Donna.... all the little extras you teach make such a difference in the finished project! Ironing the binding, the extra ironing within he piecing truly make professional smooth just lovely finish! Thank you again!!!! Im catxhing up on ALL your tutorials.... your biggest fan!
I cannot thank you enough for your incredible videos, l have been quilting for 6 months, unable to take lessons due to covid....l feel so blessed to be able to learn and be inspired by the knowledge l gain from watching these excellent techniques and patterns. Donna has become a welcomed friend in my sewing room .... so thank you everyone for these available learning tools ..Thank You from British Columbia CANADA
I love your videos, excellent teaching without all the extra noise (unnecessary words). I have been quilting for 25 plus years and I have learned so much since finding your channel a month ago.
Hi Donna, When I’m sewing, I like to watch your videos because they keep motivating me and I learn a technique I didn’t know. I am really glad I watched this video, I learned a few techniques ☺️☺️❤️ with binding. I am so grateful to have your videos to refer too. Thank you so much for sharing. As always, take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
That binding turned out beautiful! Yes, I liked your color choice but was very impressed how you figured out what lengths to cut the strips so that there wouldn't be any seams at the corners. Also, I appreciate how you draw sketches and write down measurements on the paper; it reinforces and clarifies instructions for the viewers. And that tip where you showed with the pin diagonally where to continue stitching again after turning the corner was also good. Very nicely done, Donna :-)
BEST teacher on RUclips!! I am always amazed at your vids, I learn so many new things. I am amazed that you cut the binding at the exact size, and it fit. Everyone always does the measure then add 10, or 12 or even 20 inches, which wastes a lot of effort sewing strips and fabric. Thank you for all your videos!! Love your kits, will be ordering more soon.
I always add a bit extra myself - it is just that this piece was really small and with the pieces binding I needed to be pretty precise. I have measured all around a whole big quilt, made extra long binding and made a mark at exactly that measurement on the binding before stitching it on. To my surprise the binding did fit exactly! I am still not brave enough to cut it just that length yet!
Finally someone who actually showed how to finish the edges step by step, Iv been searching n searching n frustrated and your the first one I finally came across that teaches the correct method, half of the tutorials skip and don't show how they did the edges, and corners, all you see is tada and them holding up their quilt and I'm left with uh how did you get around the corners and what did you do?! For a beginner like me it gets frustrating when when I watch a whole video to not see how it's ALL finished step by step! Thank you! I've saved your vidieo! ❤️
Thanks Donna. That is very effective. I will try that. My first order arrived in Canada today and I am excited to sew these beautiful quilts. Thank you to whoever cut the pieces for me.please keep making the videos.
I love this tutorial and the pieced binding. I will try this method. I want to tell you that I love your tutorials and the projects you share. Thank you so much!
I have learned so much from all of your videos. It is so easy to follow your directions and examples. Thank you and Matt for sharing your knowledge! I would so love to visit your store and my dream would be to shadow you for a week! Again, thank you so much for your videos and sharing your knowledge!
HEHE.. I AM NOT TRYING TO BE WEIRD & OR FUNNY!! BUT, WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS JUST MAKES MY DAY!! . I AM 55 YEARS OLD & WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS IS MY ENTERTAINMENT. LOL... YOU CAN SEE SINCE I BECAME DISABLED I HAVE NO OTHER LIFE. .. BUT YOU & YOUR HUSBAND IS MY IDOLS.. . LOL..
Beautiful...loved how you did the binding and I certainly will be trying it out in the near future...thank so much for sharing your vast knowledge and great tips 😘
Thank You So MUCH for your EXCELLENT Tutorial Videos. I am learning so much from you. I think I am going to try this for a Wall Hanging. I have made a wall hanging. I want to try FMQ and this would be a good starting Quilt. Thanks again for your Very informative Videos. I am new to quilting and trying to get my nerve up to an actual Quilt other than small projects, this is going to be my JUMP into a "REAL" quilt..
Really like the way you stitch the binding, in the ditch, for a machine sewn binding. Just found your website and u-tube channel and they are both great!! Thanks for the lessons and inspiration!!
WOW, this looks absolutely beautiful Donna, so clever ! Thank you so much for your great lessons, you make a lot of people happy WORLD WIDE :0) Hope you had a great Fathers Day Matt. Ali Tasmania.
Donna, I just love your videos and quilts. It is so nice to have excellent instructions and for free too! I watch all of your videos and have really learned a lot. One question - do you really always cut your binding to the exact length? It would make me nervous not to have excess for insurance.
No, I always cut extra. It is only on a small item like this Carpenter's Wheel with pieced binding that I cut to length. Even with this project I made the binding a bit longer - just in case!
hermosisimo gracias estoy practicando la clase del bies pero no me queda tan lindo como el tuyo ademas tu fabrica se ve muy organizada algún dia la visitare Felicidades
Thanks again for taking the time to plan, write, film and edit another great tutorial Donna. My sewing machine is on its last legs and I'd like to have my own industrial-strength sewing machine. Yours looks like a real workhorse. What brand is it, and would you recommend it? I'd search for it on eBay or other sewing machine sales centre, but would like to know the name & model #. Thanks so much! ~Diana from Toronto, Canada
Absolutely fabulous tutorial. You help make quilting fun instead of difficult. Thanks soooo much from Canada. I have a question. I have been able to follow along and do well with the binding but I have a recurring issue and its probably a simple fix that I am missing. Some items I make vary a lot in depth. Sometime I use felts for potholders and then I might use fleece fabric for items that I wish to have a little body... so in using a fat quarter seam allowance and strip width of 2.5" I have too much material when I fold the binding over to the front for sewing. Is there a formula I can use to determine the strip widths for each project? Thanks again and thanks for having such high quality, affordable fabric!
What I do is to try out a small piece using fabric scraps. That way I can (usually!) cut the correct width binding for the particular different weight fabrics.
Yes, I always cut my binding 2 1/2 inches wide and use a bit more than 1/4 inch seam allowance with batiks since they fold over very flat. The 1/4 inch works well with all other print fabrics.
Great question! You will have to do some calculating and sketching to figure it out and each one would be different. I'll do some thinking and film a new video or make a downloadable cheat sheet soon.
I want to do a 2 color on a table runner. Not sure how to do the math. L is 49.5x2=99 + W is 17x2=34. Not sure how to figure the length of 2 color strips to put together for the binding. HELP!

Oh Matt is so sweet. Happy father’s day Matt. Keep up the great cutting and sets you make.

This is the most useful binding tutorial I have watched. thank you!
The pin trick in the corner has helped me so much! My binding is so smooth and effortless now. 💜💜

love all your tutorials, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, was the varigated thread poly or cotton?
Bellissimo sei molto brava , io ho imparato tanto grazie
Merci pour les esplications. Très jolie
very nice
Is there a reason you don’t do on the diagonal for binding seams?
Donna looked all over this tutorial for the free download and did not find it. Thanks.
We offer free download for some of our own designs, but this one is a pattern we sell that is designed by Cozy Quilt Designs called Evening Star.
Thks you....
I just love you. Your awesome!! Will you be doing anymore dolls?
And another thing... if i measured my binding a dozen times it would either come up short or be a foot too long😆. Just saying you are amazing!
Absolutely fabulous tutorial. You help make quilting fun instead of difficult. Thanks soooo much from Canada. I have a question. I gave your advice a whirl... and voila! Many thanks for this and for all your tutorials...
What is the best presser foot to use when sewing on binding?
I just use my regular foot, but perhaps some viewers can recommend a different one. If anyone has a suggestion please leave a comment here.
Was this a 2.5 inch binding with a 1/4 inch seam sewn on the quilt? Thanks! Love your tutorials!
Yeah. It was a 2.5 inch strips. And yep she did a 1/4 inch straight edge stitch all the way around the wall hanging.
Yes, I always cut my binding 2 1/2 inches wide and use a bit more than 1/4 inch seam allowance with batiks since they fold over very flat. The 1/4 inch works well with all other print fabrics.
Since that is square, how do you measure a rectangle quilt.
Great question! You will have to do some calculating and sketching to figure it out and each one would be different. I'll do some thinking and film a new video or make a downloadable cheat sheet soon.
Thank you. I appreciate your reply and will be looking forward to your future video. You are very talented.
If you want a wider binding is that ok?
Grazie!!!!!
I love that little quiltdo you have the pattern for that? Please let me know thank you
We have a free pattern here: jordanfabrics.com/pages/carpenters-wheel-pattern
Where can I fund the instruction.?
I always attach a hanging sleeve when adding the binding then just sew the bottom of sleeve by hand.
Great idea!
Looking for placemats

At 12.45 Donna says “45 inches” when she should have said “45 degrees”. ….Just sayin……😜
