The Wilderness Rework is not what I expected

- In this video I cover my thoughts and first impressions on the Wilderness reborn (aka rework) update. On stream I mentioned enjoying the update and I really do like the new wilderness and it's mechanics, however for it to become a proper useful update there need to be some big changes to make it more rewarding. @@invictuous9222 I think it is intended, because it doesn't say it's connected to the wilderness. Perhaps this Jagex trying to give other options between relic powers vs. having an item (e.g. Luck of the Dwarves ring vs. Lucky Hand Relic Power).
These are great and lovely changes. Honestly i didn't expected the update to release bug-free but i'm glad these are being addressed.

the skull on familiar was steel titan, aoe was corruption shot/blast both the abilities made my friend skull on me, even tho he was opt out, i was opt out also

It's not so bad... Not nearly as bad as he makes it sound in this video... It'd be pretty hard to die to the threat system... Just don't go AFK and be prepared to run away when they randomly spawn enemies (basically... Which makes it kinda like it was before, but at least you don't get teleblocked)... What's really nice is that Jagex included messages in the chatbox for everything, so it's easy and super helpful to setup an AFK Warden preset in Alt1 Toolkit...
@@Noobimummo The Wilderness (Forinthry Forest) was never intended for newer/unskilled players. If you think Forinthry Forest is hard now, you should have seen it back in the day with hundreds if not thousands of players per world, revenant dragons level what was it, 126? (Which was the highest level before Summoning came out). My point is that despite how dangerous the place was, people still stuck around.
PSA: The persistent rage effect from the infernal puzzle box works both in and outside the wilderness, it just has to be in your inventory. (eventually with new tiers it will become passive, making normal arch relic irrelevant)
I kinda like having some redundancy for QoL stuff like this, so skillers and/or pvmers can get the same boost from different paths; especially if one path is harder and permanent
I do wish that having both have some advantage of some sort though, else it just feels kinda meh

I don't know, I appreciate Jagex's use of texture mapping in recent years but I think that the ground textures themselves were often WAY better in RSHD than the modern textures are. The modern textures are way too blurry/cartoonish. I would have preferred them to just convert the RSHD ground textures over and add texture mapping instead.
@@cds5067 That's bullcrap. Jagex has been known to use garbage excuses like that to justify laziness and honestly, with all the other crap they've been doing lately, that's just another cherry on top.

@@Chancey13 Mobile could handle RSHD's textures, just remove the texture mapping on the mobile version. They should never prioritize mobile over PC.

Teleporting through with Jennica's ring will reset threat. The one outside for the quick exit for safe cracking is still there.

I feel the monsters need more spacing, going to do a wyvern task and being attacked bu glacors and the new demons is a bit much feels like im playing a private server, seems rushed.

@@davidbliss5220 yeah, it was weird teleporting to GE and find adrenaline frozen at 82% but only out of combat.
I watched this not long after the update to Wildy. Now that I've lived with it for a little while, I love what Jagex did.
*adrenaline perk also works outside wildy with the box (which is very good). I also had like safe deaths, instead of being tp'd to death I just spawned with all items in edgeville.
FYI mod jack commented on Reddit about the abyss rc. I believe he said they will change it so you don’t need to be skulled/demonic skull. Seems it was something they missed

Why would abyss award extra stuff it has no risks though? I actually doubt they will change that.
@@GRIMHOOD99 There never really was a risk unless you were a very low level or were dumb enough to do it on a world with a ton of people in the wildy.

Jagex took a massive belt sander to the wildi ground look, how smooth it is! I miss my grunge textures :c
As an ironmen, i can tell you mate, i'm soooo happy i got my Decimation about 2 or 3 days ago :p
Now it's really hard to get the T87 weapons in my oppinion.. at least for ironmen.

the ambush mobs despawn after 1min, completeing tasks in the wilderness give a wilderness slayer chest which can reward the 3 slayer bounty weapons, the monsters themselves still have access to the wilderness drop table, and finally the effect of the infernal puzzle box is for everywhere not just the wilderness.

I think abyss runners SHOULD be skulled. It's OP as fuck to do runecrafting through the abyss, even without the demonic skull, compared to the traditional method of walking all the way to the altar. There needs to be a risk here.

When I went there trying tasks with mandrith, I got wrecked by the insane amount of lag by a high pin and died at least 5 times while doing abyssal lords because they are with numerous abyssal beasts and of course you can't teleport out after lvl 20.
remember that Slayer Dungeon in OSRS that they had to revert because it contained too many monsters, rendering other slayer spots useless?
Yeah, I feel like they did that with the wildy now in RS3 XD
I mean, it's cool that they added more monsters to the wildy, but it almost looks like they just used a Brush tool and splattered monsters everywhere
The ambush spawns sound like the old Random Events, annoying and actually making the Wildy not enjoyable.
I agree, it seems like there was no clear vision and now we just have monsters everywhere. We need a reason to be out there, this is not it.
I also hated the old Random Events.
this is revenants from back in the day but clusters of them, yet another waste of time and resources from jamflex, it would have been better just removing the wildy and using it for other stuff, like the rest of the game, the wildy could become habitable and eventually become populated with a few normal towns, they could have done all this via quests mini quests to change it
@@ianhopkins7457 nah. Destroying a huge part of the games history is a terrible idea. This update is trash because it also ruins the essence of the wilderness.
Instead of trying to work on balancing issues with PvP they chose the most lazy possible route.
@@AllenBooth but what % of people pvp, rs3 wildy, you are lucky to see a pker, almost nobody pk`s on the rs3 server, the real pkers know the fight is on the osrs server for pvp, those on rs3 be dweebs killing skillers for a spade or some shit, i`ll give you that occasionally i see edgeville w2 pkin but they noobs to fuck sitting next to the wall ready to dip if they gonna die, so with that said, said people can still fight each other near the wall and be happy, now in osrs you are lucky to not see a pker. so wheres the pk scene at..? rs3 wildy has been dead content since before the osrs server was remade, eoc killed rs3 wildy, would be such a waste of money and dev time trying to make the wildy in rs3 like it used to be many many many years ago, the masses didnt use it. in its old form, you wait and see the statistics when they get released of how much that area is being used now, compared to before, you sir are stuck far behind in the past, the rs3 wildy was pointless for years, so they made use of it, what you fail to realise is that rs3 players actually evolve with the game, we dont bitch quit and shit like osrs players

Sooo if i have lava stryke task and die to mobs is it considered a normal death or like a pk death and i lose my items?
I'm mostly just happy that I can unblock Lava Strykewyrms now, since I don't have to worry about getting somehow skulltricked while killing them.
It's still a pretty cool task, maybe not as profitable as it used to be, but hunting for the wyrm parts, specially the Scalp for the Strykebow, should be more enjoyable and safer now. Strykebow is also godsend for Zamorak Ranged Solos because it's essentially a T85 Shield you can use to both keep arrow stacks and heal off of by using Resonance, or extend the Debilitate effects with the Bulwark Perk (which btw, the Strykebow can hold both Weapon and Armour Gizmos).

Is there a good place to grind out the 144 demons for the Persistent Rage passive? Rumor has it the box works outside the Wildy too, so I want to add that to my bossing preset as soon as I can.
I did the aby demons close to Wilderness obelisk to get my comp cape back, it's quick.
The center wilderness volcano is good spot. Just teleport to lodestone and go a bit north to kill greaters :D
I just killed abby demons near lvl 18 obelisk, pretty fast
the box persistent rage effect works everywhere.
Glad to see my Living Wyverns made it into the wildy at least.. I wont lie i love how cancer they actually came out when i made that original Runelabs concept..
They're one of my favourite tasks because, if you're geared properly, they take like 5 seconds to die, but if you're ambushed they use a Uno Reverse card on you. Also they're quite a profitable and fast task. Thank you for them, wish Jagex kept runelabs :/

PSA: A dude said he’d show me the new divination changes and traded me 100 of random energies.
Then he said TP to Wildi lodestone and we’ll run together. Because I went into the Wildi with ancient energy it insta skulled me. There wasn’t even a warning on the lodestone TP which I think there should be. Luckily I escaped the Wildi before he could kill me
What about if you accidentally pick up with ancient energy? Like if you're in forinthry with full gear and someone drops ancient energy and you pick it up, do you know if that would skull you? If so, then I'd be paranoid going to the wilderness still.

The annoying part is you virtually can’t bank Darren when doing lava strykeworms. The demons are now outside the gated area.

I went out because I was curious about the rework. I also had bloodwood herbs planted and I needed more seeds. I also thought I might chop a few bloodwood trees while I was at it. I went naked except for what i needed for the trees and also one seed for the patch. I was enjoying it. I didn't get attacked while wood cutting. Kal'gerions looked but no attacks. I made it over to the far western tree with 1800 lifepoints but the glacors got me right after. But, I kept all the items I had received from the trees and the herb patch. Good to know. Also one can weave their way around these mobs and there are safe spots I learned. Was in one place from 1200 lifepoints until 4000. For the seed purchase I did have to skull. Bandits area nasty lot. I know what to bring next time now.
one thing i havent seen covered, is pvp enabled video's. does having pvp enabled mean no volcano, no mobs etc?
So, how does the whole monster spawn from threat work? If i start playing my snowflake wildy/chaos elemental title hcim again am I gonna have to worry about my 60 combat account getting jumped by a squad of mammoths or a slayer mob I can't even kill, or does it spawn somewhat level appropriate mobs to attack you?
So should I get rid of rippers in my pod ?
If you die in wild now do you just keep three items if you're there doing slayer? Or did they change it to dieing and talking to death? Sorry I don't think this was covered.
I feel like there should be some rewarding mechanic when it comes down to threat levels and skilling. What if every 5 levels you'd get +10% xp from safecracking or charming moths i.e.? It would make it less of an annoying mechanic for skillers, while actually pushing players to stay in the wilderness longer. I tried safecracking for 2 hours today and it felt like a bunch of annoying mechanics that would only kill me if i went fully afk, and just made my trips shorter for no reason, with no worthwhile reward. What if turning on PvP mode also gave an xp boost? There's a bunch of options to make these methods worthwhile... Hope they actually do something about it

Depending how you play, this can be good or bad.
I was never into pking and the thought of not having to worry about dying in the wild now makes me actually grateful of this. Can get way more kills per hour at lava wyms. Probably better for farming revs and chaos elemental drop log now.

Safecracking tips:
1. Bring jennica's ring, go to the back, north of the crack on the first floor and you can warp into the spirit realm to remove threat level.
2. Only abyssal savages have entered the room for me, greater demons, dark beasts, abyssal beasts have all been bugged to spawn outside, so if your slayer level is

I have read some stuff on this earlier and will watch the vid when I get the chance, but I feel the demon skull, cursed wisps and abyss RC should call cause a flat increase to threat elevl.and an accelerated threat growth rate, not force PvP so the main threat in doing those actions is PvM,.like intended by the Opt in PvP system

Wait? Unless I missed out on the patch notes, Forinthry Dungeon aka Rev Caves is no longer a PVP-zone?
The entire wilderness is no longer a pvp zone unless u opt into it.
Who would have thought that the update the entire wilderness and pvp community was against is a bad updated.
The "PVP" community is just gankers who look for people already engaged in combat with slayer monsters or people afk skilling that they can easily kill with no risk or skill. There is no legitimate PVP community.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 that's because jagex doesn't clear updates and new items with pvp mechanics. Noone wants to pk because jagex has made the learning curve nearly impossible to deal with

All I know is, I got the Chaos Elemental pet without worrying about being pk'd and that was enjoyable.

Did you try using an aoe ability on a monster with someone’s familiar next to you, that’s how the old trick worked
I feel like they should have added more caves and buildings. I mean just look at the slayer master. He sits out in the open. I also feel like the creatures are a little too much. There are now npcs that you cannot access because the creatures are overwhelming the area.
What about combat training in the abyss? Do you need to enable PVP for that?

Worth mentioning, in the current state, you need to carry the Infernal Puzzle Box with you at all times to benefit from those effects. This might change in the future and become a passive.
@@Kranon it will be. Also with the reduction of switch switchscape there's space. No ring of vigor or planted foot switches.
You should add the OSRS Wilderness when you do the comparison video, would be cool.
That does sound interesting indeed! One issue though, I can't fly around in osrs without the viewing orb :(

What about the higher threat, on an ambush the last mob would drop wildy chests dependent on threat lvl (amount)
That could also be interesting, although it would make farming threat level better than completing tasks. There would have to be a blanace or cooldown

You need to combine wilderness slayer with contracts then you'll be rolling in some amazing slayer exp, and you know free reaper points is always a good thing to.
The oldak coil afk method still the best way I think

I must've just entered a bad place in the wilderness, because it looks like absolute shit for me. Just flat textures of objects that should be 3D laid over some slightly undulating ground. For reference, this was between the wildy herb patch and the volcano. Just nothing there.
Yeah thats the deserted areas I was talking about. They need to receive some more texture and details.
tbh most reworks look like shit and/or are cooking gpus they should switched to some normal engine long time ago

I wish the Wilderness Sword 4 had the ability to teleport at ANY Wildy Level and not up to level 30. That'd make it an amazing QOL Item to bring.

PSA: You don't need to have the infernal puzzle box with you to kill 144 demons for the ability, it'll do it passively for all players regardless of level and experience and I didn't even have the box when I completed the achievement in the diary :)

Thats great and all? But it seems like they just made it kind of worse in general. I think they should have waited for it to be a bit more fleshed out. Especially with the recent zammy dungeon, I dont think anyone would have been offended to wait a bit longer lol.
@@ProtoxxGaming Yea, seems like a bit of a first step to transition into the beginning of the story. I took a tour and it looks nice, but it’s odd they didn’t update the creatures they now placed into the wild, looks odd and out of place compared to the newer models of many of them and some of the spots underground didn’t get an update which makes no sense. They stated they can utilize additional budget from a project but dark beasts and bandits are outdated models in a fresh new palette of the area. The mage arena underground didn’t get touched at all yet they updated the top portion lol.

Can you still be killed in the Wilderness and not lose your items? I've been Pk'ed on two occasions of late and lost 800mil (took a chance trying to get 2 slayer souls). I don't have much money left :(

Leveling a Hardcore Ironman, how 'dangerous' is the new wildy for me just to travel in? Should i avoid it still
U can definitely do stuff. But I highly suggest having food on you at all times AND keeping a super-antifire at hand if possible. Leave before ur threat level gets too high if u want to keep it safe

my thing is the new wildy is just the maw from WoW and that got abandoned.
Just make extra creatures give normal loot but less slayer exp than normal if you are training slayer while they spawn.
I don't understand what the confusion about using the Forinthry bracelet is? If there was absolutely no downside to using it, no one would use the actual altars. This is a convenience tax for using the abyss, because without it, it's free
Feel like they played a few RSPS and just dumped a whole lot of NPCs in the wildy and said "hey we revamp fam"
Omg, this means a nerf to Charming Moths 😢You said that still good if we quit of wild and back, for example, but this really still make it viable yet? At least afk is dead.
Also, if a corectly understood, can we get in there with our items because PVP e enabled only if needed?
i just wished they made it bigger, like imagine an entire new place up north, new small city where you can only get in if you have a certain reputation. like, not only do you need the new reputation thing, but you had to have killed some strong monsters as well.
this might be a place where you get even stronger slayer tasks, and it slike end level access stuff.
maybe even a dungeneering teleport, so you don't have to go to daemonheim or some shit to train.
hell maybe just add some new strong bosses that only have a limited amount each day, but doing slayer tasks may get them back. like, if you kill the demon boss, killing demons in slayer tasks will bring it back. each widlerniss boss drops a weapon part. this part, combines with chaotic weapon, ascension crossbow, can turn it into a new 94+ weapon. there is already a 94+ weapon, but have a wilderness only one, and one that takes a LOT of time to do, sounds way more fun
So far. I see the Wildy as better than it was. For the amount of map it consumes, it needs to have value. I think it's okay.
Still don't see myself doing Wildy content anytime ever tho, but to each their own

@@SmithCommaBenjamin True, my main complaint is that all the monsters just make the whole space feel smaller (like too much furniture in a room). Plus there's too much redundancy. Wish they would have released some new Wild-specific monsters or left space for more wildy mini bosses like in OSRS. A step in the right direction, but I hope they are open to feedback and have a long term plan in mind.

I'd be willing to bet that's the plan going forward. This update just screams "groundwork", a mere foundation for things to come.

Me with low slayer level cant do sh*t in wildy now. Good job locking wildy under slayer and herblore.
I'm not a pvper but I am going to miss the old wildy and that chance someone is going to run up and one shot you.
It really removes that general anxiety from there.
Now it's just monsters.
I haven't gone into the wilderness except for the wildy achievement diaries and bloodweed herb runs, for the last 8-9 years.
This might actually bring me back because it means I'm not likely to get instakilled the second a pker sees me, which has happened every time I've gone in with even half decent gear.
