected by Riku. Romantic love is powerful but so is brotherhood and friendship. You can love a friend powerfully and that shows in this scene.
I don't think the romantic type of love is special and I think that the romantic type of love isn't real. More than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse. Romantic relationships are pointless, while platonic relationships are not.
Everyone laughing at sora not reacting to being with Kairi again the same as when finding out that was riku need to realise: Sora knew Kairi was back on Destiny Islands after the first game so he didn't have a reason to worry about her. As for riku, he thought he lost him after that door closed. If I was Sora, I'd react the same way
The opposite, really. Sora was in the WtNW trying to rescue Kairi from being kidnapped, so he knew she wasn't safe. On the other hand, Mickey had told Sora earlier that Riku was safe and Sora believed him. Also, it is not just the reaction, it is the fact it is dead silent when he reunites with Kairi but, when he sees Riku again, it plays Dearly Beloved which DDD confirms is Sora and Riku's song (Mickey says it is the song that plays when their hearts are in unison).
@@xuniepyro7399 Did you play through the parts of the game where Sora is DESPERATELY SEARCHING FOR RIKU?
