I can't stop laughing at Dave's reaction to the car payments lol
Guy Zandler I don’t think anyone can either. If they’re not literally laughing right now, they’re covering their mouths with their hands
Mike Nelson agreed! That's on another level..
Guy Zandler Priceless 😂
That's the face of kittens flying out!
Yes it was priceless!!
When a multi-millionaire is surprised about your car payments.. then you’re doing something terribly wrong 😂😂
@Evelyn star yup. A multimillionaire
He's surprised because he knows the guy is broke, Dave can afford $1100 but choses not to because of his past
I think what happens with most people is they increase their standard of living as their income rises with age. You make a lot, you spend a lot. What most people need to do is keep their standard of living low as their income rises. That's what i have done. I make 80k and live like i make 50-60k so i have room for savings. When i get my next job and pay increase, i will still live like I make 50-60k and put away more. After that, I'm free. But most people can't do that because they enjoy living in the moment, which is fine, but you need to balance it out a little bit by putting at least some money away especially with his salary.
@@AB-yc1np He does buy expensive cars. He pays cash though
It’s Dave, he would have a similar reaction to a $400 car payment.
It's so frustrating to see these people earning hundreds of thousands of dollars calling up to complain about their bills.
At least they had the courage to get checked really good by Dave Ramsey; Now what they do with what he suggests is totally on them.
Financial security does not come from your income but your behavior. There are people who earn 30k a year and are debt free while there are people who own 200k and are completely broke
To be fair he wasn't actually complaining at all. He seemed very aware of the fact he put himself into the situation
Dave has a segment on people complaining about other people who make more than them...watch that Inclined(actually reclined so you don't fall too far when it hits ya)
I earn waayyyyyy waayyyyyy less than this person and still have savings and all my bills are paid. Living withing my wage helps a lot.
Something tells me he's self employed and $175k is just his revenue w/o factoring in any expenses
Dave Ramsey was going on about him being smart. No not really, totally average people run into money sometimes. This is that case.
@C C Net profit is before taxes, homie
@@brianb900 watch the video. He said his net profit BEFORE TAX was 175k.
The man is here ....wrong. When you own a business you have Gross Revenue....minus business expenses....equals Net PROFIT.....Net profit can then be moved over and considered Gross INCOME....minus taxes....equals Net Income.
Justin Russell you basically said what I already said.
Dave, can we get a “Where are they now” segment ?
Yesssssssssss

80k business expenses?

I had that same reaction when Trump got elected.
Yup, he said Cadillac. I'm guessing he got the top trim Escalade with all the options which would be about 100k once you add taxes and fees, then finance that at 5.9% or whatever rate he said. No bueno!

Rule one..high income doesnt prevent one from getting in debt...actually can make you get in debt quicker.
Mark G yep! Even though it’s no secret, the book Millionaire Next Door discusses that in great length. Great book and amazing read.
Mike Nelson Yeah I love that book. A must read if you want to build wealth.
If one lives within one's means, then one would not be in debt...would one. There is no excuse for exceeding one's income, especially making $175,000 a year. This guy could have purchased a new car for $20,000 but instead chose to get a $90,000+ car...why? He could live in a home that costs $100k and have a small monthly payment, but probably lives in a home worth a half million dollars paying $2200 per month. He probably bought all of his electronics and other 'toys' with credit cards, completely ignoring the fact that he could have easily bought all of them directly from his bankroll. He roughly grosses $14,583 per month...there is NO EXCUSE.
The Moonlit Quill Agree I see it alot people in all income levels dont live within own means. My theory is they arent happy with life and try to fill it with fancy possessions most cant afford but that doesnt work.
Mark G I can see that. As if they are filling a void. If that be the case, it would be stemming from a place of deep hurt; the loss of a beloved parent, spouse, child, or dare I say...pet. After my mother died of cancer, my dad completely flipped on his normal thrifty spending habits and started buying expensive items he has yet to use. He's not in debt, mind you, but he has come close to feeling the pinch of what it feels like to live month-to-month because of his choices. I see your point, and can completely respect where you're coming from. It has merit :) material wealth cannot fill the emptiness that hurting people experience...at some point, they will have to face that fact. Counseling or therapy can be extremely helpful once the reality sets in.
There’s no way he makes 175 net income. He doesn’t know how much he actually profits
he is self employed man. you don't just immediately know what you make per month when it fluctuates so much. If someone asked me how much I make I would need to think for a sec too and average it out.
@@kl9043 the guy still didn’t know even after thinking. And if you’re in the same boat hire an accountant or learn your numbers and forecasts or your business will be in trouble long term

My mortgage is about what this dude pays for his car. That is UNREAL...
My mortgage AND my car was what this guy is paying.
Jabre Thornton thats a normal payment now a days for 84 months
juan cavazos That is absolutely bonkers...
juan cavazos That is incorrect. Out of all of the people I know with car notes covering sports, luxury, and trucks, none of them came even close to $1,100 a month. If you can't pay cash for a vehicle that expensive, it'd be best to just walk away. Having nice possessions is fine, but it isn't wise to knowingly struggle paying for them when they're technically unnecessary.
84 months? That's WAY too long for a car loan.

@@alexl.102 it means that Dave Ramsey is calling him out. The phrase is throwing shade on someone
That's Cornpone Dave
As a business owner, this story is odd. I really don’t think he makes $175k a year. The $175k is probably total revenue. Many small business owners associate total revenue as their income. I have a feeling he puts the vehicles in the business name. Probably makes $65K equivalent.
Chase Vineland it’s total revenue for sure. After expenses he thought he was at 120K. But i bet his accounting is off.
Steve Johnson he needs to hire an accountant
I bet 175k is his revenue less cost of goods sold, but doesn't have any other expenses factored in.
Yeah, 175k and cant make payments. This guy runs a business he has no excuses so he cant be that dumb, unless he is lying about his income. Kinda sound like it
Exactly. Revenue doesn't pay the bills, only straight cash flow.
The vehicle isn't the real problem... there is something else going on here.
Musa I of Mali coke and hookers is my guess.
Musa I of Mali It's called a wife
Musa of Mali was the richest man who ever lived. He certainly wouldn't listen to the Dave Ramsey show.
He probably has no idea how much he actually makes and has blown his expenses way out of proportion to his income. If he was going back and forth between 120,000 and 175,000 as his net profit before taxes, he doesn't really know how much he makes
Drugs. Gotta be drugs, or strippers or some kind of insane addiction.
These are very valuable rules for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $109k now to put in the market.
Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. I know someone who made over $350k in this recession influenced market, but to the best of my knowledge, it was through a financial advisor.
@@devereauxjnr Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $21k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.

He doesn’t have a spending problem, he has a paying his bills problem
Dan Jendo Yes!
He has a numbers problem. He doesn't know the numbers. He doesn't know his revenue, his gross income, or his net income. He doesn't know how much of his net income is disposable and how much is discretionary. He doesn't know how much a work truck should cost or how much a secondary car should cost. If you need a 3/4 ton truck for work, your second car should cost half as much and get twice the fuel economy.

You're right....there must be other expenses somewhere that this guy has not told Dave about. There is a cash flow log jam somewhere that was not covered.
The caller did mention "other expenses", but the host only seemed interested in debt. A storage unit would not be considered debt.
Other expenses...going out, clubbing, dinning out, living large...
Jeff C. It's not debt but it's still payments
It was the "your work trucks nicer than your wife's car" for me 🤣🤣🤣
Typical of people who can't manage money, and who fall prey to materialistic greed. "The more they make...the more they spend". As a single woman making approximately 20K, I live well enough on this income. But then...my Toyota is 12 years old, (very reliable car) and my small, very modest home was paid for years ago. Having to pay cash in full for a car makes someone think twice about if its worth it, while the dealer tries to make you think about how much it will be a month.
It’s crazy how he was an Escalade owner that im sure a lot of people were jealous of not even knowing that he can’t afford it. It happens constantly especially on the west coast with everyone thinking everyone else cares about their car
It's nuts man! My basic assumption with almost all fancy cars is that the person can't afford it. Almost everyone over-reaches. So if they are poor, they get a Mercedes, if they are middle-class a Porsche, semi-rich a Ferrari, etc... its like guys... just shift down one category and you'll be fine! I see it all the time. My wife's a personal trainer and all of her female clients drive loaded luxury SUVs like this. Most don't work and their husbands are only pulling low six figure salaries and they have giant expensive houses too. Only one client could actual afford that type of car... husband is a literal pro-golfer worth tens of millions of dollars... If I pulled up next to someone that wealthy with the same car as me I would immediately drive it back to the dealer and sell it, bwhahahaha. You've clearly oversteped.

My head hurts and it’s not even my debt 😭
I know some people have issue with Dave’s methods but his formula and root problem solving is so fun to watch, especially since it works.
Money management skills are not taught in high school that I know of. If a child's parents don't teach it either because they have no money skills of their own or because they have no money, then the child may grow up to be financially irresponsible. Money management is something we learn, not something that we are born knowing. If role models are absent, people may just throw money around. It pays to learn this stuff online or out of many excellent books. Most good money management books are not boring.
Money management would be a great subject to be taught at schools for sure. But in my opinion it’s not rocket science and everybody can learn it with basic math. It’s just about attitude. Most people just don’t care, and buy stuff with their emotions.
We have the same problem here in the UK, and I can testify to children growing up financially irresponsible from the poor example I was shown when growing up.
He didn't specify if he got the Cadillac new or used or which model. A new Escalade starts at $75,000 and quickly run up past $95K on high trims. $1100/mo is very easy to get to. One scenario if he got the base model, put $20K down, financed for 60 mo. at 5.9% brings you to around $1100. No money down and he'd be in the $1400+/mo range.
I laughed so hard when he said: "Luxury SUV, it's a Cadillac.", hahaha, he was paying $1,100 a month for a Tahoe with leather seats!!!
Average Tahoe moderately loaded I'd 75k sticker.....Cadillacs easily hit 100k...same with Ford navigator...

Not hating. Just, I will never understand how people making six figures can be in debt. Never in a million years.
Well I'm in debt with student loans. Without the schooling I wouldn't be making six figures.
I know what you're saying but in some ways it's all relative. Someone making 100k who spends 120k is no different than the person making 20k but spending 25k. But then again it's more understandable if someone is making 20 and struggling not to go over budget. I don't know it just seems like most people think they're on a different level when they start doing well and want so bad for people to think they're at the next level up that they'll go into debt to make that happen.

to be fair 30k is 20k less then avg.
Ali Pardhan granted! However it is nowhere close to making 125k a year. I'd be a millionaire in less than 6 years if I were pulling those numbers. I suppose we all have our weaknesses though. I hope the fellow in the phone pulls it together.
Personal finance success is about playing offense (earning money) and playing defense (controlling expenses).
Gabriel Flores don't be jealous you work at McDonald's.
Job Done Right
Lol! I don't think McDonald's pays their employees that much. But jealousy is not here. I do well to not let others lifestyle affect my peace.
:38 Me when I get the check at a restaurant. HOOOAAAHOHO, what kind of chicken nuggets was this?
Why is dave surprised at the cost of pickup trucks every time? They are expensive vehicles. 55000 CAD for something half decent
I have no idea! I think Dave owns either a Raptor or a Roush F-150 so he should know expensive trucks... It's probably just he is a millionaire and buys his trucks in cash and doesn't think about them again.
"$1100 a mont.. HO HO HO!!!" Wakanda car is this!
Cars are really killing American wealth, jeez.
My car is 17 years old. My previous car was 21 when the engine fell onto the steering rack. The desire to have cars you can't afford is ki.ling American wealth.
Blatantly blunt solutions to extract oneself.from financial disasters. Dave is refreshingly straight forward.
I love Dave's reaction to car payment.
$1100 vehicle payment??? That's almost twice my rent! Thank goodness I live in an area that doesn't have a high cost of living.
No one:
Literally not a soul:
Dave Ramsey: WOAH HO HO HO
I make 39 and pay all my bills while getting out of debt, what the heck dude?! And i live in Dallas
i almost had heart attack when he said he was paying 1,100 a month for his car just like dave almost did. lord i wish i could make 175k a year
johnvelazquez1320.. In Malaysia, if we took a loan for 100+(Honda civic) , here it is normal we pay 1100-1300 for 9 years. Shortest is 5 years but will pay double..USA is blesses with cheaper car price there but as i know need to pay insurance every month right?
90% of calls are just ridiculous. Like how stupid can someone be to pay $1100/month on a vehicle🤦♂️
i love how he keeps referring to the wife's car as "momma's car" lol
It sounds like people dont know how to budget. ITs hard if you dont know.
You don't get a reaction like this very often from Dave
My heart jumped when dave reacted to the car payments!
His car payment is my monthly income lol 😂
I could understand if this guy had a wife and kids and lived somewhere expensive such as London, San Francisco, or Manhattan, but he can't manage a $175K annual income living in DALLAS, TX?!
It's called LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS. Never once have I ever had a credit card, nor have a I borrowed money to "buy" a car. If I don't have the cash for it, then I don't need it; it's really that simple. I hate this credit based system because it turns people into mindless automatons incapable of controlling themselves. They see a $10,000 credit limit and thing 'SHOPPING SPREE'!!! You have to pay that back, every red cent. So, how much of what you have do you actually OWN???? Do you have a mortgage, car payment, boat payment??? You don't own any of it...the bank owns it and the bank owns you. That is how it is. Save your cash, buy with cash and suddenly you start owning things...literally owning them. So until you've paid off your mortgage, you're borrowing you home, and until you've paid off your car...well, you're borrowing that too. Makes one think...
The Moonlit Quill Well now wait. If you use credit cards wisely you can reap the rewards of cash back like i do. Already i have several hundred dollars in cash back from using my credit card. Try getting cash back just using cash!!!!!
bravo! yes, simple habits like this can go a long way, just pay cash for everything, and there's no worrying about paying interest rates or late fees.
so when i hear people do their debt free scream, usually they're debt free except for the house. that's not completely being debt free.
I've had credit cards since I was 18 (I'm in my late 30's now), and I've never paid a dime of credit card interest in my life. Some of us didn't turn into "mindless automatons incapable of controlling themselves."
The Moonlit Quill modern day slavery is all it is. Except these people decided their fate
I make les than 1/3 of this guy and I can pay my mortgage no problem and own my vehicles outright. Blows my mind that such wealthy people are struggling so much.
$1100 a month on a $35k car? WHAT THE ...I thought it was a Ferrari or something. I know plenty of people making $65000 a year and they can pay on time their $35-40k car. He should have paid in cash since he's making $175k a year.
It's worth $35k right now, that wasn't the purchase price brand new off the lot when he bought it (probably 4 or 5 years ago).
It was probably more like $70K @ 2.0 something interest
It was q Cadillac suv...luxury
Viet PopLove
A caddy is a 90 to 100k car
He shouldn't have bought it.
He makes 120k car after taxes and you spent 100k plus his other cars
Ummmm a Cadillac SUV Luxury cost around 90-100k or even more with upgrades
with 175k pre-tax profit, 120k take home salary, and the changes i've made with my lifestyle and mindset this past year, i could pay of my house in 1-2 years and just be content with life. some people are doing so well with income.
Hes got that snow going up his nose , I live good on $40k
He pays more on his vehicles then his mortgage? Ummmm ... what the?!? 😳🤦🏽♀️
So sad. 175k and broke! Poor money management!
So glad I found you page. Learning so much about finances. Love it...
