That's fantastic I've always wanted to know how to do that other people say I'd need the same gear as zakk would use you've shown me thats not the case Many thanks
I was watching a rig rundown with Trivium, and you could hear that there were some squeelies on their backing track for their performance. Maybe Heafy is part human after all.
I have two LP's, one with alnico hum buckers and one with active EMG's (81-85), I get better pick harmonics with the hum buckers, I'm not putting down EMG pickups, I'm just sharing my experience, and I also play with high gain constantly!
Zach does like his signature squeal, you might remember from the movie “Rock Star” with Mark Wahlberg The scene with his cover band rehearsing Steel Dragon in the basement, Wahlbergs character stopped the song to make sure the squeal was just like the album Zach Wylde looks so young in that film all the cameo rockers look like kids, of course, because they were
Now I can do those quick squeals on Crazy Babies but that more pronounced squeal on No More Tears I cant get. Have three Epiphones, an Ace Frehley, Peter Frampton and a John Sykes but only called JS on Gibson. So you got good upper end Epis with hot pickups, 10guage strings, Drop C# tuning. Crate GT212 amp on clean. Monster Performer 500 cables, Zoom 505II on Van Halen setting, even my Boss GT8 on 5150 setting dosen`t help. Been wanting to get a Zakk Wylde wah pedal and it is being shipped as I speak. Hope to God that will bring out those squeals.
I’m having a lot of trouble with this I’ve been trying to learn for the song by Cannibal Corps “hammer smashed face” but I can’t get the damn pinch harmonic on the 6 fret on the E string
I'm not familiar with the song. Is it the high e string or the low e? Sometimes no matter how good you are at the page harmonics if you don't have the right pickups and/or guitar sound, you can only get the weakest of pinches. If you are getting really good strong picture harmonics elsewhere on the guitar and that one is off then you might need to work on the technique but if you can't get them anywhere and you've been at it for a while, there's a good chance that you need to try different setup.
It’s in the low E string it does a sliding power cord from 2 to 3 back to 2 then jumps to the 6 fret hormonic followed by a open E it does it real fast so I’m having trouble jumping to a good harmonic
I’ve tried different ways of holding the pick and noticed when I slightly touch the string with my left hand strum it then bend it it makes a similar harmonic but doesn’t sound the same as a pinch harmonic
Ah okay. You probably need to practice this like a speed lead lick then where you do it at slower speech of the metronome where you can get it cleanly and just add a couple BPM at a time and work your way up over several days or even weeks.
Yes thank you for replying and helping I have noticed when I strum and then touch it with my thumb it does the sound but I can’t get it to do it at the same time with one single motion
@@MusicWithMarky With bass pinch harmonics you lay the side of your thumb on the string and pluck the string with your ring finger (at least I do cause I have a pick in my hand LOL). -=80)
High strings are easier?? Every friend I have, every person who has done a video on the same subject has said the exact opposite! Man, I hate conflicting information on things that are already driving me batshit crazy 😫
Depends on the player. I do notice that modern players using more modern sounds seem to have an easier time getting pinches on low strings. Me being more an 80s guy and using those kind of sounds it's much easier for me to get a pinch on like the g-string.
AWESOME! Your videos show the kind of stuff beginners like me wonder about that I haven’t been able to find in books etc. Thanks!
That's fantastic I've always wanted to know how to do that other people say I'd need the same gear as zakk would use you've shown me thats not the case

Happy to help!
Nice video! The calm, cool, and collected vibe definitely helped.
Glad it helped!
Just what I was looking for. Been working on “No more tears”.
Happy to help!
I really love zak's signature low string vibrato.
I don't know if he was the first guy to do that as much, but he was the first I are doing so and I loved it!
Saw you through some ad and i couldn’t say not to subbing, very good channel
Thanks!!
You have lot of cool guitar

Yup, there ya go. They just aren't something you can nail perfectly every time, especially when you're running around performing.
Thx

I found that bare knuckles and Seymour (Nazgul) worked best for me.

That was such a fun movie. It's crazy looking back at how young everyone looked, you are right.
Great lesson , still finding them hard to do though 😐

It can be rough sometimes without the right equipment/sound. Best of luck!
Get some of Zakks 81/85 EMG pickups, job done ✔
Equipment does matter. What I used in the video here wasn't optimal for getting squeals even.
Beautiful guitar. The fanned frets really stand out.
Thanks!
@@MusicWithMarkyI can't make it out on the video. What brand guitar is that?
@stephencraig8578 That It's from a company out of Australia called, Ormsby.
@@MusicWithMarky thank you!
good lesson man, keep going.
a question ! earnie ball super slinky are okey for squealing ?
I haven't ever tested a difference between string brands. That's an interesting thought. I know those strings work well, though.
Was that riff from Mr tinkertrain?
Never mind its crazy babies
If it was, only by accident.
Wait are you the voice for the JCS Channel? You sound just the same
I am not. I don't even know what that is.

It seems to me that the wide vibrato is key.
They definitely go hand in hand.
It’s definitely the key, at least that’s how I nailed it
It's not as convenient, but doing a bass pinch harmonic yields insane squeals. 👍
Yeah, those are tough to get!
@@MusicWithMarky With bass pinch harmonics you lay the side of your thumb on the string and pluck the string with your ring finger (at least I do cause I have a pick in my hand LOL). -=80)
U can also harmonic with a pick and a touch. But i dont think thats considered a pinch harmonic 😆
Heavier strings like 10 to 11 string sets?
That does make it some easier, yes.
@@MusicWithMarky also in the video he said to raise your action to how to you do it

You realize this is a black screen during the whole video, right?
Not sure what's going on for you, but it hasn't been for others.
You’re probably in an unsupported country
It's a wrong way to get pinch harmonics by twisting your hand. A hand should always move parallel to the strings.
3:11 get used to that AWFUL sound. You will hear it, you will get sick of it. Growing pains of becoming a good guitarist lol.
Terrible. You do want to hit the pick and thumb at the same time but you need to bend it. And no one sounds like Zack
