- Happy Monday,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend, we certainly did! We took our trailer out for the first time and it was so much fun!! We went just 1 hour away to a place called Selkirk. Was just a small little campground but was a great first location!
We took the boats into Lake Erie, we had a bbq for dinner, and finished it off with a campfire watching the fireflies fly around! Oh and not to mention we ran into a hungry raccoon!

My name is Louise and i am documenting my move from the UK to Canada! Myself and my boyfriend Jake moved to Canada on 26th December 2019 on a 2-year working holiday visa. We moved to Ontario near Niagara Falls and we are loving every minute! In 2021 we gained permanent residency to live in Canada long time. You two are awesome; you want to do things and you get out and do them! No moss grows under your feet! You both have a great attitude toward life, and will fit in well no matter where you settle down.

When I was tent camping in Banf one year we set up beside a bit of a meadow and when we woke up in the morning a whole herd of Elk (maybe 40 plus animals) had spent the night about 20 yards from our campsite. Needless to say, it was a bit of a shock when I walked out of the tent in the morning. Canada rarely disappoints when it comes to wildlife.

We’re camping right now a little further down the shoreline at Port Burwell and I want to recommend that you have at least one extension cord for your electrical hookup. We needed another 50 feet of cord in addition to the trailer cord to reach the post here and we’ve been on sites that needed still more. 100 feet total from trailer to post is not an unreasonable amount of cord to have to cover all contingencies.
I live in downtown Toronto, we have BIG raccoons! I've even seen a fox strolling down my street. Wait until August when Ontario corn becomes available, you'll see farm stalls when you drive in the country so it's super fresh. Trim the silk but leave husk on, soak in a bucket of water for an hour and then bbq in the husk on the grill. If you can find it, try all yellow corn, it's got more flavour than peaches & cream (which was bred for sweetness).

Just thought I would point out for anyone from England. That while Selkirk park has its own beach. That Selkirk, Port Dover, Port Rowan, Long Point , St. Thomas and all the way up past Windsor even. Are on the very same Lake. Lake Erie.
Now typically if your swimming in Lake Erie. The first few feet of water. Will have stones underneath it. Then after that it’s sand.
Clearness of water varies. Depending on how agitated the lake gets. I’ve worked all day in Tobacco when I was younger. Gone swimming in lake for 15 minutes and been tobacco free.
Which doesn’t mean anything to anyone not familiar with the fact that you get tobacco tar all over you from handling the plant that can’t be removed with regular soap.
Just a little experiment if you will. Next time you do a booking around Port Dover, Ask if they have any openings the secound week in Sept 2024. Or the secound week in June 2025.
Although I knew what it would look like, I was still amazed when I caught my first sight of a Great Lake, Lake Superior. What makes it strange though is that the Lakes have more wave action than the ocean we have around here!
@@brentwoodbay There was a local Historian regarding the Great Lakes.
He wrote a book called “ The Lake Erie Quadrangle”. Or something like that. About all the ships that sank in Lake Erie.
@@tomheinrichs7058 Yes, and I have actually snorkeled over a few of the wrecks near Tobermory. I am reminded of this classic! Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot Also near there You can snorkel over the edge of Niagara Falls, well sort of! The top of the Escarpment that Niagara Falls 'falls' over, is at Lake level near Tobermory , and just off shore , in the crystal clear water you can snorkel over the edge. I found it kind of scary!

Yes, those were fire flies, it’s prime season for them now. It’s nice that they have water hook-ups there, most of the Provincial Parks we’ve stayed at don’t have them. And yes, private campgrounds tend to have more amenities but usually the sites are a lot smaller and closer together. Some Conservation areas are also quite nice.
I just looked up conservation parks didn't think to look at them!
We used to have racoons come to the back of our house every night because of our bird feeders. They will run away, just don`t corner them in without an escape route. Cheers from Vancouver.

Louise, loved the video…..Nothing compares to Cadbury’s, But if you buy Hershey’s in Canada it should taste different to the American Hershey’s. Canada had to change their recipe to meet Canadian standards. The American one only has 10% chocolate in it, and actually has to be called a “candy” bar n9t “chocolate bar. The Canadian one has 30% chocolate. Also the American one contains butyric acid (an emulsifier found naturally in Parmesan cheese and vomit)…yes I did say vomit. Many people are able to get the vomit aftertaste from a lot of American chocolate.
I haven't watched it all yet, but you should twist your safety chains to make then a little shorter so they don't drag on the ground. Dont fill the trailer with water if you know there's a hook up where you're going, or just put a few gallons in for emergencies! Wait for the hot water tank to fill before switching the element on. We switch our water heater on as soon as we set up camp, and we plugged in.and we leave it the whole we are there. I'm assuming your watr heater is 2 way, propane and 110V ? If you said you had really high water pressure, do you know if your rig has a built in water pressure reducer? Water pressure at some campgrounds can be really high and it can burst your lines. If it doesn't , you can get one from Can Tire taht you add to the end of your water hose.
Loved this, I wondered how to stop the chains dragging on the floor it was so loud so thankyou! ... I was thinking net time we will leave the hot water on the whole time saves waiting for it to become hot.
Oooo regarding the pressure I will have to ask Jake about this
@@LouiseWareArmstrong The chains just aren't noisy, they 'll wear right down in no time. They still have to have some slack in them so you can turn OK. Twist just enough to get them off the ground,
With the fridge , we always have the trailer plugged in and switch the fridge on 24 hrs before we left. It would still be cold when we arrived after just a few hours. On longer trips, to California or Mexico, we had to leave it on when we travel . If your rig has a three way fridge, you can run it on 12v, BUT you have to remember to switch it off when you arrive as it will drain your battery in no time. If on propane, you have to remember to switch it off BEFORE you get to a gas station!
@@LouiseWareArmstrong One more point on the fridge, when your trip is over, empty the fridge , except for an open box of bicarb, but then make sure that you make sure you leave the doors of the fridge and the freezer OPEN! Don't close the doors on a fridge that is off! You'll get mould in there!
