Königsberg (Kaliningrad) was also to return to Germany. The entire legacy of Stalin's policy has to be undone.
I hope it returns to Germany soon. Hope the old center of Köningsberg will be rebuild as it was 150 years ago.

It’s very unlikely it will return to Germany, being the vast-majority of the people are ethnic Russians now. If the Germans weren’t ethnically-cleansed from the region and it still joined the USSR, then it would have been possible to rejoin Germany. However, the Russians living in Kaliningrad wouldn’t want to join Germany. And it would be very difficult to convince them to move to mainland Russia without a form of forceful deportation. Plus, it’s a perfect ice-free port for the Russian military in the middle of the Baltic Sea (just like Crimea). So I doubt they will be giving it up anytime soon.

@@Oberkommando I am glad you guys at least still have national pride. Sure, there are still Germans who love their country in a good way but erasing the very word "Deutschland" is just plainly wrong. It literally means "land of the people", for God's sake

The tune is very familiar
The British annotator is ignorant and mean-spirited. He translates the 1st words of the 3rd stanza of the Deutschlandlied wrong. It's not "unity, peace and freedom" but "unity and justice and freedom". And it's not new, it was always in the original Deutschlandlied that became national anthem in the Weimar Republic. The Nazis didn't dare to quit the whole anthem because it was very popular but quit the 3rd stanza.
I apologise for my historical compatriot's giving of misinformation. I'm glad we have the internet now to make learning these things easier. Even so most Brits now wouldn't even be able to name two words from the first line of the verse now used as your national anthem.
Within 20 years the Saarlanders gave their Saarland away two times.
