    Sounds surprisingly good. In a band mix, I'll bet it works great. Or in a loud bar for that matter. Super cool viable instrument. Does it rival a good acoustic amplified? I don't think so. But it sounds convincing, credible and worthy and considering the cost? ...It's a steal! Great demo Aaron. I greatly appreciate your commentary and considerations.

    Thanks for the good review Aaron, I used your video to help me decide on my purchase of one of these.
    I gig about 30 shows/year in a 10-piece show band running my SLG200S first into a Line 6 wireless, to an active DI for the FOH, folded back to my floor wedge in front of me & finally to an Acoustasonic Jr for a stage side fill (amp is also shared with a Godin electric mandolin). I can run it stupid loud both indoors and out and get absolutely zero feedback. For a rock band needing a solid acoustic in the mix it's better than any other a/e guitar I've ever tried. It sounds so good live at full stage volume that the other guitarist in my band shouted "That thing sounds f*&^%ng AWESOME" at me the first time I brought it out onstage (at an outdoor festival). LOL
    In addition, I also do acoustic duo stuff once in a while and it has enough subtlety once you get it set up right that it'll make your Mama cry for joy. LOL

    Aaron, good revue, as always. Just a couple questions:
    How would this guitar do plugged in directly into a TC Helicon Play Acoustic? Are they a good match?
    Also, how hard is it to get used to it compared to a "regular" acoustic?

    • @aaronshortmusic
      @aaronshortmusic  5 лет назад

      Hi! It would work great as you could turn the body rez off on the TC and use the IR on the Yamaha. It will never feedback as it has no body but you are right that it will take some getting used to. It would just take a few weeks and I am sure you would find it very comfortable. They are amazing value!

    Aaron, as you recently received this from Sweetwater (year end holidays 2018), have you found the removable upper bout's retaining thumbscrews get loose? If I may chime in, I will say that the screw does loosen when used with a strap, but I've never found it to be a HUGE issue. In other words, it has never completely separated and it's easy enough to screw back in real quick.

    Aaron,
    Thank you very much for the fantastic demo and review. I’m thinking about getting this guitar and your video is extremely helpful. One question for you: have you had any issues with low volume while just using headphones straight from the guitar? I played the guitar at a local Sam Ash and could barely hear the guitar while using Apple earbuds. I then tried over ear Grado headphones and it was much better, but still a lower volume than I would like with the volume knob cranked. Granted it was a very loud music store and maybe the batteries in the guitar were low. My intention with the guitar is to use headphones into the guitar without any amps or computer connections.
    Regards,
    Neil

      It took me a while to enjoy headphones. I currently use in ear monitors and I have spent a few months with them. I love them now. If you look up my Xvive U4 review they are linked in the description. The silent guitar is using older tech. It can sound good, I usually cut all of the bass and boost some treble. I quite like the sound that I get in headphones more than through a PA. I haven’t managed to get a good sound through a PA yet. I know that the TomeDexter pedal has IR’s that you can download to improve the sound but that pedal costs as much as a silent guitar. You may find a small external mixer would help you to shape the sound as well...

      Ok..... Problem solved at last Aaron.
      After banging my head against a brick wall for a week I decided to replace the Piezo pick up.with a Shadow SH099 undersaddle pick up and WOW..... this guitar is singing and playing studio class.
      Anyone having the problem should try this. Remove the screws on the back, there is a + and - connection for the pick up - no plug. Connect the wires as they came out, and Bobs your Uncle.
      You will need a small screwdriver for this operation.
      Hope this helps anyone with the problem.

    I recently picked up a SLG200S, and I like it a lot, but (1) even with the effects dialed all the way left, it still sounds like Reverb is on and not totally off. (2) as someone else mentioned, the EBG string volume is not as high as I feel it should be, and the bass side tend to over power. I've not checked the saddle yet to see if it and pickup are flat. Anyone else experience either of these? Otherwise, this is a super cool guitar, and shines when using headphones.

      The mic image may make it feel like there is reverb on. Do you feel like there is still reverb even when the mic image is all the way off?

    • @shaneroberts9466
      @shaneroberts9466 4 года назад

      @@aaronshortmusic Yes exactly, I feel reverb is always on and not totally off. I've been trying to determine if this is normal to the modeling or if my guitar has issue. As best I can tell its the modeling because the effects otherwise adjust precisely as designed. Also, I have ordered a bone saddle to see if that fixes the EBG strings being less volume.

      @@aaronshortmusic I installed a bone saddle, and night and day difference over the stock Urea nut which is molded. The bone definitely helped with the EBG volume issue now being very balanced across all strings, and overall the bass is less boomy and balanced across all strings. I do recommend this mod. The always on Reverb still there but the saddle swap is unrelated to any remediation of that annoyance which is slight and bearable.

    You keep comparing it to an "expensive" guitar... but those Yamaha "Silent" guitars are expensive.

    • @aaronshortmusic
      @aaronshortmusic  5 лет назад

      It’s all relative. They retail around $500. That’s a pretty good price for an electric-acoustic I think...

      $650 is cheap compared to a $2800 nice Martin or Gibson, which is cheap compared to a to a $7000 nice Bourgeois or Collings. You can get a very nice Yamaha solid for that $650 that has great natural tone unplugged. The only advantage of the SRT is if you really need a guitar that breaks down into a relatively small package.

      @@davidsharples4788 It’s possible. It really depends on the device you are using with it. I have not had an issue but the only way to really know is to try it. The other option is to use an extension cable to get more distance from the guitar itself.
