Used to listen to this 10 years ago when I was starting in my final year in school, exactly 10 years later I became a teacher there. Life can be weird. Great song, great band, thanks for the memories.
I remember getting this album in my Christmas mail when we were stationed on Haifa St. in downtown Baghdad in 2004. I was 19. I wrote "Get of of this place while we still have time" on the inside of my boonie cap. That cap sits on display in my library.

You know, I had the feeling of wanting to get "out of here", out of my small hometown at 17. Now I'm 30, live in a big city, and miss that feeling. The struggle of wanting out, of being with others who "want out", is better than ever getting "out". I miss that.
Jimmy Eat World has always been there giving songs that speak to us at different stages of our lives. I was 17 when this was released. It helped work out what’s important at that time. Now I’m 35 and they have just released Place Your Debts. A song perfect for those about to hit middle age. Urging to live in the present and not to do things you’ll end up regretting.
2005 i was 20 and had one of the best years of my life. This and so many other bands put out so much great music that year to create a great soundtrack.
Its 09/2021, I'm still listening to this song. I remember discovering it when I was in high school like 16 years ago. I wanted to get out of high school so bad and grow up. Now I'm an adult, paying bills sucks. I miss the care free days of just hanging out with friends and no real responsibility.
I'm here after hearing this song and realizing that i had literally forgotten Jimmy eat World existed for about 12 years. As I listened, I remebered how they serenaded some of the greatest times of my teenage years and early adulthood. Then I realized how I never could have appreciated the lyrics then but how I certainly do now. Get out while you can, kids; get out while you have the youthful energy, curiosity and courage to take risks, before you become scared to lose what little you've managed to secure for yourself. Hometowns really can be a deadly trap.
You're supposed to learn from your parents mistakes, not repeat them. They're supposed to teach you what they learned making them. You just have to listen.
That's that entitled attitude that causes so many failures. You learn from their mistakes, you're also suppose to make mistakes, but not on purpose you're saying it like, "my parents smoked so I will too" it's a horrible way of thinking... The sheep way.
+Karyn Basher So having sex getting pregnant is something you have to learn from experience ? As well as drug addiction , any addiction ? You rather experience those hardships than listen to the advice of those older who know the pain and struggle . You rather throw the dice that hard on your fate, your future ? That's not thinking smart. If that's true many more cruel things in the world would still be happening if the world hadn't learned from the past and their mistakes. You learn by listening and observing. Not by doing things that are stupid and you know will ruin you. I agree somethings are better left as experiences, but taking the advice of those older for things that are dangerous, deadly and can ruin your future is always the smart choice.
I remember feeling like this in high school. I thought those days were so hard. And in some ways they were. But fast forward to now...almost 15 years later, I'd love to go back to those carefree days. It might not have felt carefree back then, but hindsight is 20/20. Being an adult seems so much better than being a teenager or kid because adults have freedom to make their own choices. But with that freedom comes great responsibility, and with that responsibility comes a heavy weight. I find myself often thinking back on my younger days and missing how simple it was. Although I do have to say that I agree with the kid who said that school is like a prison. I hated it, and don't agree with the system in the least. Kids deserve the ability to pursue their passions while also getting an education. Education is not a one size fits all, and when they treat it like that, it's suffocating.
I wasn't one of the main kids, but I was in the video and knew many of them. From what I know the majority are doing well for themselves, leading good lives. However, one, a friend, who had a lot of potential and talent, unfortunately had his life cut short. Watching this video stirs a lot of feeling... happiness, sadness, nostalgia
I've been out of high school for over 12 years. I don't miss it at all. Being young and able to hang out with friends more easily? Sure, I miss that. Middle and high school was a horrible grind that destroyed a lot of my enthusiasm for life.

Great tune by one of the best American alternative rock bands. IMO, I'd never want to be an adolescent again. I was dirt poor and very emotional. As I get older I keep seeing horizons that I never saw previously, which makes me want to run to them. Teenage drama and bullshit doesn't matter after you graduate college and have a real life.
Man when I was 14, 15, 16 all I wanted to do was grow up as fast as I could and get the fuck out of there but now I'm 30 and I'd give anything to go back. You won't realise it until years later but those are some of the best times. Cherish it all, good and bad. The friendships, the frustrations and the heartbreak. Because you can never go back.
I went to high school there when they did this video. It’s awesome to have a music video remind you of people you thought you once knew. Totally had a crush on Lillie or Lilly (in the video), I don’t even remember anymore.
Jimmy Eat World fans love the fact that they are in the coolest club in music. They would loathe it if the rest of the world got wise to the best band ever.
School is the best time you will ever have, childhood is a beautiful thing. I'm just 17 but i realized just a lil too late that you should take advantage of being clueless of the world. The most beautiful view on life is through the eyes of a child. Be kind, show respect, and live your life with the most fun.
How am I finally just discovering this masterpiece? And how the hell does this only have 2M views? Honestly this song should have been a big as a song Like Green Day's "Time of your Life". This is going on my list of top underrated songs of the past 25 years.
I honestly can't tell what type of rock I'm listening to anymore. All I know is I like it so I listen to it. I don't care what anyone else labels it. To me it's just good music that means something.
My friend Jewel Woodall had just met in 2007 our senior year of highschool and she and I would listen to this song, eat doughnuts and smoke cigarettes in her car everyday. She just died in a car crash this past June....Every time I hear this song it makes me think of her. RIP Jewel. I love you.

Why didn't I understand this song when I was in high school? Sure would have save feeling like no one understood what I was going through and my desperation to get the hell out of my town and my school and how alone I felt. Man this song, this album, no this band means everything to me . I first heard this song when I was 14 no I'm 20 and getting the word futures tattooed, even if I didn't understand what the album and the song meant then, it will always remind me about all my dreams and hopes and everything good that I got out of that album. I LOVE this band with everything.
Takes me back - I recognize some of those kids from high school, though they were a couple grades ahead of me. But I was boring and didn't have my angsty existential crisis until college.
I was 16 when this song first came out. At the time it was just another catchy JEW song I added to my iPod but I knew there was an underlying message I’d understand more when I got older. Being 32 now this song hits so much different. I reflect on the simpler times and wonder where they all went. First car, first GF, first heartbreak, graduating high school, graduating college, the choices I’ve made, the friends I’ve lost, the people I’ve loved, the right & wrong turns I took to end up where I am now. I know when you’re young everyone tells you ya grow up fast but damn... I didn’t think it’d be THIS fast
I literally lived blocks away from where this was filmed at the time. I was in college. I hope these kids outgrew their problems. It’s easier when you’re older. I wish I could have been in the video. I used to jog through the park in the video and I rented videos from the Video Station regularly. ❤️
If there is anything to take away from the song and the comments, it's that people wanted to figure out what was the right thing to do at that point in time. 10+ years later (now), either some of us still haven't figured it out or found out they did not follow what they truly wanted to do. It's never too late. Do something so you're not left with "what-if". If you mess up along the way, I guarantee that everything will be okay. Time heals so be brave and bold.
Agreed. Some people don’t understand depression. It’s real and it happens. The world is scary for young people. Just know that people are listening and people are supportive.
Saw them in concert a couple months ago and oh my god his voice is just as amazing live! And I almost lost my shit when they started playing this song 💕🤘🏻
I am from Chandler, Arizona, no more than 30 miles from where Jim and the band are from. I have never met them personally, but they are local legends. We love this band SO much in Arizona.
I remember this video first coming out when I was in 8th grade and the kids looked so old and mature to me. I wonder what they all ended up doing with their lives?
I was the same age as these kids when the video came out. I always listen to this song to keep in touch with the perspective I had when I was a teenager. I think it's good to reflect on that occasionally, to try and keep yourself humble mostly.
I am here again after so many years. I was on the xbox in the sunny days playing cod with my friends. We had big dreams. Now look at us. mid twenty and I feel like I've lost many years to absolutely nothing Long live this generation. We will all bloom someday. I still have hope.
It brings me back looking at these older videos. Especially one seeing people who are my age (as they were back then). Maybe we are fortunate to have the ability to look back on our pasts so much. The generations before us didn't have these opportunities.

They are not close to the top 20 both Forbes and Rolling Stone magazine... Their music is not pleasing to most rockers.

When the dance is through it's me and you

Count on that for sure

the first person they show has a successful art museum curator career and is now in law school. so...she's doing okay for herself.
👍
I bet they’d cringe
This came out my senior year .. fun times
Love this song, the guitar is amazing.
Such a beautiful man with an amazing voice love this band always have and always will.
love his voice in this
School is the best time you will ever have, childhood is a beautiful thing. I'm just 17 but i realized just a lil too late that you should take advantage of being clueless of the world. The most beautiful view on life is through the eyes of a child. Be kind, show respect, and live your life with the most fun.
I just heard this song a second ago and it instantly resonated. I'm 18 right now.
Holy crap I remember seeing this video when it was released…. All those kids are now almost 40…. Yet to me the song has never aged lol
How am I finally just discovering this masterpiece? And how the hell does this only have 2M views? Honestly this song should have been a big as a song Like Green Day's "Time of your Life". This is going on my list of top underrated songs of the past 25 years.
So underrated!! This song is so bomb!!
I love this song
I honestly can't tell what type of rock I'm listening to anymore. All I know is I like it so I listen to it. I don't care what anyone else labels it. To me it's just good music that means something.
My friend Jewel Woodall had just met in 2007 our senior year of highschool and she and I would listen to this song, eat doughnuts and smoke cigarettes in her car everyday. She just died in a car crash this past June....Every time I hear this song it makes me think of her. RIP Jewel. I love you.
this song hits me right in the feels every time i hear it.
It shocks me that this song has such low views, it’s an absolute belter
I remember when it played on Fuse back in the day. It is pretty surprising that it has such low views.
Hey cast! What happened with your life? Did you make your dreams come true?

We all want to know how your life turned out. It’s been 18 years and you’re 35. Please comment and share for this amazing opportunity of a social experiment.
Everyone like this.. so it pushes it up.
I grew up & this song still means a lot.
That was deep good inspirational words I heard some of these songs from Tony hawk underground 2 memories and mistakes
I saw JEW Friday night (7/21/23) in San Diego. Awesome show. Love this song.
I didn’t think it’d be THIS fast
what we'd all give to go back and live it again and again!
I literally lived blocks away from where this was filmed at the time. I was in college. I hope these kids outgrew their problems. It’s easier when you’re older. I wish I could have been in the video. I used to jog through the park in the video and I rented videos from the Video Station regularly. ❤️
I'm remembering when I was young, really I loved this song.
This song really relates to me. I'm a normal person and have normal, everyday life things. I feel like they get me.
“I’m excited to not be an adolescent anymore” I want to know how this girl feels now
I graduated back in May. I'm really pushing tears back right now...
Man, I was in high school during this time. lol Actually some of the best years of my life. Music was great too.
lol I was in like 6th grade! I think the same thing all the time! I remember this song, but I wish I was old enough to appreciate it :/
"All I can say". Love the harmony and instrumental break there.
wow.....the comment section is depressing af
If there is anything to take away from the song and the comments, it's that people wanted to figure out what was the right thing to do at that point in time. 10+ years later (now), either some of us still haven't figured it out or found out they did not follow what they truly wanted to do.
It's never too late. Do something so you're not left with "what-if". If you mess up along the way, I guarantee that everything will be okay. Time heals so be brave and bold.
wotrack05 appreciate the reply. completely agree
Lol
Agreed. Some people don’t understand depression. It’s real and it happens. The world is scary for young people. Just know that people are listening and people are supportive.
ive been saying this since day 1
Listening to this version with the students talking about their goals and plans really makes me wonder where they are now...
Saw them in concert a couple months ago and oh my god his voice is just as amazing live! And I almost lost my shit when they started playing this song 💕🤘🏻
I love this song. Came across it again the other day... all kinds of nostalgia! Such simple lyrics make such a true story!

I am from Chandler, Arizona, no more than 30 miles from where Jim and the band are from. I have never met them personally, but they are local legends. We love this band SO much in Arizona.
"I'm excited to not be an adolescent anymore" lol she'll be taking that statement back in a few years from when she said that.
Memories 😢
I was 10 when I heard this song first, it was in the year 2006. I miss those days and ...people don't make good music like this nowadays.
we must give such a big credit to the people who works behind making these videos, amazing production, lights, photos
I remember this video first coming out when I was in 8th grade and the kids looked so old and mature to me. I wonder what they all ended up doing with their lives?
How the fuck does this song only have 1 million views? GG music.
I've known this band forever, but i only fell in love with it when i started watching one tree hill a few weeks ago. This song got me hooked.
Any one tree hill fans out there?
no
@@MrJ0mmy lmfao
Absolutely not.
me!!
I was the same age as these kids when the video came out. I always listen to this song to keep in touch with the perspective I had when I was a teenager. I think it's good to reflect on that occasionally, to try and keep yourself humble mostly.
Deserves more views. Especially since ive watched it at least a dozen times ;)
I am here again after so many years. I was on the xbox in the sunny days playing cod with my friends. We had big dreams. Now look at us. mid twenty and I feel like I've lost many years to absolutely nothing
Long live this generation. We will all bloom someday. I still have hope.
I love Jim’s hair like this, when it was longer. This is my favorite song off of ‘Futures’. \m/
I honestly prefer his hair now...more mature
It brings me back looking at these older videos. Especially one seeing people who are my age (as they were back then). Maybe we are fortunate to have the ability to look back on our pasts so much. The generations before us didn't have these opportunities.
One Tree Hill
This song is still my favourite song of all time
