All I'm saying is...I met these guys at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ on Jim's B-Day. And i remember telling him i've wanted to shake the hand of the man that plays those songs and shortly after this song was released. Not saying i had anything to do with the chorus but...i'd like to think so. I love them til infinity

Still remember dropping you off at bandcamp in Beaumont and surprising you with a fresh copy of Collective Soul's first release. Father leads son, then son leads father. As a life long metal head I'd make fun of everything on the radio while we worked construction but when this song cane on the radio when it first came out It changed me, I could feel the HEART of this song, it was actually getting me emotional . THIS is great song writing . I'm also from N.J. so it hits even harder.

I also love this album! Also pretty big into heavy stuff. What I found interesting is that the guy who co-produced this album, John Fields, also produced basically all of the Disney rock form the late 2000s, when singers such as Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers all were sporting this energetic teenie pop rock sound. He also produced the first two albums by Andrew W.K.
I unironically really like the second album by Demi Lovato, called Here we go again. Super energetic, great pop composing, also super fun to drum along to :D

    (Steady)
Before this world starts up again
    It's me and night
    We wait for the sun
The kids and drunks head back inside
Well there's lots of smart ideas in books I've never read
When the girls come talk to me I wish to hell I had
(Get Up, Get Up) Turn on ignition
(Get Up, Get Up) Fire up the system
Play my little part in something big
I'll accept with poise, with grace
When they draw my name from the lottery
And they'll say 'All the salt in the world couldn't melt that ice'
I'm the one who gets away
    I'm a New Jersey success-story
And they'll say 'Lord, give me a chance to shake that hand'
    (They'll say)
Back when I was younger I was someone you'd've liked
Got an old guitar I'd had for years I'd let you buy
And I'll tell you something else that you ain't dying enough to know
There's still some living left when your prime comes and goes
(Get Up, Get Up) Dance on the ceiling
(Get Up, Get Up) Boy, you must be dreamin'
Rock on young saviour, don't give up your hopes
I'll accept with poise, with grace
When they draw my name from the lottery
And they'll say 'All the salt in the world couldn't melt that ice'
I'm the one who gets away
    I'm a New Jersey success-story
And they'll say 'Lord, give me a chance to shake that hand'
    I have one last wish
    And it's from my heart
    Just let me down
    Just let me down
    (easy)
I'll accept with poise, with grace
When they draw my name from the lottery
And they'll say 'All the salt in the world couldn't melt that ice'
I'm the one who gets away
    I'm a New Jersey success-story
And they'll say 'Lord, give me a chance to shake his hand'

    • @kristophermedlin3390
      @kristophermedlin3390 10 лет назад +16

DarkAngelEU idk if i'd use the term raw for Nirvana. Mediocre? Yes. Raw? Not so much. If you want a 90s band that's raw you go with Placebo. They are insanely better than Nirvana. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are so overly rated its not funny. Not saying that they suck mind you (they're meh). But they're not as good as people make them out to be. As far as 90s bands go they are in the middle (hehe JEW joke) at best.

    Back when I was younger
I was some one you would have liked.
Got an old guitar I'd had for years
    I'd let you buy.
That entire verse makes me think of Arizona legend Doug Hopkins smashing his guitars in Tempe literally a couple years before Jimmy Eat World got things rolling in the same place.

You guys were the soundtrack of my youth...the first song I blasted in my very first car was The Authority Song. I wish this pandemic hadn't happened so I could have seen you guys in concert finally but either way...you are the absolute best and I'll always love your sound.

"I have one last wish and its from the heart. Just let me down, just let me down eeeeeasy..." - Fuck, that part kills me every time. As does the "New Jersey success story" line - that has meaning to me as well. Oh fuck it, who am I kidding..the whole song kills me. Brilliant. Upbeat and catchy as hell while still being so bittersweet. What rock music should be all about. Love this band. Arguably their best song, though I admit I'm also a sucker for "The Middle", love me some big hooks, haha.
