Dig the way the Oz commentators offer unique perspective on WA and Aussie surfing history.

Lots of odd scores dropping.... Not to mention that this mid season cut thing really sucks... These athletes earn their spot, let them keep it for the whole season!

Shame they start cutting world class athletes midway through the season.

It's ridiculous. You make it on tour, you deserve to compete in all the events. A gimmick to create reality tv "drama". So is the "Final 5" idiocy.

U both must be new to professional sports just like mlb u get sent down to aaa,aa, or a or basketball u get sent down to the g league. In football it’s worst u get sent to the practice team. And the final 5 is like the playoffs in professional sports every sport has a playoff series.

@@keanihawaii8540 Surfing always had a "minor league" but this isn't a team sport and there's no such thing as a postseason. The playing conditions of team sports are constant (regulation courts, fields, equipment, etc.) The sport of surfing has constantly changing "playing conditions" and surfing ALL the locations on the tour is critical for showing who is the most balanced champion. Surfers rankings over the ENTIRE YEAR heavily depends on all the locations/conditions. This new mid-year cut artificially penalizes surfers who do better at locations in the 2nd half. And the "Final 5" makes a mockery of ALL of it. And to prove the distorted rankings this produces, look at 2x Toledo...on the tour for a decade and he wins a title ONLY AFTER after removing a third of the competitive field, shortening the number of contests AND heats, and making Tahiti not matter any more.

Third event in a row held in minor slop. Maybe they should bring the Inflatable Wave Pool just in case

I think Brisa was highly over scored. Not the first event I’ve felt that way either. This is what all the Brazilians were fussing about a few years back. I witnessed it at the surf ranch with Italo and Griffin last year.
