After recieveing the Yamaha SLG200N I then got hold of an SLG200S. Let's see how they fare?? Get yours in these outlets: www.gear4music.... www.pmtonline....
I've watched 3 reviews so far, and nobody ever shows this silent guitar being played silently. Everyone is showing it being played like a regular acoustic "mic'd up so to speak). Isn't the main feature of this thing that it can be played SILENTLY during practice??
Not exactly the same, the nylon has a wider neck at the nut 52mm (2inch) and a routed headstock with perpendicular tuning pegs at a 45° angle identical to a real classical nylon string guitar. Whereas the other has a 43mm nut with a headstock more like an electric guitar, flat solid with sideways protruding pegs. Not a lot different to look at but it’s a big difference if you’re a classical guitarist.
@@pmcm-ih1ep i am no expert, but if you're looking for one of these you probably know the basic already. also i love my videos because not everybody else will lol.
Version Personal - I hope I can find some bright strings. Did't quite understand what the electronics are for on the bottom. Adding stuff to jam with or adding an effect boards.
Well it’s an acoustic so if it’s acoustic rock yeah it’s fine. But i will say that even though it doesn’t have the usual acoustic hollow body. It still reacts like a full acoustic. So if you put it through a distortion effect, it will sound exactly as you would expect a full acoustic to sound. Muffled, honky, full of feedback at high levels. All the usual. So in short… No… Not really. I hope that answers your question. And thanks for keeping the conversation alive.
Many thanks. So glad you stopped by and I hope you found the information you were looking for, and was entertained. I watched this for the first time in a while yesterday and my production quality is much better now I must say...
Couple of quick questions: I do use golpe and I'm curious if I can get a sound off the little strip in the pick-guard position? Also, can you get a sound off of slapping the strings at the bridge? Thanks. Looking for a travel and beach guitar.
Very Interested in these guitars. I have always wanted to learn how to play. Just not sure which to pick, Nylon or Steel, Standard or Classical. I'm More of a 70s Classic Rock Keyboard player / Beatles Fan. Would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks !!!
Do you need to do any adjustments to the guitar I know in the past when I have brought a new guitar the dealer would do any adjustments needed but when they come boxed unopened would they have done this in the factory. Sorry if this is a daft question as a sort of a beginner I would not attempt to do this myself.
Good question. I found that all the ones I have demoed in stores have been set up quite nicely. But my standards are a little out there, so I have been doing my own setups now for years. But saying that everyone is different. If you are wanting low action (strong height) then these seem to be mostly medium. I think they went for the middle ground to appeal to the majority (out of the box). I hope this has helped at least a little? Many thanks for the question and for stopping by.
Hi there, I have a question for you, which one in your opinion is LESS resonant (i.e. more silent unplugged), the steel version or the nylon version? Thanks.
Hi there, IMO the nylon is the less resonant and the steel seems to vibrate much stronger and still has that edge as apposed to the nylon, which has a flabby feel leaving the resonant sound decaying a lot sooner. Saying that of course, once amplified the nylon has the edge in isn’t superior sound. Again IMVHO. Thanks for the question and stopping by and adding to the discussion.
jdj62464 you can plug your headphone straight into the guitar as it has a built in 3.5 jack, where you get great stereo sound from the built in effects.
beamflies that’s a great question. I know this sounds like a cop out but it’s almost in between. But that being said I would put it 65/35 in favour that it’s slightly more acoustic than electric. The neck width is more acoustic thus giving a more acoustic playability. The action (at least on mine) is quite low. This gives a slightly faster neck. I guess on a guitar to guitar basis your mileage may vary, although I wouldn’t expect them to be too different out of the factory. I have not changed the setup from factory either. Great question and thanks for asking and I hope this helps 👍🏻
Hi I am beginner- never played guitar- i have to get Silent one - i like more how the N sound - can u tell me as beginner which version i should get please?
Hiya, thanks for checking out the channel and welcome to the wonderful would of guitar! The tutor in me suggests the Classical version, but I would say that as a beginner you will get more satisfaction from the steel version.
@@alexmart2019 cool, and no problem. Any questions always feel free to ask and I can always answer in a video. More content soon as I know i haven't done much lately.
If Mounting nylon strings will it sound same as in the nylon version(are the tuners pegs the only difference )? Will the tuners of steel, version handle nylon string well? If it is the case. the steel version isnt more versatile?. Thanks
@The Retro Rescue thanks for taking the time, to explain that. seems no one have your expertise on that, may deserve a video!. (so nylon it is for me). thanks again and have a nice day
Could you mention what type of amp you were using for recording these demos. They both sound really nice. I have the nylon version and play with the small Yamaha THR10 amp, but don't get quite as nice of tone. Just curious. Thx
Jeff Wittenfeld hi there, good point. I should have mentioned that eh? I was plugger directly into a Behringer x32 digital mixer with the Cymatic Audio uTtack x32 audio interface with OBS recording on my PC. No extra effects but those from the guitar.
Is the "pick guard" where the body would normally be? I'm curious if when playing Flamenco you could perform a golpe (percussive tap) on that part as you would on a normal guitar body. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.
petey604 hiya, yes that makes perfect sense and the answer is yes. If you tap it it is solid enough that you would get the effect through the pickups. If you get one please record a vid for me to see as I do not flamenco 👍🏻
Persian Bright I can’t imagine why that is? I have had both of mine for over a year each and I am always using them. So I cant see that it is a general and wide spread issue. Sorry to hear that you’re not just going to get a replacement because these guitars are amazing.
I would suspect the headphones in the first instance. Faults with headphones can occur at the jackplug, perhaps with a loose or badly soldered connection. Have this checked, but as a first step try another set of headphones.
use your ears Bro stop all that tab stuff. That can only get you so far. How do you approach learning a new song? Just asking because I will show you how to learn any song by ear.
Have you tried any of the stores on Denmark street, just off Tottenham Court Road. Their are many main Yamaha dealers there. I also know Gear4music are getting some more soon.
Ok now I was confused and even doubting myself so I just went a checked. Definitely 2 x AA. Certainly for maybe the UK models. Unless some have PP3 (9V). But looking at the specs online again I only see AA. It could be that other countries use PP3 or that some owners have changed out the battery compartment for longer use with a 9V but the electronics are certainly only requiring 3V using 2 AA in the UK.
I found the video which shows a 9 volt battery. The video was made in 2015 so things may have changed in 3 years. ruclips.net/video/x0qUzhLYyY4/видео.html If this link doesn't work it is by Cesar blues guitar. I also found the specs on the Yamaha site where they sell an AC adapter 9 volts.
Try one. I ditched a Godin for a Yamaha Silent. I had the action lowered a bit (by an expert) and got new strings and now it sounds and plays beautifully.
I can tell from your sudden change in vocal tone (for example 9:12) that you have massively tweaked with the audio tone levels post production to make the guitar sound better - thats a bit dishonest mate and really not helpful
thanks for this comparison. I'm still undecided but its nice to know more about the two from a sonic perspective
Kevin thanks, glad you enjoyed it. It’s hard to pick between them but if you have any other questions, just pop me a message

Ah, ok!! :) Thx!!
The main disadvantage of these guitars is the dark sound, the lack of clarity, especially with the nylon-string version.
This can be true but also said of most guitars. My recommendation is to always use new strings… failing turn up the hi’s

Austin , Thank you for the input. It willl make deciding much easier.
Interesting that the Steel version has 22 frets which is not normal for Acu Steel string and the Nylon version has only 19 frets. Also unorthodox.

what device(loudspeaker ) did you use by playing?
I am plugged into my BehringerX32 mixer and recording direct to OBS. But I use Mackie CR4s to monitor the audio.

jdj62464 you can plug your headphone straight into the guitar as it has a built in 3.5 jack, where you get great stereo sound from the built in effects.
Does the steel string version feel like an electric action/playability wise or an acoustic?
