    Great 👍. I guess the recessed voltage screw is deliberate so you can't easily make an accidental adjustment. I mean you wouldn't want to accidentally pump 84v into a 36v battery 😂

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 Год назад +2

      Yes, I was thinking the same thing, although for 99.9% of batteries it wont be a problem because the BMS will protect it. But if I had several batteries of different voltages without BMS that all use same charge connector, and I also add in some math to charge only to 90%, eventually a brain fart will occur.
      There is a misconception on what a “Smart Charger” is. Normal it means the charger is in direct communication with the BMS to know how mich current to send to charge, then balance, then turn off. But to the Chinese it means “it has LED display”.
      I would be very surprised if this charger is somehow monitoring voltage increase and will stop charging before reaching the voltage setting, which would be the bare minimum a smart charger would need to do.

    *Get some Noctua computer Case fans. Open the case and see the level on the stock fans, look them up and it should tell you something like the MM thickness and size. Then order a PWM fan and splice it in to the existing connector on the circuit board which should also plug in just connecting the Positive/Neg leads and leaving the third, disconnected. The computer board within the charger generally will regulate the temp and hence the speed of the fans automatically. . The Noctua move about 20% less air so they will run longer yet they are very near silent. I use them in my Off grid solar throughout. All my charge controllers, inverters and chargers get these fans.*

    This is a power supply not a smart charger. It won’t too up your batteries slowly and allow them to balance so make sure you’re bms has active balance most don’t. This things actually quite dangerous. Grin makes the only variable voltage smart charger I know of

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 Год назад +1

      I think the average viewer won’t really comprehend what you are saying, but i was going to ask if this charger has a transition from CC to CV like all 2s or higher lithium packs need, with or without BMS.
      I had a very cheap cordless pressure washer that uses 5s1p 18650 pack and came with a 21v 1a charger. The problem was it had no transition, it was 1a all the way until 21v, so of course due to voltage surge at 1/3c charge rate, coupled with different IR or each cell, the BMS closed the charge port and then the battery voltage settles down to 19-20v, and of course this put the battery that much closer to LVP when in use, so it would run 3-5 minutes before cutting off. Lol
      If it were my battery without any BMS, I would perfectly top balance it and then drain it and charge it at 15a and then as soon as the highest brick reaches about 4.18v, I would unplug the charger, let it settle, and record that voltage (83.2v for example). Then that would be the highest peak voltage I would use for that specific pack at 15a. For the other packs, similar testing at appropriate current.

    • @E-bikeguy
      @E-bikeguy  Год назад +1

      No, it's not a power supply, and it's variable just like my grinn, and it can charge lipo, and lead acid batteries

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 Год назад +2

      @@E-bikeguy , I think his wording is confusing. But a simple test will show what it does.
      If you set it to 83.7v and 15a, and the current stays at 15a all the way until the battery is at 83.7v, its acting like a power supply not a Grin or legit charger.
      But if you set it to 83.7 and 15a, and it charges to about 82v and then the current tapers down to 0 at the same time at the voltage tapers up to 83.7, then its a legitimate charger not a power supply.
      Of its a power supply it just needs to be used differently but its still useful. We know the Grin is legit because there are videos showing the taper. Lol

    • @E-bikeguy
      @E-bikeguy  Год назад +1

      Actually when I come to almost to 83.7 volts the amps will go down all the way to trickle when when finish

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 Год назад +2

      @@E-bikeguy , ok, once you have the BMS you can show the difference between the Grin behavior and the new charger set at same voltage and amps as the Grin to see what happens to cell differential once the pack is nearly fully charged.
      Your batteries with BMS like the Troxus and Scorpion would probably not charge properly with the new charger set to the battery’s peak voltage, but there would be no easy way to show whats going on other than it stopping charging early when the port closes.
      Now that I have an ANT in my 48v16ah battery I can see when I start from perfect balance (4.1.05v in all 13 bricks) that as soon as i plug in a 2a charger, the cell difference between highest and lowest climbs to 0.013v from 0.000v.
      I can’t do more testing yet like fully charge to show the taper because Im still waiting on a slow boat from China to bring me the parts I need to get the motor running so I can drain the battery after charging it.
      The BMS will also tell me the actual voltage sag inside the battery at 15a load, not the voltage drop caused by all the AWG16 battery wire and 3 sets of cheap connectors the current must get through to get to the controller.

      @@E-bikeguy my understanding is cells in parallel get charged together as a group? so you would divide your charging amps by your parallel groups to know the charge rate of each cell. That charger has some nice features if you can set desired peak charge voltage to the nearest 0.1v and the peak charge rate to the nearest 0.1a.
    Does it have a 110v/220v switch (or autovolt) or is it locked into 110v if you get the US plug? I have 220v but the US plug here in the Philippines. That charger can charge at 20a here.
    Having the various charging options makes it easier to be gentle on the battery (charge to 80% at less than 0.25c) when you have time, while being able to fast charge a typical 20ah battery at 1c in less than an hour if you needed it.

    Does that fardriver controller have pedal assist?

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 Год назад +2

      No. The closest it can emulate PAS is if you set gear 1 to give 10a maximum (or suitable assist) to the motor, then you give full throttle and the motor gives a set amount of thrust and you add pedal power to go faster. So it’s more like Motor Assist than Pedal Assist.
      In theory you could also use gear two as a higher PAS level. But gear 3 would typically be set at the maximum performance you want from your motor/controller/battery.
      But there is no way to make the Fardriver give the motor more power based on your pedals.
