Every example she gives is exactly what conspiracies often are-blatant falsehoods. She seems to be talking about the scattered approach of conspiracy labels possible shrouding an actual truth. However, she lists napoleon being wary of a conspiracy and establishing a 15 year coup. Then proceeds to end it on the freedom of expression to *have* conspiracies? She proceeds to use a slippery slope of if people are labeled conspiracy theorists, they may be criminalized? All around pretty bad logic, or perhaps it’s a communicative barrier
I was bit skeptical at the start, but she has very thought-provoking points. I am now working on authority of science and how should we counteract against science denialism, but without being vigilant there Is always danger of supressing free speech. I think French academics are generally more aware or sensitive to this problem, then Germans for example.
I think Eugénie Mérieau mistakes the concept of 'conspiracy theorist' for the concept of 'skeptic'. Skeptics are rational and admit the possibilty of being wrong if proven, conspiracy theorists are completely irrational.

The term conspiracy theory is derogatory and it's meant to be so. If you say something ridiculous, you should expect to be ridiculed. And I agree that classic philosophy should be taught in schools. I disagree that logic alone is sufficient evidence. I have to say good job, at least her dialogue actually centered on conspiracy theory, Quassim Quassam was supposed to speak on the subject, it was like he was thinking out loud. History is replete with conspiracy. In fact most of history is about one group or an individual conspiring on another group. Im the mother of two, i disagree with your false statement about the Santa clause and the Parents! Parents are not covering thier kids with a lie to control them for what soever you think of. We just wanted our kids to be happy and teaching them what is right . This woman must haved a terrible experienced in life with her parents to considering them a liar.
