"Let me tell you something, I haven't even begun to peak. And when I do peak, you'll know. Because I'm gonna peak so hard that everybody in Philadelphia's gonna feel it." - Dennis Reynolds
Aint that the truth..40 now, remember hearing this in my mid 20s. Can't say I've done bad for myself, could have done better, but I certainly am not where I thought I would be at this age
1:43 - As someone who is approaching his 40's and is self-conscious about getting older and missing the good 'ol days, these lyrics hit me hard and give me great comfort: "And I'll you something else That you ain't died enough to know There's still some living left when your prime comes and goes"
Jim is a beyond humble person and deserves so much more recognition then he gets. One of my biggest influences for music. I cried when he commented on fender ja90 that i tagged him in.
All I'm saying is...I met these guys at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on Jim's B-Day. And i remember telling him i've wanted to shake the hand of the man that plays those songs and shortly after this song was released. Not saying i had anything to do with the chorus but...i'd like to think so. I love them til infinity
Lost my only child, Brian. He was 37. Depression to addiction.... Thanks Bubba for keeping me up on the latest for 20 yrs. Still remember dropping you off at bandcamp in Beaumont and surprising you with a fresh copy of Collective Soul's first release. Father leads son, then son leads father. The last band you led me to before you left was The National.... still listen.
As a life long metal head I'd make fun of everything on the radio while we worked construction but when this song cane on the radio when it first came out It changed me, I could feel the HEART of this song, it was actually getting me emotional . THIS is great song writing . I'm also from N.J. so it hits even harder. Let's enjoy it again, shall we ?
I also love this album! Also pretty big into heavy stuff. What I found interesting is that the guy who co-produced this album, John Fields, also produced basically all of the Disney rock form the late 2000s, when singers such as Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers all were sporting this energetic teenie pop rock sound. He also produced the first two albums by Andrew W.K. I unironically really like the second album by Demi Lovato, called Here we go again. Super energetic, great pop composing, also super fun to drum along to :D
Even though "Bleed American" was the first song by them I ever heard and loved, this is still my favorite track of theirs. Everything about it is perfect.
Agreed. It could have easily brought them back into the mainstream with all its marketable pop hits (that is, if ignorant music critics would have given it the time of day).

Kristopher Medlin Because Nirvana is fucking raw. Don't get me wrong, I like both but JEW is like having a sugar coated mohawk while Nirvana is stabbing you in the back
DarkAngelEU idk if i'd use the term raw for Nirvana. Mediocre? Yes. Raw? Not so much. If you want a 90s band that's raw you go with Placebo. They are insanely better than Nirvana. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are so overly rated its not funny. Not saying that they suck mind you (they're meh). But they're not as good as people make them out to be. As far as 90s bands go they are in the middle (hehe JEW joke) at best.
The first time I heard this song was the day after my dad died. For some reason it gave me so much hope and peace. I remember listening to it every day for maybe 2 or 3 months. I’ll always love this song.
My favorite line: "There's still some livin' left when your prime comes and goes." And its true! Hell most of your life is spent living past your prime haha.
@@thekirajustice That was a very different era in music though. When Bleed American was released, rock and pop-punk dominated the charts. By the time Futures & then Chase This Light were released, not so much.

"I have one last wish and its from the heart. Just let me down, just let me down eeeeeasy..." - Fuck, that part kills me every time. Still on repeat 2024.
Still number 1 on my playlist.
This band is ridiculously underrated. Such a special talent.
Amen
Still true!
this band is really good
One of the best ever-with all seriousness
they are not underrated to anyone who was living when they came out. me an friends must have bought and stole bleed america 5 times over

A favorite of mine, too. Sadly, I just hit 61.
Yeah that lyric is a kick in the nuts to anyone from 40-60 lol
Jimmy Eat World is so underrated
no way ,taylor likes them

Dammit! That's all I hear now, great lol
Hahahahahahaha
chris mcdonald scrolling down and that part of the song played and i read your comment expecting them to say ham XD
thats funny
hahahaha
This band is so wholesome, I can't help but love them.
This song's chorus is the only time "New Jersey" and "success" go together.
thats the point of the line in my opinion, he wants to be something rare, something you dont see often, a new jersey success story.
Im from Jersey and I love this band, but I didn’t realize they were from here
@@jasmineg9738 they're not lol they're from Tempe, Arizona. Jim isn't from jersey either he's from Mesa LOL
@@jasmineg9738 the song is written from the point of view of a loser from New Jersey who thinks he’s going to be a rockstar but who fails.
Sinatra, Springsteen, and Bon Jovi are from Jersey
One of the best bands to come along in a long, long time. Bleed American, Chase this Light, and Futures should be in everyone's collection.
Hands down one of the best bands to come out of the 90s! You can keep your Nirvana, I'll take my Jimmy Eat World.
***** No
***** Why the hell would you want Nirvana anyway? Especially when you could have Jimmy Eat World.
Kristopher Medlin Because Nirvana is fucking raw. Don't get me wrong, I like both but JEW is like having a sugar coated mohawk while Nirvana is stabbing you in the back

"Rock on young savior, don't give up your hopes." Damn, I love Jimmy Eat World.
*don't get up your hopes.
Changes it a bit.
The best band to grace the planet honestly. And the best live band I’ve ever seen 🤘
Wish music like this was on the mainstream FM radio :(
It was, like 12 years ago 👀
Heard it, it was premiere on KROQ and rarely played again.
Who listens to radio nowadays?
@@Saberwaisen I do.
thats exactly what "your new aesthetic" is about on their album clarity. you should listen to it even if this message is 4 years late
Not only does this song absolutely kick ass, it's always really nice to see love for the Neon Boneyard 💗
The first time I heard this song was the day after my dad died. For some reason it gave me so much hope and peace. I remember listening to it every day for maybe 2 or 3 months. I’ll always love this song.
This is the most underrated band off all times
Damn, it's almost ten years and I still feel like this song just came out like 5 years ago. I feel old.
2021 here, feel the same way!
These guys are SOOOOO Uplifting .. . .

Tom Dean yeah I used to be really into runescape I got about 6 or 7 99's

What a fucking tune.
Fav band. Always quality.
I forgot what a great band is Jimmy Eat World! Many years i didn´t hear them.
Carlos Macutela dude me too, heard it so much 10 years ago.. fucking epic
My favorite song by them

Holy crap I'm 30. I remember when this album came out in high school. Where has the time gone? 🥺🥺🥺
It’s like a brand new band for me! Obviously heard the hits but there’s so much stuff I’ve never heard! And it all sounds relevant today 👌🏻👌🏻
Love them so much..
So proud living on that era..
Loved it when it came on the radio on the way to Macy's as a kid playing pokemon 😂
Every word in this song speaks to me
The recording of this video made him very happy.
I like how much he's smiling.
Easily one of the most underrated songs.
In the Coma the words persisted.
Thank you.
I'm from Elizabeth, New Jersey and this song always hit home for me.
...except I'm not a New Jersey success story. Well, not yet at least. You heard it here first folks.
Loved growing up to this band in the early 2000s
I still grow up to this band.
What a greatass song goddam
"I'll play My little part in something big." :)
Anybody else find themselves repeatedly clicking back to 2:43? That is pure chills

Hope Jimmy comes back to South Africa again, I missed the 1st concert, and would love to jam to Pain and Authority Song.
